Just when I thought I knew you
you go and prove me wrong

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The doctors had taken Natasha to a room so they could start working on her and finding out what exactly was going on. The Queen was refusing to leave the area outside of Natasha's room. She wanted her daughter.
King Joesph was angry at a lot of people once doctor Cho revealed the cause for the princess was poisoning. So everyone who was ever handed Natasha food, water, or anything at all was getting an ear full from the king. In fact, he called every single staff member to the grand hall to be spoken to.
"DO ANY OF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE?" The king's voice was loud and strick making some of the younger newer servants flinch. "We were on the brink of forming an alliance to save our kingdom and now because someone in here didn't like that  we may all perish in hell." He said. "The king doesn't trust us no more. Not for the safety of both his family and for his kingdom. The deal is very well done because of someone in this room." He was angry and with Hydra getting closer they were all on the edge. "If the princess does not survive this incident no one in this room will be alive, stories of the fallen kingdom will flood the world because of one person's mistakes." The king stopped speaking and sir Samuel came up to speak.
"Attention, the king has requested all your rooms be searched. If anything is found the looks incriminating they will be sent to the dungeon." He said and James came up to.
"And just so no one has a chance to hide anything else we will keep you in here until the inspection is done." The room erupted in complaints. Everyone was upset forgetting they were in the presence of the king.
"ENOUGH!" Joseph shouted. "Start with the search, I want every corner of this castle searched and I want people counted if anyone has left this castle I want to know about it." The boys nodded their heads and with a few knights following them they went to search the rooms starting from the top of the castle and making their way down to the armory.
Steven
Steven was confined in the room with his sister and mother. Plus lady Maria and Lady Sharon. He had not yet spoken to her but from the look on her face, he knew that Sharon had done something that she shouldn't have done.
Steven was having trouble believing she would do something so cruel and illegal. An act of hurting or even thinking of hurting a royal would result in sudden death. So knowing that Sharon could possibly be responsible for the state Natasha was in was concerning. In a way, he felt bad for her, if it was true.
"This little room can only suit us for so long," Maria said to Clinton as he walked into the room everyone stood to see if he had any news on Natasha. "Please tell me you know something." Clint, however, shook his head.
"The doctors have settled the cause to a poisoning, but this poisoning was made from the petals of a poppy flower." He said and only Maria groaned understanding what it meant.
"What does that mean?" Queen Sarah asked raising an eyebrow.
"It means, your highness, that whoever poisoned Natasha knew she was allergic to this flower. It also means Natasha's life is in high danger." the room fell silent at the news. It wasn't until that moment did they realize how serious the event actually was.
"Will she be okay?" Wanda asked innocently.
"They don't know, whatever it was has been in her system for a while. The princess has a strong immune system so it has been fighting it off. Which explains he sickness over the last few days but I guess today her body just was done." Clint said sadly. Natasha was like his sister and he wanted to kill whoever hurt her.
"This wasn't an accident. Someone poisoned her." Maria said just as angry as Clint was.
"No, it wasn't. King Joesph has put on a search all of the staff's room looking for any foul play." Clint mention. Steven watched as Sharon's demeanor changed as if she remembered something. Steve watched as she stood and tried to walk to the door.
Luckily as she reached for the door Clint held it shut.
"Sorry Milady, the king doesn't want anyone in the halls as the search is going on," Clint said. Steven saw that Sharon bit her bottom lip and gave Steven a helpless look. Steven knew that she did something at this point and it was still running through his mind. "Your Highness." Clint said looking at the queen, Wanda, and Steven. "the king has requested you come and follow the guards to the grand hall." Clint said.
"Okay." The queen nodded and thanked Clint, and walked out with Wanda following the guards. Steven watched Sharon as he left the room. She was nervous, that much was obvious. The question was, would he do anything if what he thought she had done was actually her doing?
The three royals quickly walked down the grand hall surrounded by at least ten heavily armed guards. This was now being regarded as a threat to the kingdom and until they completely knew who had risked the princess's life then everyone was in danger.
"This is nonsense!" They heard the yells of King Joesph and almost flinched. In return, they heard the loud voice of King Joesph.
"My Daughter is unconscious because of someone in YOUR KINGDOM!" He yelled. When it came to his daughter, King Nicholas, would not back down. King Joesph, however, was being careful with his words because even if the kingdom of Romanavia needed the marriage to raise in power, Rogerteria needed their protection.
"And I am telling you it was not our intention to hurt her and we will find whoever had the nerve to hurt the princess." King Joesph said.
