Sonny waited outside while holding Rose, feeling the cold breeze. Her father needed to make a phone call before they headed towards the restaurant.

"Maybe I should buckle you in already", Sonny said to Rose, opening the door to put her in the car seat.

As she stood back up, she felt another presence behind her. Looking back, not only is her father walking towards the car but also Jungkook.

"Sorry I took long. Business call. Anyways, shall we get going?", her father smiled and was about to walk towards the drivers side until Sonny asked why Jungkook is there.

"He's coming along with us. Not on bodyguard duty. Just as a friend for today. Though I do say he's more like family", her father got in the car, turning on the engine.

Sonny rolled her eyes and sat in the back with Rose, slamming the door. Jungkook sat in front with her father, looking out the window to see the trees pass by. She would've enjoyed the night if Jungkook stayed in his room. Maybe he convinced her father to let him come. Either way she's not happy about it.

"Ah I forgot to mention. Jungkook, tomorrow I have an important meeting so I want you to keep an eye on Sonny and Rose. Maybe you can take them to the park or the movie theater. It'll be half the day", her father said.

"But dad, I don't need him to look after me. Nothing bad has happened. And Rose will be fine with me. I can take her to the park. And I'll take her somewhere to eat. Just don't leave me with him", Sonny pleaded but her father isn't gonna change his mind.

"He is gonna watch over you. You already know how I feel about you being alone. It's for your-"

"Safety. I know", Sonny sighed as she held Rose's hand.

During the drive, her father and Jungkook spoke about business matters, sports and Sonny's behavior which caught her by surprise. All Jungkook mentioned is how aggressive her attitude is but that he didn't mind. Rolling her eyes, she took out her phone and played Bejeweled.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant, parking on an empty spot. Sonny carried Rose, ignoring Jungkook who asked if she needed help.

They walked inside, the waiter leading them towards their reserved table. Jungkook brought a high chair for Rose, ignoring Sonny who told him she could do it and didn't need his help. She rolled her eyes and sat close to Rose.

Sonny's father looked at the menu and his eyes widened at how delicious the food looked. "I can't decide what to order. Everything looks so good", he said, earning a giggle from Rose.

Jungkook is holding his menu but side glancing at Sonny who didn't even skim through her menu. She gave Rose her little toy, smiling at her little sister.

"So how's school going? I bet you're getting amazing grades", her father smiled widely, slightly putting the menu down.

Sonny frowned a bit, remembering the scores she's been getting on exams. Not that great. But he doesn't need to know that. So she faked a smile and answered with one word.

"Good", she looked down at the menu, feeling the waiter coming back to the table.

"Ready to order?", the waiter asked.

"Yes. I'll get the lobster with the side of seasoned fries. And for the little one, popcorn shrimp will be fine", her father answered.

"I'll get the steak, medium rare, avocado slices, and and a few tortilla chips", Jungkook said, now looking over at Sonny.

"I'll just get popcorn shrimp too", she said.

"That's a small meal. Are you sure you don't want anything else?", her father asked.

"I'm not that hungry. I'll be fine", she said, smiling.

"I brought you lunch and you only took three bites. Sir, she needs to eat more than popcorn shrimp. I'm sure she hasn't eaten anything since the morning", Jungkook stated.

"Mind your own business. And you weren't there the entire time. I ate something. The only reason why I didn't eat the sandwich is because it had bacon. I hate bacon. So don't be talking when you don't even know-"

"Sonny, not here. And not in front of your sister", her father put his hand on top of hers so she would stop, mostly because there were other people looking.

After Sonny shifted away from Jungkook, sitting closer to Rose, the waiter asked about drinks. Jungkook got water, Sonny's father got beer, Rose got apple juice, and Sonny got water as well.

Like before, Jungkook and her father spoke about things that didn't interest Sonny. She ate quietly, sometimes picking at her food. She wished her mother was there because she's the only one who understood her.

"Don't you like your food? Does it not taste good? You can order something else", her father asked as he noticed her plate has hardly been touched.

"It's good. But I'm not that hungry. Whatever is leftover, I'll just take it home", she said.

They didn't last long as Rose began to cry. About 40 minutes and then they left. Sonny tried to be sneaky and walk off behind her father while carrying Rose, wanting to leave her food behind but when they were outside, Jungkook asked the waiter for a box so he can take Sonny's popcorn shrimp.

"Oh look at that, Jungkook got your food Sonny", her father said as she buckled Rose onto her car seat.

Jungkook handed her the white to-go box, ignoring her glare. She didn't want to take it. Instead, she wanted to throw the leftover food all over Jungkook. Her thoughts were interrupted by Jungkook shoving the box onto her lap. Before she could protest, Jungkook quickly turned around and entered the passenger side of the car. It's not like she can really tell him off with her father around.

