Velvet Goldmine
Hey, so I just spent two hours watching a movie called the Velvet Goldmine. (Wow, I have a problem. I type in the word Velvet and Underground immediately comes up...)
All I've got to say guys is I've officially surpassed the line of classic rock obsession.
I literally only watched this movie for its soundtrack and the fact it was based in the lives of certain glam rockers!
I.E.:
David Bowie/Marc Bolan
Lou Reed/Iggy Pop
Bryan Ferry/Brian Eno (this reference is questionable, but considering both of them had music present in the movie, and some of their story and aesthetic was present.)
Yeah, so all the characters were pretty much composites of these people and the people around them. This, this is why I watched the movie.
Did the movie make any sense? Barely.
Did it have any sort of clear ending? Not really.
Did it seem to hold much accuracy to the lives of any of the aforementioned people? Hardly.
Was this a movie I would let my parents know I watched? Not in a million years.
Did I enjoy it?
Hell yeah! The soundtrack included the likes of T. Rex, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed (David didn't let the people have any of his music.) Yes, I think I might have liked this movie just for the sake of the music and how it expertly captured the essence of glam rock. Granted, it really doesn't make a lot of sense at first glance, but when you look at the movie as a whole it's a lot cooler.
So, I'd recommend this if you dig glam rock.
Just don't watch this while your parents are around, there is a lot of sex and some nudity. Aside from that, though, it's good!
Ever seen this movie, any interest in seeing it?
Tell me in the comments!
