How I Got into Classic Rock

Gather around guys, it's story time!

Let me make one thing clear, I like classic rock, I always have liked classic rock, and I always will. I listen to almost nothing but classic rock. Once there was a time, however, when I was not completely obsessed with it. However, for me, it always has been something I identified myself by. For me, the type of music I listened to, by maybe the time I was six or seven, had already become a large part of who I was. It took me a while to realize not every kid liked it, much to my dismay. While I loved acts like the Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, and Chicago, everyone else liked the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, Justin Beiber, or whatever. I have nothing against these people, it was just very lonely to not like them. Remember, this is a part of who I am, and to feel like no one my age shared this was isolating. Especially when I started getting made fun of for it. Again, this is all happened before I turned ten or eleven.

I never really got the music I liked, or why I liked it in the first place. It was just something I knew I liked. One day though, my dad played the album The Who Sell Out. I was in love. He was constantly playing Who live videos, and I guess one day it just clicked, and I started down the rabbit hole of obsession. I had to know everything about the Who, listen to all the music, everything. One day during Christmas break of Freshman year, I listened to the albums Sell Out, Sergeant Pepper, Revolver, and Tommy, one right after another. I must've spent four hours doing nothing but listen to music.

At this point, I had tickets to see the Who in October, I was constantly listening to their albums, and I didn't care if I even was getting made fun of anymore; it didn't matter, I was in love. Around this time I discovered the classic rock fandom was a thing, and I no longer felt alone. Over the next few months, I was listening to every album I could find on YouTube. I was spreading my wings into other bands. Within these next few months, I got a Spotify account, and I explored the catalogs of the Stones, Pink Floyd, and Queen. That summer, I saw the Rolling Stones, and I got my own iPod.

After I had the iPod, I was done for. I spent hours a day listening to music. I got my dad's old iPod soon after with more storage, and at this point I starting exploring the likes of Genesis. When I came to school the next year, I was just exploring more and more. I found the Kinks and the Zombies, and I rediscovered Chicago. Which brings up to today, where I am now going into my Junior year, and I am still exploring, and I regret nothing!

I hope this is an interesting read, and maybe it is a little relatable. Please comment and vote!
