Chapter 31 - Running Away
Ethan was in a frantic mood to leave the house as soon as possible. Despite waking up with a painful headache, Ethan remembered everything that happened last night.
Ethan was terrified that he messed everything up by acting on his impulses. Kissing Thomas was a mistake that Ethan regretted, because his drunk actions were spurred on by his inner emotions. Kissing Thomas twice made Ethan feel embarrassed from coming onto Thomas too strongly, especially since he never saw Thomas share the same feelings.
Going to the office during the day was the best thing Ethan thought he could do to avoid Thomas. It may be Sunday, but Ethan decided that working on a weekend was better than staying in the house - with the same man he had growing feelings for.
Ethan gently closed his bedroom door as he didn't want to wake up Thomas. He deliberately sneaked past Thomas' bedroom so that he wouldn't wake him up.
Remembering his keys on the living room table, Ethan's heart stopped when he realised Thomas was asleep in the living room.
Ethan had no idea why Thomas was asleep downstairs rather than upstairs, but Ethan didn't care as all he wanted to do was to get far away from Thomas.
Ethan was treading carefully as he tiptoed towards the table. Picking up his keys, the rattling noises seemed to stir Thomas, and the bodyguard soon woke up with Ethan's face looking back at him terrified.
"Hey." A startled Ethan nervously whispered. "What are you doing down here?"
Thomas saw that Ethan was gesturing towards sleeping in the living room. He then went on to explain, "I rested my eyes for too long I guess."
Thomas began to sit up on the couch, and Ethan instantly backed away from Thomas as if he was a pit of lava. Thomas looked back at Ethan funnily as he could hear him laugh nervously.
"I'm late for work Tommy, so I'll see you later." Ethan rushed as he felt like he was ready to run through the door.
Thomas was rubbing his eyes as he was still tired from being disrupted from his sleep. "On a Sunday?"
"Business stuff." Ethan shrugged his shoulders as he tried to play it cool, despite his legs being jelly right now. "Bye Tommy."
As Ethan walked around the couch, Thomas reached for his arm and anchored Ethan to the spot. "We should talk about-"
"Nope!" Ethan was trying to shake Thomas' grip away from his arm, but the bodyguard was a lot more stronger. "You're wrinkling my suit, jackass."
Thomas didn't want to play any games as he was constantly thinking about how he was going confront Ethan. Thomas chose to go straight to the point when he mentioned, "We kissed last night... You kissed me, Ethan."
Ethan was finally able to free himself from Thomas as he put a few footsteps between them. "I was just drunk, Tommy. I must have hallucinated that you were the woman from last night or something. And if you didn't know, we were pretty much going to have sex if you didn't spoil the mood."
Thomas was able to easily read how Ethan was deflecting all the responsibility from his own actions last night. He knew Ethan was lying because he could hear it in his voice, and the fact that he was avoiding eye contact spoke volume.
Thomas was looking right into Ethan's eyes as he pressed for an answer. "You perfectly knew that it was me you were kissing, didn't you?"
Ethan opened his mouth to speak, but he was quickly silenced as Ethan sealed his lips shut straight afterwards. He didn't have any words he could use to reply to Thomas, which would let them both come to the same conclusion that the kiss meant nothing between them.
Thomas recently came to the conclusion that Ethan liked him - the same way that he also liked Ethan. It could have been wishful thinking from Thomas' point of view, but Thomas was ready to run with it as he could still remember Ethan's gentle touch.
"This is just lust between us." Ethan explained, "We're always constantly together, and certain feelings are going to overlap because of it."
Thomas disagreed as he kept shaking his head. He didn't believe a single word Ethan was saying, and his gut was telling him the same thing too.
"I'll get over it Tommy, I just need time and space."
Thomas played along as he entertained Ethan's idea. "We're living under the same roof, how do you think that's going to work out?"
"Like this." Ethan walked towards the front door and reached for the doorknob to let himself leave through the door.
Thomas laughed at Ethan as the bodyguard then blocked the door from opening. "We're not going to be able to do that forever Ethan. Do you want me to move out instead? I can find a hotel room if things will be more comfortable for you?"
"No!" Even though Ethan said that he didn't want to be around Thomas as much anymore, it didn't mean he wanted the bodyguard to leave.
All of Thomas' interrogation was getting to him as Ethan didn't have an answer to everything Thomas was asking. "Just stop talking so much Thomas!"
When Ethan couldn't open the front door, he manoeuvred around Thomas to try the back door instead. But Thomas quickly trapped Ethan by forcing him to sit on the staircase.