"And then what? You people will see that our kingdom is bringing you trouble. More incidents like this are likely to occur." The three royals walked into the room and the kings were fuming with anger.
"Father! What is going on?" Steven asked. King Nicolas excused himself not bothering to have the same argument again. He would rather spend time with his wife who was in need of his comfort.
"He wants to call off the marriage," Joesph said taking a seat on his thrown. He was tired of all of this unpredictable event occurring.
"He can't be serious? My king, we need this alliance." The queen said. Horror was filling her head and every other royal in the room.
"I am afraid he is. But alas I do not blame him." Joseph said surprising everyone in the room. "If my daughter was harmed in the kingdom in which she is betrothed to, I too would not want to unite the kingdoms."
"Father, what are we going to do?" Wanda asked.
"I do not know. For once this is out of my control. But you must be joyed of that Steven." His father said flatly. Steven looked at his father who had a look that meant he knew something. He motioned for the guards to once again escort the queen and Princess out. Once they were gone Steven spoke up.
"I don't understand father." Steven lied.
"Don't act dumb with my son." He said sternly. Steven was lying to see what his father actually knew. He didn't want to say what didn't need to be said. "I know of the girl. Lady Sharon." He said. Steve was motionless as his father laughed. "Did you really think I didn't know? I let you have your fun Steven but it's all over now. Your little game with her is done?"
"Game? What are you talking about? Father, I love her!" Steven said, anger forming in his bones when he called his love for Sharon a game.
"You don't know what love is. But it's over. Trust me, son, I am doing this to protect you." The king said.
"Protect me? What exactly are you protecting me from!" He yelled in anger.
"I know you poisoned the princess." The king said in a deep unamused voice. Steven himself was confused now. He would never do something like that. Especially when he and Natasha started to form such a deep bond.
"Father I don't-"
"ENOUGH WITH THE LIES!" His father yelled done with Steven's games. "James!" He yelled and from the side door, James came walking into the room. He held his head low as he walked, Steven saw the disappointment in his best friend's gloomy eyes. "Please James tell the princess what my guards found in his room, the room that was gifted to him when Princess Margret passes."
"In Room thirteen, the room where Princess Margaret took to paint and prepare speeches for our kingdom and hers.  vile was found. A vile of poppy laced poison. It matches the poison used on the princess." He said. "According to records, you are the only with a key to princess Margrete's room." He said holding his head low.
"Father no.." He said but stopped himself not wanting to get Sharon in trouble.
"Unless you didn't do it. And you can tell me who did." The king said. Steven looked into the eyes of his father and he knew that Joesph knew something. More then what he was letting on. Steven was weighing his options.
He was in love with this woman. Or at least he thought he was in love with her. Lately, with the addition of her cruel behavior, Steve saw himself falling further and further away from Sharon. But the feeling where still there.
"I..." Steven said looking for the words.
"Enough. Steven, you have until the end of the day to tell me what you know. And I suggest you do it faster. Before everything we worked for in this castle falls to pieces."  He said. Steven gave his father one last look before leaving the grand hall.
As he walked he thought over all the possible effects of telling the truth. A part of him knew his father knew something, but what that was? He wasn't sure. The pain question in his mind was whether or not he wanted to completely give up hope of being with Sharon. But if he doesn't, then Natasha will be seriously hurt.
He knows that Sharon did it, or helped in some way of doing it. Which also means she would know how to help, and time was running out for the princess. Doctors were struggling to find a cure. If they knew how the poison was produced, curing it would be easier. But then Sharon would be locked away. Did she deserve to be out? Steven thought it was all out of a little jealousy, which could make you do bad things. It could all be solved with a talking to right?
He found himself outside of Natasha's room. There was a guard outside her room and he heard the shouts of doctors. Everyone was trying to save the princess life, that nothing else mattered.
But what really caught his eyes was the sight of the king and queen sitting beside their daughter's door. The queen had tears staining her checks while the king's eyes were stained red. Steven felt a pain in his heart, which only stung more when the door to Natasha's room opened so a nurse could search for more supplies. He got a short glimpse of the princess.
Her dress was torn she could breath easier and her hair fell off the bed. Nurses surrounded her with a cloth on her head. He couldn't have sworn that seeing her in that state made him sad. It really did and nothing mattered to him any more than making sure she would be okay.
So his feet took him back into the grand hall. Steven approached his father with confidence. Joseph turned to his son and raised an eyebrow. Steven was almost out of breath.
"Father.....I know who harmed the princess I know who must be punished." He said breathlessly.
