chapter 4: Phi Jes
Jes's POV
My heart pounding hard against my chest as I cast my eyes down and look at Bible's sleeping face. How did we end up in this position? I sigh and lock him with my hands before I slowly get up. It's hard, with a drunk healthy male body but I manage and stand up finally. I pull him to one side and hold his waist tight while rounding his hand on my shoulder. His body keep swinging as he lost control of it. I look around and hail a cab. Carefully putting him in first, I then settle in the car and head to his house.
Upon reaching, I pay the cab driver and carry Bible to his room. It's a long travel, I literally have to carry him into the house and all the way up to his room. And he isn't light weight either. Finally, after carrying him for 10 minutes, I gently place him on his bed and let out a loud sigh. Damn! That's a lot of work. I slump down the bed beside him with my battery low. Wasn't I trained in military? Why am I already feeling exhausted after this small task. Compositing myself after a while, I get up and was about to leave with one last look at Bible only to realise he might need to be changed because jeans and jacket isn't comfortable to sleep. I contemplate whether to change him or not but decide to do it anyway. I look around the room in search of his closet and find two doors. Opening the first one, I find it to be a washroom. I open the other and get greeted with a small size showroom of fashion.
Rich people things. Shaking my head, I enter in and grab a t-shirt and shorts before going back to Bible. I remove his shoes and clothes before putting on the ones I brought. Even when I'm pulling him to sides, he doesn't bulge. The guy is so wasted. I finish with my task and finally leave the room. Ride back home takes a while but I finally end the long night with a sleep.
Morning comes fast and I get ready to work.
"Good morning, sir Bible." I greet Bible when I see him sitting in the living room.
While holding his head in his hand, he looks up and sees me. I give him a smile but he hisses out before tightening his hold on the head. Must be the hangover. I note internally and put the pills I brought for him. I knew something like this would happen after the amount of alcohol he had last night so I came prepared. I bring some water from the kitchen.
"Here, have this pill, sir Bible. It'll help with the headache." I put forth the pill and water.
"Thanks." He stares for a minute before taking and gulping the pill.
He gets up and was about to fall down when I catch him.
"Do you want me to take you to your room, sir?" I ask him.
"No, I'm fine. I just feel dizzy." He mumbles not looking at me and removes my hands as he stands on his own.
"Want to sleep?" I query further.
"Not really. I'll fresh up and come back." With saying that, he goes to his room.
I sit on the couch as I wait for his return. Almost after 30 minutes, he climbs down the stairs in his casual tee and tracks. Is he not going anywhere today? I think to myself.
Walking down, Bible avoids looking at me and goes to sit on the couch far distance. I get confused but shrug it off and head to kitchen.
"Is the soup ready, aunty?" I ask the lady. I told her to prepare soup for Bible.
"Yes, here." She hands me the bowl. I thank her and head back to Bible.
"Sir Bible, here is your breakfast." I place the bowl on the table.
"I can't eat. I'm already feeling like shit and have vomiting sensation." He mumbles, still not looking at me.
"This soup will help you." I tell him while pushing the bowl towards him.
He waits for a while but starts to drink. I stand by and wait. Once he's done, I call aunt Seema and she cleans the table.
"Do you have any plans for today, sir?" I question him though I feel today we're going to be at home.
"I'll be at home. You can go back if you want." He rumbles.
"No, I'll be here." I nod and end the conversation.
Bible is a bit different today compared to yesterday. He doesn't look at me while talking or talk in his usual loud voice. Maybe because of the hangover.
"Um...I'm sorry about yesterday." I look at him as he apologizes to me, barely meeting my eyes, "and thank you."
I take a moment but realise it's for the scene he created yesterday and the help I did.
"No problem, sir Bible. I told you already, it's my duty." I shrug off.
"Aren't you angry at me for the trouble I caused you yesterday?" He calls out surprised, now looking at me directly.
"No, sir Bible. All you did was pass out. If you were to vomit all over or pull out some stunts, that would have been trouble. So, no, you didn't trouble me yesterday." I answer honestly with a smile.
A small smile pulls out his lips at my words and somehow he looks more relaxed and composed than he did when I came here. Did he think I was angry at him or say anything to him?
"Um...still thank you." He thanks me again, "I have one request"
"Ask away, sir Bible." I tell him to continue.
"Don't call me sir. Call me by my name." He says.
"I can't do that, sir. You're my employer and I have to respect you." I deny him.
It's still early, I can't get casual with him already. I need to act professional.
"What's your age?" He questions next.
"32, sir." I respond.
"I'm 26," I already know his age, I mean I researched about him, "then you're elder than me. I'll call you phi."
"Sure, sir Bible. Whatever you're comfortable with." I agree since I don't want to go against him.
"Thank you, phi Jes." He says with a pretty smile and my heart skips a beat.
"No problem, sir." I manage to utter.
"And I hope soon you'll address me with my name." I simply nod at his sentence.
"If you don't mind me asking.."
"I don't mind, phi Jes." Before I could even finish my sentence, he tells me to ask.
"Why don't you work with your father?" I bring out the question which I've been thinking.
His smile fades and his face contures with anger and sadness, "I don't like him or his business. He wants to rule us like some king and he controls everything. We're like puppets in his hands. And now I refuse to act according to his interests."
I get taken back by his words. He hates his father. I just thought they don't have a good relationship between them but not this extent.
"I'm sorry, sir." I apologize for ruining his mood, "then what is your interest?"
"I like teaching. Since childhood, I wanted to become a teacher." He starts with a smile but that fades slowly.
"Then why don't you do it?" I don't know why I'm prying so much.
"I'm scared my father would ruin it. He always said me being a teacher would starin his image." He replies sadly.
"And why would you bother about his image?" I think my question surprised him with the look he gave me, "I'm sorry if I crossed my line."
"No no. Actually this is the first time someone said this to me. Even my brother would stop me, of course having no choice. But you're first person who is saying not to give a shit about my father." He states his option.
"I mean why would you stop doing something you like just for someone else? If I were to suggest, I say, don't mind about anyone and do whatever you like." I suggest while shrugging.
Life is short. So why would you live by someone else's mercy?
"Then do you think I should start teaching?" He queries and I nod. He bites his lip as he thinks for a while, "thank you, phi Jes. I'll think about it. Your encouragement is what making me take a step forward."
He stands up and hugs me as he says. I get taken back and stay still. Pulling away, he gives me big and honest smile. I feel guilty for using him because he seems like a sincere person. Hopefully, by the time I'm done with my work, I won't hurt him and we're in a state where he can forgive me.
