Chapter 5: A Boy from a Cursed Temple
"Nii-Chan, Yukio. What are you two doing?" I asked, barging into their dorm room.
Lucky for me, Mephisto didn't mind me staying in the same, abandoned, dorm with the two of them. I even have my very own room, all to myself. It's pretty sweet.
I strolled in and plopped into a chair and faced my brothers. Today is a day off, we've had a pretty shaky few days, but we've managed to stabilize. And today is our first day off so we can do whatever we want.
Huh? "Are you going somewhere Yuki?" I asked my younger brother. He's putting on his jacket that all the Exwire instructors have. "A request came in. I'm also going supply shopping. I don't think it'll be that long."
A request? Rin and I shared a look before looking back at him. "A request . . . you mean for an Exorcism?" Rin asked him.
Yukio turned his way and nodded. Rin and I quickly got up and rushed in front of him, startling him a bit. "Then let me go with you!" Rin grinned cheekily.
I nodded my head rapidly in agreement. "Me too! Me too!" I cheered happily. "What?" Yukio didn't look thrilled by our enthusiasm.
Rin placed his hands on his hips. "I'll learn a lot watching up close than I ever will from a book!" Rin explained, eyes closed and still grinning.
"Exactly! Some things are better learned through experience." I backed up my older brother.
Yukio sighed, turning to face us. "But Nii-San, Nee-San, you two are still just Page's." I blinked, tilting my head to the side.
"I'm not a book Yukio. I'm a human. See." I waved my arm a bit to show I had limbs instead of pages.
Yukio sighed, shaking his head. "Not page, 'Page'. That's a trainee. Something you'd know if you paid attention in classes." He chastised.
Huh? Really? "Trainees aren't allowed to go into the field." Yukio told us simply.
Rin frowned at that. "I'm already field-tested, remember? Who needs anyone's stinkin' permission?" He demanded.
Yukio stared at us a bit. "You have a point. Alright, as long as you're only observing."
My face lit up. "Alright!" I cheered. Yukio turned his gaze to me. "Nee-San, you can't come along." He deadpanned, making me fall. "Eh?! Why not?!" I shouted in irritation.
He just kept his Yukio stare. "Nee-San, your grades are worse then Nii-San's. That's sad. Besides, you're different from him, and you don't have the same knowledge as me. It's better if you stay here."
"What?! That's not fair!" I complained, not liking this.
Yukio walked over to his desk and pointed at the giant stacks of papers and books. "If you get through all this, then you can come on the next one. Until then, you need to study."
I turned to Rin for backup, but he gave me a two-finger salute, a smug look on his face. "Make sure to study properly."
The two turned and began to leave. "Huh?! You're the last person I need to hear that from!" I'm only a little worse than him.
But alas, my brothers ignored me and left me behind. "You traitors!"
~
The next day, I showed up a little late to Exwire Classes. The reason is simple. I just woke up twenty minutes ago.
I slept all through my normal classes. Whenever Yukio hears about that I'm in for an earful, but it's his fault.
I worked all the way into morning on those damn worksheets he made me.
I quickly bursted through the door. "Sorry I'm late! Huh? You're new." Next to Yukio is a girl wearing a kimono with short blonde hair and pretty earthy green eyes.
Yukio sighed, giving me a disapproving look. "You're late. Take a seat." I turned, heading towards the table with Rin. "Yes~."
Once I sat down, I noticed Rin staring at the girl in surprise. Huh? "This is your new classmate, Moriyama Shiemi." Yukio introduced.
The girl quickly bowed. "I-It's a pleasure to meet you all." She greeted, stuttering a bit.
Awe, she's so adorable! The girl stood up and settled in the other seat next to Rin. "What-what's going on?" Rin muttered in confusion.
The girl is shaking a bit, and forcing a concentrated look on her face. "Well, since I don't know about the world, and I'm so weak, I thought I'd train at this cram school. So I asked Yuki-Chan-I mean Okumura-Sensei, to get me in." She answered, trying to keep up the adorable facade she's attempting.
"You know you're shaking. Are you okay?" Rin asked her.
I laughed, leaning forward so I could get a better look. "You're funny. I like you Shiemi." I declared, startling her.
