chapter 8; breakfast and banter
Harry's POV
No one can know about what happened last night.
There was no sex, just a lot of kissing.
It's not like it meant anything; we were drunk.
Although, that doesn't take away from the fact that I really like Malfoy.
As I walk into the Great Hall for breakfast, I spot Hermione, Luna and Lavender (with Teddy sitting in her lap) sitting together at the long table one away from the wall, chatting casually. I go over to them and sit down next to Lavender, noticing large bags under her eyes and a deep scratch going across her face, starting at her right temple, stretching across her nose and ending just before her jaw. Her hair is wild and her voice is hoarse but she seems cheerful all the same.
"Morning, Harry." The three girls smile as I sit down.
"Morning." I turn to Lavender as Teddy clambers into my lap. "Thanks for looking after him. He's a handful at the best of times, I can't even imagine what he was like last night. On top of everything else, it really can't be easy."
She smiles, "Harry, it wasn't any trouble. He was restless before the transformation and of course the transformation itself was horrible but after a few minutes he went to sleep. Nobody came near him or me seeing as I was with him the whole time. There was a sense of calmness and the only injuries anyone got last night were self inflicted. He did good rather than harm." Lavender smiles and looks down at Teddy, ruffling his hair, "Teddy's welcome any time!"
After a few minutes of general conversation between Hermione, Luna, Lavender and I (with Teddy babbling short words here and there), a hand reaches around my shoulders and tickles Teddy under the chin, making him giggle.
"Hello, Draco."
"Hey, Luna." He smiles at her. "Have any of you seen Pansy or Ash?"
Hermione moves her head in the direction of the long table next to the wall.
I spot Parkinson and Zabini sitting together.
"As for Ash, I have no clue. I've not seen them since yesterday."
He shrugs, "Oh well. I'll stay with you guys for a bit if that's alright."
I take note of how hot my cheeks have grown as Malfoy sits next to me. I also take note of how close he is to me (our legs are touching yet there is more than enough space for him to sit without that being the case).
"Are you okay, Harry? You've gone red." Hermione asks.
"Fine!" I reply a little too quickly, "I'm fine!"
"Are you sure?" Luna joins the conversation, "You do look rather flustered."
Malfoy says nothing and without looking I can tell there's a smirk plastered across his smug face.
After a while, Lavender leaves to sit with her other friends.
"Hi everyone!" Ash grins as they settle down next to Hermione. Their long, blonde hair reminds me of a bear's ears; tied in two messy buns at the top of their head, one on either side. They are wearing the same uniform as the girls. It is the same as the old uniform, but our robes now have the Hogwarts crest on them instead of our house and our ties are plain black.
"I see you've stopped jumping on top of Harry every chance you get."
It's Malfoy's turn to go red and for me to smirk.
Hermione looks extremely confused whereas Luna looks completely normal.
"It wasn't like that!" Malfoy shouts.
"Of course not." Ash giggles.
"Well, it's not like he was complaining."
My smirk turns into another blush, hotter than before.
Malfoy laughs as the bell rings and we all head to our lessons.
Draco's POV
History of Magic with Professor Binns the ghost.
Boring.
Boring.
Boring.
Potter and Finnigan sit at the desk in front of me and Blaise, Potter bouncing Teddy on his knee as the pair talk about their relationships over the years.
I can't help but listen; anything is better than Binns waffling on.
"Yeah, I think everyone liked her at some point. You were one of the few to date her." Finnigan says.
"True, true. Still, I'm way over that now." Potter says melodramatically.
Finnigan leans back on his chair, "What do you mean?"
"Well," Potter looks away from Finnigan, "I'm...well..."
"Gay!" Teddy blurts out.
"Yeah, that!" he says lightheartedly.
Finnigan smiles, "That means Ginny has no straight exes."
"Oh yeah!"
Potter suddenly changes his expression, "Wait, Dean's gay?"
At the mention of his name, Thomas turns around, "What was that, Harry?"
"You're gay?" Asks Potter.
"Maybe..." He winks at Finnigan who wiggles his eyebrows in response.
Potter stares at him in shock while I stifle a laugh.
Finnigan turns to face Potter again and says, "We're together," clearly amused.
Blaise suddenly speaks, causing Finnigan, Potter and me to all look at him in disgust.
Hatred is on his lips like poison as he spits the words.
"Fucking fags everywhere. They all band together. They should just kill themselves before I kill them."
I grab my wand and push it into Blaise's throat. He cries out in surprise and pain as I mutter a sharp stinging hex.
Blaise chokes for a few seconds and once he has recovered he lunges at me, throwing me backwards off of my chair. He punches my face, chest and stomach and I do my best to dodge some of the throws. Fighting back, I headbutt him and hear his nose break with a satisfying CRACK.
Professor Binns tries to intervene but we end up fighting inside of him, causing us both to shudder before resuming; throwing punches and kicks and scratches.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" A voice booms from the doorway.
Professor McGonagal stands there, fuming. "I only came here to collect Potter and Malfoy, I was not expecting to see this!"
I stand up and brush myself off.
"What do you need us for, Professor?" Potter asks.
She sighs, "You'll find out soon enough. Come along."
