"Silly girl,
You are not leaving anything behind.
It is the start of a new life,
a new chapter.
But that doesn't mean
You leave the old ones behind.

Aanabia got into Yazdan's car and buckled up as Yazdan closed the passenger side door. He walked to the driver side and got in, starting the ignition.
"Where are we heading to?" she asked him, trying hard not to panic.
"Home. You can change then we head out for dinner" he told her, pulling out of the parking lot. Aanabia nodded. Since her shoes were itching her, she bent down and unbuckled them before taking them off. Yazdan let out a small laugh before switching on the radio. Some random song played while Aanabia got lost in her thoughts, again.
"Ah. Why did it take time for you to say yes today?" he asked her, snapping her out of her trance. She let out a small, embarrassed laugh.
"I was lost in my thoughts. Actually singing baby shark in my head........... so......" she said and Yazdan frowned at her before letting out a small smile. Typical. Why am I not surprised?
"That is so you" he replied and she shrugged, shuffling to get comfortable. She was finally comfortable at her seat.
"Done shuffling?" Yazdan teased her and she rolled her eyes at him.
"Why are you leaving for Australia so soon?" she asked him. Yes.
"I have work. I am supposed to be in Adelaide right now actually. But because of us, I postponed it" he glanced at her with a small smile. Aanabia gaped at him with a slightly ajar mouth.
"So you live in Adelaide?" she asked him and he nodded, pulling into their street.
"I like the place. And Yahyah lives there too so that is a plus" he told her. She nodded at him.
"So we leave here on Monday and go to Adelaide? Wait. What about the others?" She was genuinely curious. Yazdan let out a small smirk at her, while pulling into the familiar driveway.
"They have their own houses. Kayan Bhai and Amyrah Bhabhi live in Melbourne with the kids, Sahl is usually in Canberra, Kulthum is at Sydney but it depends where she is working, the same with Safwah. It depends on where he is working. For Karmaan, he is here at Oxford Uni dorms. Mom, abba and grandparents live in Gold Coast" he told her and she heaved a sigh. Yazdan let out a small laugh and unlocked the doors.
"Get off" he told her and he did the same. Aanabia stared at the house in front of her and turned to the house on the opposite street.
"Can I go change at my place?" she asked him and he frowned at her.
"You want to?" he asked her and she nodded, giddily. Yazdan let out a small smile and nodded.
"Give me your number so that I can call you when I am done" she told him and he rolled his eyes, hold his hand out for his phone. She gave it to him and he tapped in his number before giving it back to her.
"Bye" She picked up her Lahenga and walked towards the gates. Yazdan, who was standing still and watching her go, suddenly walked towards her with a laugh.
"Let me help" he muttered, picking up her Lahenga for her. The falls around the suit were now clenched in four hands, as she walked. She let out a laugh when Yazdan almost tumbled onto the footpath. Yazdan frowned at the roads. The two finally made it to the house next door and that's when it clicked Yazdan. I could have parked the car here. He face palmed himself when Hifzah opened the door to see her daughter standing at the front. She rolled her eyes and turned to Yazdan.
"As salaam alaikum, Hifzah Khala (mom's sister)" he said and Hifzah smiled at him while replying.
"What are you doing here Aanabia?" she questioned her daughter who shrugged.
"To change?"
"You are meant to go to your in-laws place, the first thing after Nikah!" scolded Hifzah and Aanabia turned to Yazdan with a pout. Yazdan shrugged. I don't think we can make it there this fast, Khala.
"Actually, that would be difficult" Yazdan told Hifzah, who frowned at him.
"Difficult? Why?" she asked, still standing by the door and not letting the two inside.
"Because her in-laws place is all the way in Gold Coast, Australia" he replied and by the looks of his mother-in-law's expression, he knew he won. Hifzah sighed and let them inside.
"Nahal is upstairs in the library" she called out to Aanabia who rushed onto the steps towards her room. Hifzah rolled her eyes at her and turned to her son-in-law who stood there awkwardly. He rubbed his neck and Hifzah smiled.
"Do you want some tea?" she asked him and he shook his head, quickly.
"Jazak Allah Khair. I have to go....... Back. To change." He told her and she nodded. Yazdan turned to walk out of the living room when he was called back by Hifzah.
"Thank you" she told him and he frowned.
"Thank you? For what, Khala?" he asked her and she smiled at him.
"For accepting my Aanabia the way she is. She is not the most easy person to get along with but truth be told, she is an amazing person. Please don't hurt her" she told him with tears brimming her eyes. Yazdan shook his head at his mother-in-law.
"I should be thanking you, Khala. You gave me someone as amazing as her. So Thank you. I promise to look after and love her to the best of my ability" he told her and she let out a grin.
"Good. Because any other way, she would have your head on silver platter, Yazdan" laughed Hifzah and Yazdan chuckled too.
"Alright Khala. As salaam." With that, he turned and walked out of the house without once looking back.