I grinned cheekily. "The names Okumura Fuyuko. But you can call me Yuko." I introduced myself.
She smiled timidly, but then here eyes widened. "Eh? Okumura? Like Rin and Yuki-Chan?"
My grin grew at that. "Yep. You're looking at the third triplet. I'm Yukio's big sister and Rin's little sister. Middle child life~!" I told her.
Her eyes are wide with wonder. "That's kind of incredible." She admitted, making me giggle. "Right? Anywho, it's a pleasure to be friends with ya."
Her eyes went wider and she blushed a bit. "Eh? Really?" She asked, not quite able to keep up with my pace. "Of course."
She seemed rather pleased and looked down a bit. "I can't believe you made it here." Rin admitted.
I frowned, swatting his arm. "You have no room to say anything." He turned to shoot me a look. "Shut up Yuko!"
Shiemi didn't seem to mind and smiled brightly at him. "That's thanks to you, Rin.Thank you from the bottom of my heart!" Rin's face flushed. "Huh? Well, hey . . .I didn't really . . ."
Oh? I see. Interesting. "Besides." She turned her attention to Yukio who is writing some nonsense on the board. "I wanted to see Yuki-Chan as a teacher!"
Huh? Is that so? "Oh, so that was the real draw." Rin sighed a bit.
Well, well. What do we have here? Things are starting to get interesting.
~
A couple more days have gone by. And I'm kind of getting use to cram school. However . . . I am not looking forward to getting our tests back.
Well, I think I might have done better than Rin. He's been dozing off in classes all day today. Well, a lot any day really.
Luckily I don't ever get called on in classes. Score!
Rin hasn't been as lucky though. But that's because he gets caught sleeping.
The bell chimed and Yukio picked up a small stack of papers. "Alright, I'm going to hand back your quizzes." Ghek.
My eye twitched. Oh no, oh no, oh no. While I'm pretty good in Demonology and am getting a little better in the other Exwire Classes, I don't understand a thing in Yukio's class.
Yukio began to call us one by one and I dreaded each passing second.
Yukio's going to scold me, I know it.
A cloud of doom surrounded me. Rin laughed nervously. "No good?" I laid my head on the desk in defeat. "No good."
Ah-ah. It was a good run.
"Hey, why are you so sparkly?" Rin asked Shiemi. She beamed, eyes sparkling, smile wide. "Because I know I did well." She said softly and happily.
Rin looked up, thinking of something. "Oh right. Your family is pharmacists, right?" She closed her eyes and nodded. "Yes. Specializing in Exorcism related products. So you could say it's my strong suit."
I clicked my tongue. "Tch. I should've cheated off of Shiemi."
Rin sweat dropped at my claim as my irritation built up. Yukio called Shiemi up next. He asked her what some odd names were she wrote down before handing it to her. I could just make out the red 41 on the top of the page.
"It's fine that you assign your own names to plants, but for tests please use their proper names." Shiemi deflated at that. "I will."
Rin put one hand to his mouth and laughed, pointing at her. "And you said it was your schtick."
I elbowed him roughly between his ribs, making him double over. Yukio called Rin next and I angled my neck a bit to peek at his paper. 2.
"Pft." I quickly slapped my hand over my mouth to stop any laughter from escaping.
Darkness surrounded Yukio, his temple throbbing and eyebrow twitching. "I think I have an ulcer." He said darkly. "Sorry Sensei." Rin muttered.
"Suguro." Yukio called next.
Ah. I glanced over at the delinquent looking boy who stood, heading over to grab his test.
Yeah, there's him. He's been glaring at Rin all week, since we got here. I'm surprised the two haven't duked it out yet.
As the two passed, Suguro looked over at Rin's paper. "I couldn't get a 2 even if I tried." He told Rin, hostility in his voice.
Rin glanced over at him as he continued walking towards Yukio. "It's because you're fooling around with those girls. You make me sick."
Jealous? Well, girls are probably afraid to go near you after all. "Huh? What did you say you rooster-head? You're the one who's fooling around!" Rin bit back at him.
Suguro grabbed his test from Yukio, a satisfied look on his face.
"Excellent work Suguro." Yukio commemeraded. Huh? Did he really get a good grade?