"Oh yeah? Who son has harmed the safety of the princess?" He asked, although King Joesph already knew the answer he was just waiting for his son to give his first kingly address. Steven looked at his father and at that moment it all occurred to him. She never cared about him. He could care less if he died.
All she cared about was whether or not she would be queen. From her demands that Steven ignored princess, to even trying to kill his betrothed. All those 'I love you' were lies. Pathetic lies so she could take the rule of the kingdom. He fell into her trap, he believed in love but it was a lie. Love was a f*cking lie. And now he could care less if she rots in a cell, she is a horrible person who does horrible things for their own selfish reasons. And he would no longer stand for any of it.
He would no longer care if he is falling for the red-haired princess. He no longer cares if she is watching him as he danced with other women. He would no longer care if he traveled the world without her. Because she doesn't care about him, which should have been obvious from the start.
4 weeks ago
"Steven!" A voice whispered yelled at him as he walked into room thirteen. Steven was startled by the voice because no one ever went in there. Since the death of Princess Margret, the only person to be in the room was Steven. But he recognized the voice as Lady Sharon.
"Sharon? What are you... how did you get in here?" He asked suspiciously.
"Don't be an idiot Steven." She said ignoring his question. "The real question is what are you still doing in her? It's absolutely disgusting in here." She said. Steven frowned in disappointment.
"I must ask if you don't speak ill about this room Sharon, it means a lot to me." She laughed at him and mumbled the words pathetic which he had chosen to ignore.
"Well, I don't like you in here." She said firmly. " I think that you are wasting your time and it makes me like you aren't appreciating me." She said and Steven frowned further.
"I am confused. How do I being in this room make you feel....unappreciated?" He asked confused very much at this point.
"Steven you are spending time in your dead fiance's room. That is not something that I want to sleep at night knowing. You said you didn't have feelings for her." She complained. Her voice resembled much of a young child.
"You are being ridiculous. You know I love you but she was my friend, my best friend. I am sorry if I mourn." He said and what she said next made him appalled.
"You should be." She said. They stood there for a few moments in silence as Steven practically ignored her presence. he didn't speak in fear of saying something he indeed would regret. So he kept silent as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders kissing his neck. "Baby I am sorry, I just feel insecure when it comes to her." She said and Steven looked in his eyes. He would have sworn that day that she was telling the truth, that she really was sorry. "Come here." She said leading him to the bed, the one that once belongs to Margret.
"What are you doing?" He asked as she kissed his neck and cheek surrounding his lips.
"I am making it up to and I am making this our room." She said tracing his biceps. She placed her lips on his as Steven placed his hands on her waist. That used to be a wonderful memory with the woman he loved.
And now it made him sick to his core. It made him want to throw up just at the thought of it. He regretted every finger he ever laid on her. She was using him, that much was obvious. All the things she told him, even when she claimed 'it was out of jealousy' flooded his mind and anger grew within him.
He hated her.
He despised her.
She used him.
She made him fall in love with her knowing she would hurt him in the end.
She was the reason Natasha, a kind soul, was close to her deathbed as her parents prayed outside her room.
She was the reason for many things that Steven has yet to figure out. It would only get worse the further he looked into it. And he knew that he wouldn't stop until he was sure of everything she has done to him.
Everything that she has taken away from him would be uncovered and she would pay. She would no longer control him. This would be the start of a long path of revenge. He would be sure to make sure that Sharon gets exactly what she deserves.
"Steven, you are right about this," James said as he and Steven walked to the room Sharon was being held. Steven looked at his best friend.
"I know I am. And I am sorry for everything that happened due to her lies." Steven said as they climbed the stair leading to the second floor of the castle where the room was.
"No need to apologize. Love makes us do crazy things, even if don't know if we are truly in love or not." He said. Steven gave his best friend a nod in appreciation and they arrived at the door. The guards blocking the door stood away from the door so Steven could get into the room.
Quickly he walked in startling Lady Sharon. She stood up confused at all the guards surrounding her. She gave Steven a confused look but noticed the coldness that now flooded his eyes. She frowned.
"Your Highness, what is going on?" She asked referring to Steve respectfully in the presence of others. But Steven didn't answer James did.
"Lady Sharon of Rogerteria you are under arrest for the attempt of murder of Princess Natasha Romanavia. You are you to be sentenced with the choice of King Nicholas and King Joesph." James said as some guards took Sharon by her wrist. Sharon tried to struggle.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU HAVE THE WRONG PERSON!" She yelled as they dragged her down the hall. Steven watched as she struggled. The guards didn't even let Steven speak to Sharon. Which was probably for the best. Once she was out of his sights sadness once more filled him.
He doesn't know what it's like to be loved.
