19. Truth

"Please Kai, talk to me." Kai had locked himself in his room. I convinced my parents that it had something to do with his poor surfing skills.

"Ellie?" Dad came upstairs to put an end to the noise I was making baniging on Kai's door. "Perhaps if you leave him alone. I'm sure he'll come around. There'll be new waves tomorrow son!" He shouted, hoping that Kai would hear him. Nevertheless I gave up and returned to my room. There I started pacing back and forth.

"Shit, shit, shit." There was no doubt about it, Kai knew about Enea and I. But how? He must have seen us, we must have been careless. It dawned on me that I was angry with him, with Enea. Underneath the guilt I felt for Kai, I hadn't forgotten how Enea made me feel today. He made me feel like a silly little girl with an irrational crush that would never come true. As if he hadn't returned my feelings for him. Or had he simply been using me all this time?

I picked up the phone and made the call.

Deniz had been slow to answer, his voice tired.

"Hello?"

"Sorry, did I wake you?" The time difference in Greece couldn't be that bad I thought. Nevertheless, Deniz seemed to come around hearing the sound of my voice spark through the other end of the line.

"Ellie?"

"Yes, yes, it's me." I said hastily, my heart beating fast.

"How are you? I've tried..."

"I'm doing it Deniz, I'm going to the police."

A pause.

"Police, Why?" He sounded confused.

"So that they can arrest Enea. For the drugs, remember?" There was a slight excitement in my voice.

"Have you found more evidence to support this?"

"Support what?" I frowned. I guess I had expected Deniz to forward me the chief of police number right away. Instead he started questioning my choice of action.

"Well, they can't make a case without hard evidence." He said.

"With evidence you mean...?"

"The drugs. Have you gotten hold of some more pills?"

"Erm..." I fell back on my bed, my gaze wandering the sealing as I listened to Deniz let out a deep sigh.

"Ellie, we need evidence. That's why I suggested that we hand in what we found in that freezer to my dad, to the police. You were the one that protested the idea in the first place, how come you've suddenly changed your mind?"

"I..." Silence fell. I couldn't tell him about Enea and I, how he hurt me.

I shook my head. "It doesn't matter."

"It doesn't?"

"No, because I'll get some more evidence tonight."

"Tonight? How?"

"I..." Something heavy weighed in my stomach. "I'll just go back to the boathouse, to the freezer and collect what we found in there."

"Ellie, that's too dangerous. You can't go by yourself."

"I have to." I said, lips trembling. " People like Enea and his Uncle are a danger to society, those drugs need to be off the street as soon as possible."

"Ellie." Deniz pleaded. "If you just wait until I get back..."

"Sorry Deniz but it will be too late by then. I've made up my mind, I'm taking the drugs to the police tonight.

*****

Sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night had been the easy part. With all the construction going on on the house I'm surprised no burglar had found their way in sooner. Getting to town however, was more of a task at hand. I couldn't ask my parents for a ride for obvious reasons, neither did I want Sara to know about my plan and so I dusted off dad's old bike and got to peddling. I was worried I'd wake the whole town by the way the chains were rattling and so I decided to park it down the street to the surf shop.

"No." I whined, seeing that the lights were still on in the shop. There was something going on inside, a party. With catlike movements I made my way to a window. My eyes widened at the sight of enea and his friends slouching around the shop, dancing, laughing and having fun.

"That't fucking bastarad." I gasped, sighting the banner that hung across the ceiling. "Farwell Enea..." It read. "...and goodluck on the tour!"

He was having a farewell party without inviting me, his girlfriend. Alright, I understood that the girlfriend thing had been a little far fetched, especially after today. Still, I was sure that at some point I called him a friend of the family. How could he let all of us miss this chance to say goodby to him, to wish him good luck ahead of the tour? Some part of me had suppressed the events of today and therefore it would make sense for Enea, Kai and I to be in the same room again. Nevertheless Uncle Alvaro hadn't said a word to mom and dad, now he lay drunk and passed out amongst Enea and his friends. I look at him through the window with sheer disgust painted across my face.

"Ellie?"

I was standing on a shipping box of some sort. My legs got all wobbly hearing the emerging voice that was Enea's. I fell to the ground.

"Ellie, are you okay?" Rushing to my rescue was Enea. He even brought me to my feet as if he had suppressed the memories of today as well.