He showed Rin his paper and my own eyes widened at the red 98 written across the top. I've never seen such a high mark in person.
Well, There's Yukio, but I don't look at his grades. Makes me depressed.
Rin jumped a bit. "Wh-what the hell?! No way! How could a guy like you get a 98?!" Rin demanded, rushing over.
This angered Suguro. "Listen, I came to this Cram School cause I'm serious about earning my Exorcist Qualification!" He shouted right back.
Yukio nodded in approval of him. "Everybody else here is studying hard to become Exorcists! Someone clueless like you should just get lost!"
Ah. Well . . . I guess I never thought of their feelings. I'm only here because the headmaster told me to.
I don't really want to become an Exorcist. But I never really considered everyone elses feelings on becoming Exorcists.
I guess it's kind of insensitive.
But Rin wants to become an Exorcist. He's not disrespecting them.
At least not intentionally. "What the- who do you think you are, rooster-head? You may not believe it, but I'm trying to become an Exorcist too!"
The two went head to head. "What? But you're always dozing off in class!" Oh boy.
I quickly got out of my seat and ran over towards the two, placing my hands on their chests and pushing them apart a bit. "Now, now, let's calm down." I tried, smiling nervously.
The bald kid and the pinkette also rushed over. "Calm down, Bon." The bald one tried. "We're in class, Bon." The other said.
They grabbed him and pulled him away while Yukio and I pulled Rin away.
Both sides are struggling to hold theirs back. "Nii-Chan, calm down." I said, arms wrapped around his waist. Yukio's under his arms as we pulled him back.
Suguro pointed at Rin. "I've never seen you actually paying attention to any classes!" Rin's fierceness didn't falter.
"I'm an in-the-field kind of guy! It's hard for me to be chained to a desk memorizing stuff!" He shouted back.
Oh boy. "Suguro, you're absolutely right. Go on, tell him off some more." Yukio told him.
I shot him an annoyed stare. "You're not helping anything four eyes." I snapped.
That's only going to rile Rin up more and encourage the other one to continue on.
"Yukio! Whose side are you on anyway?!" Rin pulled away from us to glare at our younger brother.
His smile remained, but a dark look passed over his face. "Let's see, whose do you think?" I sighed, shoulders slumping. This is just terrible.
Before anyone could shout anymore, the bell chimed, signalling the end of class. "Time's up. That's all for today, class."
~
Rin, Yukio, Shiemi and I sat on the fountain outside. I sat next to Rin on the higher part while Yukio and Shiemi sat on the first by us.
"What's up with that guy? So he's smart?" Rin grumbled, still upset over the incident with the delinquent looking guy.
It's understandable I suppose. "Suguro Ryuji? He's quite the prodigy. He's attending this school on a scholarship, just like me." Yukio explained, a small smile on his face.
"Eh? Another nerd?" I asked thoughtfully.
Yukio gave me a flat look. "Nee-San, you really shouldn't be the one to call people nerds if you get worse grades then Nii-San." I nearly fell at that.
Yukio closed his eyes, facing forward. "From what I hear, he's the heir to an honorable and historic temple in Kyoto."
Eh?! An heir? So I guess his appearance is rich kid teenage rebellion. "Oh, so he is a little rich kid." Rin mused, kicking his feet a bit.
"He's an exceptional student, an accomplished athlete, and he's extremely attentive during class. At the very least, he works harder than you Nii-San. You should follow his example, maybe clone his whole mind if possible. You could use it too, Nee-San."
I frowned at that. "I don't want the mind of a rebellious boy." I pouted a bit.
"Clone his whole mind? That's going a little too far . . ." Rin murmured, thinking about it.
Yukio glanced over to Shiemi. "Anyway, I wanted to ask you. Shiemi, are you getting used to school?" He asked her. Hm.
I examined the two carefully as they spoke. "Oh, um, not at all yet." She admitted shyly.
"Well, I'd say that you look a lot more positive than you did before. You're almost a different person. Try not to get anxious, just do your best."
Shiemi smiled and nodded "Okay! Thank you, Yuki-Chan!" Interesting.
I leaned down between them, throwing an arm around Shiemi. "Don't worry. She has me." I grinned cheekily. Yukio smiled lightly and stood.
