The Real Chapter 1

"Ok, now people will just skip over the first chapter one!"

"What, would it make you happy if I said Chapter One again? They'd be confused, Bree!"

"Uuuughhhh. Fine keep it."

"Can I start now?"

"Yeah."

All of the hoopla started when Bree arrived in the glade.

"Hoopla?"

"Yeah, hoopla."

As the doors opened and light poured into the box, I was just as confused as anyone.

The first thing she said made me realize she wouldn't have any problems with Minho. "Well, are you going to help me out or not?" She had said.

"I think that's a famous line."

"No, Bree, no one remembers you for that."

"Oh? And what do they remember you for?"

"Oh you know, our whole love story, the soldier thing, the usual."

"Hah, okay, accent guy."

When I first saw her face, I knew. Well, I didn't exactly know what, but I knew I knew her.

"That makes no sense, Newt."

"Yes it does, stop interrupting."

"But-"

"Shush!"

It didn't completely connect in my mind until I had that controlled dream.

"The one where they made you throw me in the box?"

"Exactly."

My brain couldn't have pieced it together until that moment in time, and that's when I also remembered things like my family- mom, dad, sister.

"Which is in the scorch?"

"We haven't gotten that far yet."

Anyway, I knew I had to do what was right. I didn't want to let Bree die.. I couldn't let her die, but I would rather have all my friends fates known and sealed and send Bree away where she might live, rather than killing all of my friends just to save Bree.

"And I completely understand and agree with you. I didn't know you had to sacrifice all that at the time."

But for some reason, I knew I still had to protect Bree. I couldn't just let her go on her own, like the big girl she thinks she is.

"Thinks she is?"

"Bree, just let me keep going."

So, as it turns out, I've had that instinct even before she got into the glade. All those years up until that point in time, I knew I was missing something, but my brain literally could not put it together, until I saw her.

"And had that dream."

"Correct."

For now, let's explain the jobs.

"Yours too?"

".......Let's just focus on you for right now. You can write about me later."

When Bree came up in the box, you could just tell by looking at her the creators had trained her for running. She was fit. She wasn't like some of the others, who's muscles weren't so.. I don't know, defined.

"Aw, you think I have defined muscles?"

"Well, you used to.."

"Okay, you try going out and surviving!"

"I did."

"Oh, right."

Yet, I knew I couldn't let her be a runner, because that protective instinct was still there, and it frustrates the hell out of me because I couldn't figure out why.

"So you put in a good word with Clint and I became a Med-Jack, we all know the story."

"And then people started hurting themselves to see you, so we made you a runner."

Actually, I almost convinced Alby and the council to make you a cook, but considering the one dish you tried to make ended up failing miserably, the only other job you wouldn't accidentally kill someone in was a runner.

"I didn't think I was that clumsy.."

"No, Bree, you were. You still are. That explains the accident."

"Wait do they know about that yet?"

"No, so don't mention it."

"But you just did!"

"I AM NOT PERFECT!"

"You know what? Let's just pick this up later."

"Agreed."