"Are you okay, what were you doing up there?" He had gone outside to take a leak. He had spotted me peeking through the windows of the surf shop.

"Don't touch me!" I shouted, yanking my body away, wanting his touch off of me.

"Ellie, please wait!"

I made a run for the boathouse, like a crazy person I made a run for it and with Enea not far behind me, we looked like toddlers chasing each other in the night.

I reached the wooden dock with no air left in my lungs. The plan was simple, once in the boathouse get to the freezer and grab the drugs. However I hadn't planned on having Enea at my heels whilst doing so.

"Ellie what the fuck is going on, what are you even doing here?" He said, breathless from the run. The door to the boathouse closed behind him, confounding the both of us into the dark and narrow space.

"Why are you running from me?" He said, almost saddened by the fact.

I stood back with my arms folded across my chest. I chose silence as my answer and with the edge of the freezer stabbing me in the back I realized that all I had to do was to turn around, pop it open and make a run for it with the drugs. Passing Enea is where the challenge might lay.

"Ellie please."

Whilst a million thoughts roamed my head, Enea seemed to hold on to one, pure desperation. Something about him making me feel like I was in the wrong really angered me. "What? What do you want?" I asked, staring him down like a wolf does to a sheep.

His expression softened with my harsh tone. Perhaps he realized that I had grown to hate him, just like that I had grown to hate him, within the space of twelve hours.

"I was just asking if you were okay, what's wrong with that?"

"Everything!" I shouted, suddenly forgetting my purpose, my mission. Instead letting all the emotions and anger take over, distracting me from the fact that a freezer full of drugs poked my rear pocket.

"You've been ignoring me for weeks Enea, no text no calls, everything is wrong with that."

"What did you expect?" Enea chuckles in surprise. "I found you in the middle of the road one night, crying. And when I go to drop you off at your house you...you just...just...kiss me!"

"You kissed me back." I mumbled, my gaze falling to my naked feet. Raising my chin again I found Enea nodding his head up and down.

"Yeah, I kissed you, a mistake I wish I could take back. You're just a kid Ellie. Us, this, it's not gonna work."

And there it was, I thought. The one thing that stood between us A part of me had wished for him to be unware about it, or dumb enough to look past it. But like everyone else he was aware, worse, he let it affect his true feelings.

"Take it back then!" I shouted, in his face she had shouted. Good thing no one could hear us out there in the boathouse, not whilst all that music was going off in the shop.

"You know I can't do that." Enea said, shaking his head. "It's not possible."

At first I thought he was referring to the science of it all, the fact that time travel only happened in movies. However Enea had meant something else. Saying this he had stepped forwards, closing the gap between us. Our height difference made me tilt my head just to meet the dark eyes that was Enea's. In his cornea his pupils remain expanded as if all of his senses had been heightened. His breathing was slow but steady, matching the way my chest rose up and down. To my surprise his eyes did just that, they traveled to my rising chest and then stopped somewhere below my neck.

"Enea....." I whispered, my words airy. I stumbled back in surprise once he went to tilt his head, his soft lips latching on to the tender skin just above my collarbone. His hands went to squeeze my shoulders, perhaps wanting for me to hold still. My eyes flickered when his curls went to irritate the left side of my face. Somewhere below me I heard him taking in a deep breath before his lips latched themselves back onto my skin, sucking and nipping at the tender. I went to rotate my head, a bit frightened to do so. He followed my sudden movement and our lips met in the middle. A soft kiss, short and sweet. Enea brought my shoulders back again to meet her eyes.

"Ellie I..." His lips were plump and glossy with wet saliva, a lingering taste of alcohol.

"Just kiss me." I gasped. overwhelmed by the warmth that had erupted between my legs.

"Yes, okay." He moved his hand to cup my face, bringing it forwards so that he would be in control, holding me steady whilst serenading my neck with soft but demanding kisses, all whilst his free hand traveled towards where heat had risen between her trembling legs. His searching hand slipped inside making me stumble backwards, taken back by his demanding grip.

"No." I spoke into our locked lips. "No." I shook her and drew back. "We can't do this."

"What?" Enea's pupils had expanded across his entire cornea making his eyes appear dark. His chest rose up and down with his uncontainable arousal. "Ellie, just let me..." His hand went to hook themselves underneath my knees wanting to fall back on top of the drumming freezer.

"Enea please" I gasped. "We have to stop, I know about the drugs."

A pause, all movement seized.
