Sonny ran down the streets, fixing her shirt while holding onto her backpack, hoping it doesn't break off again. She pushed the door of the restaurant and entered, almost bumping into her boss.

"You're late again. What's your excuse this time??", her boss placed her hands on her waist, tapping her foot repeatedly. If she frowns any longer, she's gonna need an iron to fix those wrinkles.

Doesn't matter what Sonny says, whether she got ran over or punched by someone, her boss will always punish her. Actually, she got detention for not finishing the homework that she had two weeks to work on. But that's because she had no time and would stay late. She even tried to work on it while Rose kept crying in her arms because she was sick.

"I'm tired of giving you warnings. You don't take this job seriously. You've been late so many times and your behavior around customers is unacceptable, not to mention the times you talk badly about me behind my back. If you have other important things to do, go do them. We don't need you here anymore", her boss turned and was about to walk away but Sonny stood in front of her.

"I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I don't have any excuses. But I need this job. And I do take it seriously. I wouldn't have been coming if I didn't. Please don't fire me", Sonny tried to change her mind but from the look on her boss' face, she wasn't convinced.

"Make sure you return the apron and get your things out of the locker", her boss walked passed her and began talking to a customer.

Sonny looked back and wanted to talk to her but her feet wouldn't move. Chae, and everyone else, overheard the conversation. She walked up to her but Sonny didn't want to speak so she left.

"Sonny, hey. What are you doing here? I thought Jungkook would be the one to pick her up", the babysitter said while carrying Rose who's holding out her arms.

"Change of plans. I'm just gonna take her. Where are her things?", Sonny asked as she took Rose from her arms.

The babysitter went in to grab Rose's bag and stroller, giving it to her with a smile but she noticed something is wrong.

"Are you okay?", the babysitter asked.

Sonny strapped Rose in her stroller and placed the bag hanging in the handles before answering, "Thanks for taking care Rose. My dad will pay you by tomorrow."

The babysitter raised an eyebrow as Sonny left. But she knew not to step in so she closed the door.

Jungkook parked his car, checking the streets before crossing it. He fixed his jacket before knocking on the door, waiting for a response.

"Jungkook?", the babysitter was confused.

"Is she ready?", Jungkook asked, referring to Rose.

"I thought you and Sonny....Rose isn't here. Sonny picked her up. I assumed she didn't have work today", the babysitter said.

Jungkook tilted his head and remembered Sonny telling her father that she's gonna be late again.

"Is she alright? I felt like something was off with her. It looked like she'd been crying", the babysitter said.

He took out his phone and pressed on the app that tracks down her phone. It says that she's a few minutes away. So he crossed the street again and got into his car, driving away.

"We're gonna be fine Rose. I promise. I have to look for a different job now that will  go along with my schedule", Sonny handed one of Rose's toys to her but she's too busy feeling the sweater that covered the sand from below.

The beach is where Sonny used to go when she was ten years old. Bullying would always be a problem for her, which is why she never gotten close to anyone. She was a chubby girl back then. It wasn't until she was around 14 when she began working out intensely. So much that she ended up in the hospital.

"Are you hungry? Do you want a cracker? I'm sure you still have some", Sonny dug into Rose's bag and took out a small plastic bag of the cheese crackers that she's in love with.

Once she saw them, Rose's eyes widened and clapped her hands, feeling excited. Sonny gave her two, both in each hand and took smile bites while humming.

"Guess I could use this time to do homework", she said, placing her books in front of her.

She had to do an essay on what's important to her but as she thought about that, her vision was blurred with tears, some landing on the blank paper. She heard footsteps coming from behind and from the scent of cologne, she knew who it was so she quickly wiped away the tears from her face.

Jungkook sat down a few feet away from her to not make her feel uncomfortable. He glanced at her and noticed her eyes were a bit swollen and red.

"Did you get out of work early?", he asked.

She didn't answer. Rose stumbled a bit but walked over to Jungkook and hugged him. He smiled as she handed him a cracker. Sonny skimmed through the pages in her textbook, placing colored post-it's on the problems she has to do. Jungkook understood she didn't want to talk so instead he played with Rose on the sand.