"That's what worries me." He teased. I immediately frowned at that. "Eh? Why are you so mean to your Onee-Sama?"
He chuckled and began to head off. "Well, I've got another class to teach, so don't be late for your P.E. class you three!" He called as he headed off. "See you later." Shiemi and I called after.
That just leaved the three of us. Rin blushed, seeing he's the only male left with Shiemi.
Hm. Should I leave? "Um, which class are you in again?" Rin asked before I could leave.
Shiemi looked up at him curiously. "Not Cram School, I mean high school." He clarified.
She smiled, shaking her head. "Well, I only asked to get into the Cram School."
Hm? Only Exwire? "Then what about regular school?" I asked her, slightly intrigued. "Oh, I'm too shy for that. I barely went to my classes in junior high."
I see. She's kind of like the softer version of rin.
"Hey, I hardly went to class in junior high either. I just didn't fit in there, see." He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head.
It was silent for a second. "Rin, Yuko." Hm? We looked over at her at her words. "I don't really belong in this Cram School, do I?" She asked.
She has no self confidence does she? "Huh? Why?" Rin and I asked simultaneously.
She looked off, a faraway and sad look in her green eyes. "Well, my goal isn't really to become an Exorcist. And I'm not smart like Suguro."
She really shouldn't compare to others. "Well, sure, having a brain like that doesn't hurt. But I think the world's better off being filled with different kinds of people." Rin said, trying to make her feel better. "Do you have any friends Rin?"
I blinked once.
Twice.
Three times.
"Huh?" She stood up and quickly grabbed his hands, looking into our eyes. "Um, you see . . . Rin, will you . . ."
Rin turned a deep shad red and I cringed, wanting to not be in the way of this grave misunderstanding.
"Well, well." A loud, cocky, familiar voice interrupted. "Look at you making out in broad daylight. In front of your sister no less."
I turned around to see the trio walk over. "The-the-the-the hell we are dammit!" Rin roared, turning fast.
The three stopped in front, looking up at us. The only one of them that's actually doing this talking is the delinquent wannabe himself.
"So who is she? Is she your woman? You have some pull to be able to bring her along to one of the leading Exorcism Cram Schools."
"Listen, I told you- you have the wrong idea about us!" Rin shouted at him again. "The what are you? Just friends? Huh?"
This guy sure is persistent. What's his deal? "Sh-she's . . . not my friend." Rin said, not sure how to respond. Suguro had a smirk on his face. "Huh? I get it now."
This guy is seriously getting on my nerves. "Dammit! Like you don't always have your crew hanging with you! Sticking with your own kind, how lame is that?!"
Suguro's face had a mix of anger and shock. Looks like he hit the nail on the head.
I frowned and stood, placing my hands on my hips. "Green isn't a good color on you Ryuji. If you want a girlfriend that bad, you gotta work at it. Maybe glare less."
I hopped down, walking over and poking his forehead. "You have frown lines. You should smile more. And maybe not scowl as much either." He shot me a look, slapping my hand away.
I grinned cheekily. "Girls don't like cocky attitudes. Ry-u-ji~." He looked angry and embarrassed at once.
Kind of adorable.
The pink haired boy turned quickly and laughed, making Ryuji shoot him a glare.
"What are you laughing about Shima?!" He shouted at his laughing friend. "Well, I was thinking that what they said is true." He explained, still laughing.
"What's the big idea agreeing with them?" He turned back to Rin and the two growled at one another.
Their glares are so intense, clashing fiercely with one another. I stood with the two boys and Shiemi off to the side.
"A tiger and a dragon are battling." I stated, pointing at them.
Shima nodded in agreement with me. Hm.
I jumped between the two, my arms wrapped around both. "Wha!" They shouted.
I laughed. "C'mon you guys. Make peace not war. Also, P.E. is about to start."
I hopped off them and pointed at the clock in the courtyard. "Ahh!" Everyone shouted and rushed off.
~
I whistled lowly. "They're really going at it." I commented.
Right now we're in this weird room. I sat above with everyone else as Rin and Ryuji ran from a giant frog demon.
