Chapter 9
A week after the incident at Scott's and there was a thick tension in the air. They hadn't spoke in a few days. Candice had spent days getting Mitch to calm down and days making him understand that things would be okay. Scott has been spending time with Avi and Kevin. Both of the men agreeing to take his mind of Mitch. Unfortunately for both sets of friends, it was harder than they thought.
Mitch realized that he made a huge mistake leaving all those years ago. He felt like something had been missing and never know what it was until landing back home. Now he knew. He didn't care about the interview anymore. He wondered how life would have been if he had stayed. What at first seemed like hell turned into something he wish he had.
Scott on the other hand was now more than ever determined to get over Mitch. He was through trying to hold out hope that something would change. Mitch didn't want him. Mitch left without saying anything, left him hurt. If that night showed him anything, it was that life was over, had been for a long time. He was too love sick to see it. He had a new plan. He wanted to get back at Mitch for hurting him.
_________
It was two days before the interview and the day of Kirstie and Avi's daughter Sophia's 3rd birthday. Their two children had become fond of their godfather. He had went to Dallas the day before and against his better judgment spent a thousand a piece on Sophia and AJ.
Everyone was there. Kirstie had even invited Candice, Nicole, and Todrick. Mitch had helped with out decorations while Scott was running late.
"So you and Scott haven't spoke in a while."
"Nope"
"Why?"
"After that night. I don't think I can face him. Besides I'm leaving in two days anyway."
"WHAT?! WHY?!"
"My agent finally got the hint that I didn't want to do the interview. I'll come back. Now that I've been home, I can't just not come back. You would kill me."
"Damn straight!"
As the party started, things were off to a great start until Scott showed up. He pulled up and hopped out of the car. Joining him by his side, was Mitch's rival, Alex. Kirstie immediately became pissed off, dragging Scott into their house.
"The fuck, Scott?"
"What?"
"Alex? Really? What is this some sort of scheme to get back at Mitch?"
Yes. "No."
"You're lying."
"Am not."
"Yes, you are, you big fucking baby. Look outside!"
It almost looked like a shoot out scene in a Western. Alex, standing tall, arms folded staring at the brunette as literally all his friends stood behind him.
"Kirk."
Alex flinched as Mitch said his name. Mitch laughed.
"I hope you know he's mine now."
"Yeah okay."
Mitch rolled his eyes, shook his head, and walked away as Scott came outside. He had told Kirstie his plan to get back at Mitch and.....she slapped him. Which is he was sporting a slightly red cheek. Kirstie walked past them, Alex attempting to speak to her as she calmly flipped him the bird.
At this point Mitch and all the girls were huddled under a tree, watching the festivities. Mitch is forced to roll his eyes every time Scott and Alex kiss or Alex acts like he's one of the gang, despite the looks given to him by literally everyone.
"So the famous Alex Kirk."
"That's him."
"I can not believe he's being this petty."
"Kit, he brought him here to make me jealous, didn't he?"
"What do you think?"
Mitch thought back to all the kisses Scott and Alex shared. They did looked forced and Scott would stare at him when they did. Oh yeah, that's his plan.
"The question is though, is it working?" Nicole asks lightly poking Mitch's shoulder. Hell yeah it's working. Mitch just realized his feelings and now this.
Mitch sighs and puts his head in his hand. "Absolutely."
"Why?"
"I don't fucking know."
"Mitchy, do you still have feelings for him?"
"Of course he does."
Mitch, Scott, Kevin, Avi, and Kirstie's mothers joined the group awhile ago and set through most of the drama. Mitch's mom had, until this point, kept her mouth shut on her son's affairs but this was too much. She knew from the moment she saw the two of them together again there was still something there. Even if her son was too naive to notice.
"Ma!"
"Mitchell! Don't lie to your mother. You know you do."
Each one of his friends patiently wait. Connie and Nel stealing glances at each other. Kirstie and Esther lightly bounce up and down, the suspense killing them. Mitch turns to face them. Tears threaten to fall as he slowly nodded his head.
"I do."
Kirstie and Esther squeal loud enough for the people around them to hear. Avi, Kevin, and Scott turn around.
"What was that?"
"Hey Alex's bitch, mind ya business!"
Scott rolled his eyes and continued his convo as Alex annoying continued introducing himself as "Scott's boyfriend" to everyone there. Mike refusing to shake his hand and the rest of their fathers laughing in his face. Kirsitie pulled Mitch to side.
"Mitchy, how are you feeling? Really?"
"Honestly? I want to punch the fucking nose off of his face."
"Not about Alex, you donut! Scotty."
"Ugh, I don't know. It's like for 4 years I could tune out the little voice in my mind telling me to come back home. That he was probably still waiting on me. And he was. Being back here just...seeing him....remembering what we had....forced me to remember...I think I'm still in love with him."
"I know."
"How?"
"You two are so transparent. You got this twinkle in your eye when I mentioned his name the other day. You two still love each other and think you spent so much time convincing yourself otherwise. Which is fine but the reality is you two will never not be that for each other. Like right now. He brought Alex here, to a group he knows hates his guts, just prove to you he moved on. To prove he didn't feel the same way. But it's backfiring miserably. Alex is just too into playing rebound to notice."
Mitch started crying, shaking. He didn't care who saw him. The entire group of women now staring at him. Avi and Kevin almost going into protective big brother mode. Scott unable to tear himself away from the sight now matter how hard he tried. Alex trying his best to get his attention.
"Kit, help me. What do I do?"