Aanabia took a bath and changed into sweats and tees, tying her hair in a messy bun. She sighed in relief when her body felt light. Grinning to herself, she picked up her phone and opened Viber. She had saved Yazdan's number as Yaza and she did not know why. But nonetheless, she messaged him a sticker, waiting his response. Last seen online 3 minutes ago. She read.
A sticker was sent back. It was a bear hug saying Hi. She let out a small laugh before sending the Koala Bear heart sticker.
Cute.
The two sent stickers to each other back and forth until he called. Aanabia smiled.
"As salaam alaikum" he said.
"Wa Alaikum Mus Salaam" she replied, laying on her back on the bed.
"Zaiha ma asked why you didn't come with me" he told her and she groaned. Great. First day and I am already in the bad books.
"What did you say?"
"I said you may have married me, you are still your own person and also you are comfortable there" he replied and she smiled to herself.
"I am my own person, huh." She teased him and he let out a laugh, it ringing through the call causing her heart to flutter.
"I love it when you laugh" she told him and he went silent. She frowned. Did I scare-
"You already told me that" Aanabia let out a small laugh herself.
"So you remembered"
"Of course I did. I called to tell you to wear something classy. I'll pick you up after Magrib. Also...... pack your things. We are moving to the hotel where the family is staying" Aanabia frowned at the pillow.
"Alright"
"What are you wearing tonight?" he asked her and she blushed bright. She knew what tonight meant but she also knew Yazdan is a gentleman who would not do anything with her if she doesn't want to. The thing is, does she want to? It's part of marriage Aanabia. You have to. She remembered her mother telling her. But she also remembered Hifzah telling her that it's okay to say no. Like she would, her mind sassed but she knew it was true. Yazdan was an amazing person and she would do everything to make sure he remains as such. Including not giving him sugar.
"Aanabia?" his voice snapped her out of her trance. Stupid girl.
"Sorry. I zoned out. I am not sure. Probably some dress. Why?" she questioned, sitting up on the bed.
"Wear something blue." He told her and she smirked before it turned to a full blown grin.
"You want to twin with me?" she teased him and he chuckled.
"Yes. We will. Now go. I have to pray Asr" She checked the time and realized it was almost Asr.
"Alright. I have to start getting ready after Asr to make it out by Magrib"
"You want to leave before Magrib and head to the hotel, check in and leave the things there or you want to leave after Magrib?" he asked her and she frowned.
"Up to you. But if we leave after Magrib, do know that we cannot check in before dinner. It will be too late" she told him and he sighed on the other side.
"True. Want to go swimming after dinner? When we check in?" he asked her and she groaned.
"It is cold. We will catch a cold" she told him and he laughed.
"Alright then. Call me when you are ready, we can leave then" he told her and she nodded, before realizing he cannot see her and face palming herself.
"Sure. Bye. Allah Hafiz"
"Allah Hafiz, Aanabia"
After Yazdan hung up, Aanabia set on the bed and stared at her hands. Being married does not seem any different from being single. Maybe it's because I am at home? Or maybe it's because I married Yazdan? Probably both. Anyway. What to wear? With those thoughts, she stood up and walked into the bathroom to do Whudhu for Asr. She then stood up for Asr for she knew how much she needed to thank the Almighty for getting her this far, for granting her utmost blessing in the guise of Yazdan and for giving her an amazing family to love and cherish.
After Asr was chaotic. She did not know what she should wear and Nahal was not making things easy. She had managed to pack most of her things that week so Nahal was basically now unpacking the suitcase that had her dresses. Finally she found a navy blue dress that was plain but of a beautiful patterned fabric. So she got dressed, did her makeup lightly and wore her hijab in records time which happened to be 15 minutes. She was surprised but nonetheless, she was getting late. She then called Yazdan to pick her up and hung up. She stared at the contents of her room, which had been hers ever since she was a child. The walls had changed over time, from posters of cartoons, to bands to plain white walls with lights and artwork now. She looked over to the window and saw her colorful dreamcatcher dangling in the afternoon air. She gently took it off and placed it in a paper bag, before placing it in her suitcase. Heaving a sigh, she set on the bed for the last time. Last time. She wanted to cry but no tears came. She wanted to scream but no words came. Perhaps being in love with my husband makes it easier?
"Aapa?" Nahal called from the door of her room causing Aanabia to snap out of her trance. She looked at her with a small smile.
"Yeah?"
"Yazdan is here" Nahal said, not really using honorifics with him since she is not used to it. Nahal walked over to her sister and pulled her into a hug. Aanabia hugged her tightly and let her tears fall.
"I'll miss you"
"I'll miss you more"
"Can't you come with me?"
"Someone has to look after mom"
"She can come with us" Nahal laughed at Aanabia's words. But I am serious.
"Come on, he is waiting downstairs"
Aanabia stood up and heaved a deep breath.
Time to leave. Leave everything behind.