This is what we're supposed to be doing today. Practical training they say. Well, not like we're in any danger. The teacher has the frog chained up and under control. But a race, huh?
Well, seems interesting enough.
"Okay class, this is not just a footrace, understand? The goal is to get you conditioned to demons movements! Try to pin down the Leaper's movements!" The teacher shouted from his place in the center above the arena below where the boys are running.
"Bon's a pretty fast runner, so good for that kid keeping pace." Shima said.
I frowned a bit. "Huh? Nii-Chan is the most athletically fit person I know. I'm surprised Ryuji can keep up with him." I said.
Rin is the best at the physical. And he's obviously winning. Word it right
Rin said something to Ryuji that obviously annoyed him. So Ryuji took a shortcut to catch up with Rin and kicked him down. "Hey! That's playing dirty!" I shouted down at him.
What a cheap shot. Ah. "Behind you!" I shouted.
In his midst of glory, he had stopped long enough for the Leaper to pounce on him. But before the demon could reach him, the teacher yanked the lever on the chain, pulling it back.
Poor froggy. I don't really like this. But it's a requirement for class.
"What do you think you're doing? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?!" He scolded the boys.
Both of them are panting quite a bit. They were more intent on beating one another than anything else. Idiots.
The two exchanged words before going at one another to fight. Jeez. Don't they ever get tired?
Shima and Konekomaru rushed down to restrain Ryuji.
I rushed down to help the teacher restrain Rin. "Nii-Chan! Calm down." I urged, pulling him back as he and Ryuji growled at one another.
"Seriously! I don't believe either of you!" The teacher scowled.
Shima smiled nervously as he continued to hold Ryuji bach. "Sorry." He apologized for his friend.
Once the two settled down a bit, the teacher sighed and pulled Ryuji aside.
Rin glared after him. "What's up with him?" He demanded, lip curled back in anger.
Shima laughed nervously. "Sorry about that. Bon is so serious, he can be really inflexible. Since he did get into this school with huge ambitions."
Huh? "Ambitions?" Rin and I asked simultaneously.
Shima smiled, placing his hands on his hips. "Bon wants to defeat Satan - so he's studying to become an Exorcist." I couldn't help but tense at the mention of his name, and so did Rin.
An image of dad possessed by Satan flashed through my mind before the image of his corpse on the broken church floor.
Defeat Satan . . . huh? I guess his and Rin's goals are the same.
Rin's eye twitched, realizing it as well and immediately disliking that they are the same in that sense.
Shima mistook Rin's look as ridicule for Ryuji's ambition and laughed. "See? Makes you laugh, huh?"
"I wouldn't say it's funny, definitely different though." I mused, crossing my arms over my chest.
"That's true. Bon is so intense because he's determined to restore our temple, which fell into ruin because of the 'Blue Night'." Konekomaru explained.
What the? Rin and I exchanged curious glances.
"Blue Night . . . what's that?" Rin asked him. "Some kind of band?" I guessed. It wouldn't be a terrible name, that's for sure.
The two stared at us wide eyed. "What, you've never heard of it?! You two are one of the rare ones then." The two stared at us in wonder.
Is it that popular of a band? "The Blue Night happened sixteen years ago when Satan massacred the world's most prominent clergymen."
Eh? Satan? Sixteen years ago? "According to our own priest, on that night sixteen years ago, one by on the Exorcists suddenly started bleeding all over then died spouting blue flames from their mouths."
A shiver ran through my body as dad flashed through my mind again. I gripped my arm to stop myself from shaking from the memory.
"Blue flames being the symbol of Satan. Our priest, who was still in training at the time, huddled in a corner till dawn since he wasn't able to stand. After that night, our priest finished his training and took over the temple. But people were spooked that so many monks died there on the same day, so they stopped coming, including our parishioners. Next thing you know, people were calling it the 'Cursed Temple'." Shima told us.
A Cursed Temple? "Both Shima and I are apprentice monks at Bon's temple. We followed him to Exorcism Cram School hoping it would help restore the temple." Konekomaru said.
Shima glanced at Ryuji before us again. "Bon's got a full plate. You could say he's driven. So try to cut him a little slack, okay?"
Hm. "Boy from the Cursed Temple, huh?" Rin murmured.
