My Glam Rock Subjects
(Note, this next post will be completely laden with silliness.)
So, if you all weren't aware, I'm the Glam Rock Queen.
I wanted to take a moment to appreciate my subjects, the good, the quirky, and the exiled.
First up, the exiled:
This is Gary Glitter. I briefly mentioned him in Glamorous Times that he'd get thrown out a window if he showed up at the party (that idea is still in the back of my mind, btw). So yeah, I absolutely can't stand him. (I apologize if you just so happen to like his music)
Second up, the quirky (not bad, just fun and quirky)
1. Slade
Here's the reason why they are quirky:
Clearly I was jamming to this, and now I can't get it out of my head... (Thanks Wicked_Annabella for making me think of this song.)
2. New York Dolls
These guys kind of embodied the idea of rockers being androgynous and breaking all the gender boundaries. That's all I really know about them TBH...
3. The Sweet
Best known for songs like: Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the Run (aka my stripper song, wait, just ignore that....)
4. Kiss
People need to give Kiss more credit. They weren't the best band ever, but they didn't suck either. Plus, they probably introduced a whole generation of small kids to rock and roll.
The Good (this is more of a ranking, here)
Special Mentions: Mott the Hoople
Again, I don't know too much about Mott the Hoople other then the fact that they did a version of All the Young Dudes. From all I've heard though they were a really important band.
Suzi Quatro
All I know about her is she is the only true female glam rocker. I'd like to her some more about her music, though.
7. Iggy Pop
Glam Iggy, very nice. I really like Iggy, and that is that.
6. Alice Cooper
Alice had so many awesome tunes, and he's generally a great rocker. So there you go.
5. Lou Reed
From this point on the glam rockers are more art rockers. So yeah, awesome sauce. I love Lou and the Velvet Underground (granted, VU ended before Lou's glam days.)
4. T. Rex
T. Rex was the first glam band. I absolutely love T. Rex, and they were so essential to this brief period in music.
3. Roxy Music
The idea in terms of the glam of Roxy Music was to be artsy and glamorous and really not give a crap what anyone else thought. They were unabashedly experimental and artistic, and man were the results amazing.
2. David Bowie
When you take a moment to appreciate all of the amazingness that glam produced, David was certainly at the forefront of it always. David was a true pioneer in art and music.
1. Queen
First off, Queen was glam, don't even fight me. They were definitely the best thing glam rock ever produced, by the opinion of most people.
So yeah, I hope you dug this list of appreciating glam!