A few minutes later, Rose decided to play by herself and picked up any shells she found while Jungkook went back to sit down next to Sonny. His arms were resting on his knees, watching Rose.

"What happened?", he asked.

"It's none of your business", she muttered, scooting away.

"Yeah, you're right. It's none of my business. But if anyone hurt you, it's my business to take care of it. My job is to keep your family safe, including you. Did anyone hurt you?", he asked, turning his head to meet eyes with hers.

"Do I look hurt?", she rolled her eyes.

"Not physically. But from how swollen your eyes are and the stains on your paper, I could tell you've been crying. Something happened at work?", he asked.

Sonny sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes. She closed her textbook and put everything back in her backpack before standing up.

"I'm gonna go and take Rose to the park", Sonny carries Rose and pushed the stroller.

Jungkook once again walked behind her, leaving his car behind. She ignored him and only paid attention to Rose. The park they went to is toddler friendly so she didn't really have to worry about Rose falling down and hitting her head or something. Sonny sat down on a bench and watched as Rose played with other children. But she couldn't enjoy it because Jungkook is right behind her.

"Don't you have something better to do?", Sonny asked, glaring over her shoulder.

Jungkook calmly walked over and sat down next to her, sighing while putting his hands in his pockets. Sonny spotted a scar near his ear, as if it was aimed at his neck.

"I'm just doing my job", he answered.

"Do your job somewhere else. I wanna spend time with my sister", she spat, moving towards the other bench.

He didn't move an inch. He stayed, watching Rose admire what's around her. Her little feet making sounds as she ran with a smile. Other kids would share their toys and play together. His eyes then went towards Sonny who's having trouble staying awake. Her eyes would slowly close and her head would tilt forward but jolt back up. She changed her position and put her legs on the bench so she could rest her chin against her knees. It was hard for her to keep her eyes open, to be able to watch Rose enjoy her day at the park, to see her socializing and making friends. But she's so tired, she fell asleep.

Sonny woke up, being startled from the clicking sounds from the straps of the stroller. Jungkook put Rose on the stroller since she fell asleep after having fun. But Sonny wasn't happy about it since she missed it.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. Rose fell asleep and it's getting late. Your father sent me a message. He wants me to pick you up from work but since you're already here, is there a need to let him know you got out early?", he asked.

"No. I don't want you telling him anything", she was about to grab her backpack but Jungkook picked it up, giving her a stare before motioning her to push the stroller.

Sonny is too tired to argue so she placed both hands on the handles and pushed the stroller. They walked quietly back home and didn't say a word to each other.

"Hey, how was your day?", Sonny's father asked as he came out of his office.

"Long. I'm really tired. I'm gonna put Rose in her room", Sonny said, walking down the hallway.

Her father turned towards Jungkook who was putting Sonny's backpack on the chair. He asked if his daughter was any trouble but Jungkook shook his head.

"That's great. If you're hungry, there's food that I brought in from a conference meeting. I'm gonna work on some files", Sonny's father excused himself and went back into his office.

Jungkook took off his jacket and placed it on the chair next to Sonny's backpack before taking quiet steps towards Rose's bedroom. He peeked inside and noticed Sonny asleep while leaning against Rose's bed. He stepped in and kneeled down, moving strands of her hair behind her ear. She's crying in her sleep.

Jungkook carefully picked Sonny up into his arms and took her into her room, placing her down on the bed before covering her up with the blankets. He stayed there for about a minute, looking around her room. Mostly her drawings covered the walls. Then one of her notebooks that was on her dresser caught his attention. The bright colors from the paint stained the corners of the papers. He skimmed through each page. He knew she loves to draw but he didn't think it would be something like this. Something that makes her feel magical and free. This doesn't compare to the doodles she used to do over a year ago.

Sonny turned on her left side and hugged the pillow, mumbling before staying calm. Jungkook wondered there must be something going on for her to be this talented and creative. It has to come from somewhere.