Thomas sat down next to Ethan as he watched the other man shift his body away from him. "I can stop talking when you finally open up about the real reason why you kissed me, and why you're literally running away from me."
After remaining silent for a while, Ethan began to stare at the ground as he swallowed nervously - afraid of how Thomas was going to react. "I like you Thomas, more than just a friend."
"You like me?"
Thomas couldn't hide the grin on his face when he heard Ethan's confession. Thomas had to check if he heard right because he thought it was a dream. This was what Thomas has been feeling for a while now, and Thomas had all his words caught in his throat because he didn't expect it.
"Yes... No!" Ethan kept backtracking his words as he tried to escape the reality he had been dismissing. "I'm just being crazy because I've been imaging all this sexual tension between us, and my mind has been running away from me because we've been around each other too much."
Thomas had accepted his own feelings for Ethan, and he was ready to bury them because he thought Ethan could never feel the same way. But Ethan was now confessing his feelings to him, and Thomas was ready to scream with joy because he was so close to getting what he wanted.
"I just need space to sort my feelings out," Ethan continued. "I can make it stop Thomas, I just don't want to ruin things between us."
Ethan finally turned to look at Thomas as he asked, "Will you give me space?"
Thomas was anxious for an answer when he asked, "Is this what you really want?"
Ethan's voice broke when he answered, "Yes." Ethan then stood up from his spot on the staircase, and walked to the door.
Thomas was still sitting down when the smirk on his face was forced out. Not only could he hear Ethan's lie, he could feel it too. Thomas could see it because of how Ethan was dragging his feet towards the door, and Thomas was ready to laugh until he saw Ethan was already out the door.
Thomas ran up to Ethan and dragged him back inside. Closing the door behind them, Thomas pressed Ethan's back against the door so that they were face to face.
Thomas looked deeply into Ethan's eyes as no words spoken between them. Thomas was hesitant as he slowly leaned his head forward, to give Ethan time to back away. But when Ethan didn't move away from him, Thomas was finally able to brush his lips against Ethan's.
Ethan closed his eyes as his hands reached towards the back of Thomas' neck, anchoring him in place. Thomas then moved his own hands to hold Ethan's waist, because he didn't want to be separated from Ethan.
Thomas' eyes became heavy as he could only focus on Ethan's touch. Meanwhile Ethan's fingers were sensitively caressing the back of Thomas' neck.
Kiss after kiss both Thomas and Ethan were physically inseparable. They were expressing their hidden feelings as they were showing how much they truly cared for each other.
It was only when they needed to catch their breath did Thomas pull away. Once Thomas pulled away, he then softly rested his forehead against Ethan's.
When they both finally opened their eyes to look back at each other, Ethan and Thomas were wearing a matching shy smile. Thomas was as happy as he could be as he kissed the smile on Ethan's lip, embracing the man again as he moved his hands up to gently hold Ethan's face.
Ethan smiled into the kiss as he could feel Thomas' desperation to latch onto him. Ethan has always wanted someone to treat him so tenderly like Thomas, and so Ethan met Thomas with equal enthusiasm once again.
With one last kiss, Thomas pulled away as he teased Ethan. "So... Is this what you want?"
It was impossible for Ethan to lie as his smiled showed it. The way Ethan used his thumb to stroke Thomas' cheek expressed it, as Ethan told Thomas honestly. "Yes."
Thomas nodded his head as he grinned back at Ethan. He now knew that the both of them wanted this, and Thomas' heart swelled when Ethan kissed him again.
It was a quick peck on the lips because Ethan had to physically push Thomas' chest away from him. "I really need to get to work though."
Thomas didn't like how the mood was being ruined, because he wasn't ready for it to be over yet. When Thomas tried to kiss him again, Ethan laughed as he swerved his head slightly.
Ethan assured Thomas that it wasn't over between them, because he had to stop themselves from getting carried away so easily. "I'll see you tonight."
Thomas was looking into Ethan's eyes softly as he asked, "No more running away?"
Ethan chuckled as he nodded his head. "Believe me, running away is last thing I want to be doing right now. But I'm late as fuck right now, and I could be hours late if we don't stop this now."
Thomas rocked his head side to side as he realised Ethan was right. Now that he was finally with Ethan, and no longer dreaming about being in this position with him, Thomas knew that one of them had to be responsible.
"One for the road?" Thomas grinned.
Ethan copied Thomas' actions by rocking his own head side to side. Ethan pretended to deeply think about it, but they both knew what was going to happen next. "You get 2 minutes, Tommy."
"5 minutes." Thomas decided as he silenced any counter arguments by kissing Ethan.