When they returned home, the first thing Sonny's father did is take off his coat, place it on the coat rack and entered his office. He usually spends the whole night and day in there, that's if he's not out on business meetings. Rose is already asleep and Sonny is too tired. Even carrying her little sister, who's getting big every second, is putting a toll on her back.

"Let me carry her", Jungkook said, putting his arms out.

"No. I want to tuck her in", Sonny said, carefully walking up the steps.

As her foot touched the last step, her knee kind of buckled, Jungkook immediately going over to help her. She wanted to push his hand away but he stopped her.

"You're like this because you hardly ate anything. If you don't want your father to know, let me carry Rose to her room. You need to eat and rest", Jungkook said, holding out his arms to carry Rose.

Sonny sighed and carefully handed her to him, watching as her little sister wrapped her little arms around his neck, nuzzling her face on his shoulder.

"Get to bed", he ordered, glancing back.

She would've argued with him but she's too tired. So she headed towards her room, not even bothering to change into comfy clothes. Once her head touched the pillow, she fell asleep.

The next morning, Sonny woke up with a huge headache. It's around 11:30 but she didn't want to wake up. Forcing herself up on her feet, she rubbed her eyes and waddled towards the bathroom, turning the faucet to splash her face with water. Not a second later, Rose came in wearing a pretty pink dress and white shoes.

"Well look at you, you're ready for the park, aren't you?", Sonny smiled and kneeled down to kiss Rose on the cheek.

"Go on. I'm just gonna get ready and I'll meet you in your room, okay?", she motioned Rose out of her bathroom and turned on the shower.

When Sonny finished, she fixed her little purse and headed towards Rose's room. She's playing blocks with Jungkook.

"Don't tell me you're really going", Sonny said, watching as Jungkook grabbed Rose's small backpack and swung it over his shoulder.

"Yes. I'm going whether you like it or not", he said.

She let out a long sigh before holding Rose's hand.

"Careful Rose", Sonny called out to her little sister as she's jumping on the steps of the playground. Her giggles would get squeakier as her excitement grew.

Jungkook stood nearby, watching his surroundings. He thought a few people looked suspicious and took steps closer to Sonny when she's not looking. Then leaning forward against the back of the bench where Sonny is sitting.

She took out her homework from her bag and opened the chemistry textbook. She always hated chemistry because she doesn't get it at all.

"Need help?", a voice from her left side.

"What the hell do you know about it?", she scoffed, scooting away.

"Well to your surprise, I finished college...barely. Although I do need to pay off all the student loans which I don't think it'll be possible any time soon. Let me see", he tilted his head to see the page but Sony received a message from one of her co workers.

"Damn..I need to go to work. My coworker can't show up because there's been an accident and she has to go to the hospital. It's possible I won't get out early. I need to take Rose with the babysitter", she stood up and put her stuff away.

"Wait, I can stay and watch her. Besides, your job is in the other direction and you won't make it on time. I'll drop you off and I can come back with Rose", Jungkook said.

"No. I'm gonna walk. I need it anyways...Fine. You can watch her. I have to go", Sonny walked over to Rose and told her she's gonna see her later before kissing her on the cheek.

Reality can be very hard to understand, whether it's losing a loved one or realizing who someone is. For Sonny, she's clueless and doesn't know what's lying ahead in the near future. Very near future.

It's now after 7pm. Sonny is walking home and not too far. She noticed an unfamiliar car out front but didn't mind it as it's probably someone who's meeting with her father. Her face changed as the front door is slightly open, pushing it so she could be inside. Like always, she left her bag on the same chair she always leaves it on.

"Hello?", she called out.

She heard mumbling noises. Maybe it's coming from her father's office. She couldn't really tell because even before passing her father's office, she was pulled into the hallway closet, mouth being covered. Her thoughts going straight to death. Today's the day.

But then she recognizes the scent of pine cone and mint. It's Jungkook's cologne. She glanced over her shoulder and met eyes with him. He put a finger over his lips, meaning she has to be really quiet. She's confused.

Seconds later she heard a voice.

"What was that?", it's a man's voice, one she hasn't heard before.

"It's nothing. Get him over here."

There were three unfamiliar voices and one she knows by heart. She began to freak out but Jungkook held her tightly.

"I don't have what you're looking for", she can hear her father talking.

"You can lie all you want. I need the money", the man said.

Her father sounded like he was struggling, that's what she's thinking. The two men were holding her father's arms while the third man held him at gun point.

The third man poked around and spotted a family picture hanging on the wall. He scoffed mockingly and held it up.

"Or maybe we can give boss something else that's valuable to you. That baby is no use...but this older girl here can be useful in many ways. You say you don't have the money, then give us your daughter. Where is she? Hm?", the man asked.

"You're not going anywhere near her. If you even touch a single strand of hair on her, I'll kill you", her father warned the man.

Sonny could hear the gun, a noise, and then silence. She couldn't hear her father anymore. And then she heard the gun again.

"Idiot, don't kill him. Boss wants him alive", one of the men said.

"Take him to the car", the other man ordered.

She can hear dragging along the wooden floor. She really wanted to run out and see what they're doing to her father. Jungkook still had his hand over her mouth, causing her breathing to become uneven. Their footsteps faded as they headed towards the front door. But one of the men noticed Sonny's bag on the chair. He took out his gun and slowly walked forward again. Sonny and Jungkook could hear his footsteps getting closer. She had to close her eyes, tears coming down and landing on Jungkook's hand tattoos. She doesn't want to die.

"Hey! Let's go! We're wasting time!"

The man put away his gun and walked out, all of them getting in the car and driving off. Once it was safe, Jungkook let go of her and opened the closet door.

"What the hell was that?? Who were they?? Why did they take my dad?? They're not gonna kill him, are they?? And why didn't you do anything?! My dad said you're always prepared for things like this. You could've stopped them!", Sonny yelled and felt her chest tighten, tears not stopping.

She was about to walk out of the house but Jungkook grabbed her hand and pulled her in.

"There might be more of them. Stay inside. I'll explain everything once I figure out a plan", he said.

"Where's Rose?? Where is she??", she asked, worried about her as well.

"She's with the babysitter. I dropped her off there after receiving a message from your father. I knew there was something wrong so I did that. When I got here, you father was in his office. He was injured badly. The men were upstairs, probably going through his belongings. I really was gonna help him but he didn't want me to. He wanted me to hide. He knew I wasn't able to get all of them. I was hoping you'd come back much later", Jungkook said.

"So then you're useless. How are we gonna get him back?? They're gonna kill him", she scoffed and placed her hands on her head, panicking.

"They won't kill him. But as we just heard, they're gonna be looking for you if he doesn't give them the money that they want. We can't leave Rose with the babysitter so are there any other relatives that can take care of her in the meantime?", he asked.

"What are you talking about? I'm not leaving Rose with anyone. She's staying with me", Sonny told him.

"No she's not. The risk is too high. If those men get a hold of you, they'll kill her. I know you don't want that. You want her safe. So think of a relative that you trust and we'll take her there. I don't want to hear anymore of your nonsense. Your father put me in charge of you. I will do whatever it takes to get your father back and I don't care if you don't believe that. I'm gonna do it. Now go pack a bag because we can't stay here", Jungkook demanded Sonny to go to her room and pack her clothes into a bag and maybe other items that she may need because they won't be back for a while.

She gave him a nasty look before passing by him, going into her room before slamming the door. Jungkook sighed heavily and sat down, putting his fingers through his hair. He keeps replaying the scene in his head.

~Earlier~

Jungkook entered the house, gun in his hand as he carefully stepped inside. He heard footsteps and voices upstairs, and groaning in the office. He looked around the corner and spotted Sonny's father on the ground, holding his knee.

"You need to get out of here. Hide", her father said, pushing Jungkook away as he tried to help him up.

"Sir, I'm not leaving you here-"

"Yes you are. Because I need you to keep an eye out for Rose and Sonny. Take this", her father handed Jungkook two envelopes.

"Make sure you keep this safe. Don't let anyone get their hands on it. If I don't make it, open one of them which is for you. That will explain everything what you should do. You're always part of the family, Jungkook. You should know that. I'm grateful", her father smiled and patted him on the shoulder.

They heard footsteps coming down the stairs so he told Jungkook to hide. When he did, he heard the men punching and kicking her father. He really wanted to grab his gun and shoot them but then he thought about how Rose and Sonny needed him.

Jungkook is curious about what's in the envelope so he took it out of his jacket, reading his name on it. He carefully opened it and read the letter that is inside.

'Jungkook,

You've been in our lives for two years now but it seems like forever. I'm writing this just in case something happens to me. You must be wondering why you got this letter. You might not think this but you are an important person to us, ever since the day you were assigned to us. Because of the death of my wife, it brought a lot of negativity in the air. My daughter changed. She was a happy child when her mother was alive because they were so close. She doesn't think I know how much she's struggling but I do. And I can see how much you're trying to help her open up again. You'll get through to her. I know that it's destiny that you're here. Attached to this letter is the number of the bank and account where I have been saving up money not just for my children but for you as well. I know you have a life of your own but I'm hoping you'll stick around so that my children won't be alone.

Jungkook put the letter down and sighed again, wondering what he's gonna do.