I glanced back at Ryuji, so did Rin. I guess everyone's got a past that they're trying to run from. And in some cases, change.
Suguro Ryuji. Hm.
The teacher turned and clapped his hands. "Alright, moving on. Moriyama, Kamiki, and Okumura Fuyuko! You three are next."
Ah, I could use the exercise. The boys quickly made their way up as the other girls came down.
I haven't really talked to Izumo. She stays around Paku and seems kinda hard to talk to.
And I love Shiemi, but I wonder how she'll do in this exercise.
We lined up together as the teacher went back to the controls. "Ready. Get set. Start!" He pulled the lever, giving slack to the chain.
I grinned, raising my hand in the air as the two girls took off. "Okumura Fuyuko is taking off!" I cheered. Then I ran into a sprint.
See, I've always been fast. Faster than girls and boys alike. Sometimes faster than Rin, sometimes not.
But either way, I'm probably the fastest in this class with the exception of Rin.
The girls even had a head start on me and it took me twenty seconds to pull ahead of them.
The gap between us is great, but I was having fun with just running. I like it. For fun. I hate it competitively.
I glanced back to see the frog running after us.
Izumo is making good time, but Shiemi . . . she's another story.
She shouldn't run in that hakama first of all. "Wha!" She tripped, falling to the ground.
Uh-oh. I turned quickly and rushed their way. Before the teacher could stop the Leaper, I made it to Shiemi and plucked her up under one arm and spun, going around the frog.
I ran a bit before stopping behind it and setting her down. "You alright?" I asked her curiously.
She sighed in relief. "Y-Yes. Thank you Yuko." I grinned in response.
"How many times are you going to trip? And why are you the only one in a hakama?" The teacher asked, pulling the lever, making the frog sit.
"Um . . . these are the only clothes I have that are good for sports." She explained to him.
"That outfit was fashionable about 100 years ago, you know that?"
I pouted a bit at that. "Huh? But it's so cute! It's Retro Sensei! Retro! Besides you're not one to talk." I muttered the last part, but he still heard it.
His temple throbbed in annoyance. "Silence! Next Shima and Yamada!" The two slid down the slope as the girls headed for the ladder.
I glanced at the frog a bit. The metal collar on its neck sticks out like a sore thumb. It's . . . sad.
I shook my head and quickly went up. "Nii-Chan, that was fun." I beamed.
He smiled lightly and ruffled my hair. "You're like a dog Yuko, always wanting to go on runs." He teased. "Eh?! Am not!" I puffed a cheek out and pouted.
Geez. He's so mean.
A phone began to ring loudly. Huh? "Whose cell is that? In the middle of class?" Ryuji grumbled.
I glanced over at the teacher who picked up his cell. "Hello? This is he." Ryuji fell and I laughed nervously. I guess everyone is a little rebellious.
"What's the matter, honey?" Honey? What a weird teacher.
"Y-You mean right now? You really are a handful, my cute little kitty!" I sweat dropped.
What a weirdo.
But it seems kind of cute. Not him, but that a significant other calls you a cute little kitty.
He quickly hung up the phone. "Listen up! The rest of this class will be a study hall!" He called over at us.
"Eh?!" We all shouted. What the hell?
"Listen to me! Normally, the Leaper is a docile demon. Ut he has the annoying habit of reading people's emotions and attacking. Until I get back, you're not to go down to the field and you're to stay out of the range of the Leaper's chains! Got that?! Alright, that's it from me! I'm on my way! My cute little kitty!" He ran off.
Leaving us alone with a demon known to attack.
Is this school for real?
"Did you hear that? He said 'my cute little kitty'." Shima said as he and the other kid came back up.
I turned to them and moved my hands up like paws. "Nyaa~!" He laughed and grinned. "You do make a cute kitty Yuko-Chan."
I grinned excitedly. "Yay! I should have totally been born a cat." I said thoughtfully.
They're graceful, adorable, and can nap and play all day! Ah to be a cat. That is the dream. "Is that even allowed? Study Hall for P.E." Kamiki grumbled.
Ah. Ghek.
My favorite class turning into my least favorite. Study . . . no way!
"What the heck? And he calls himself a teacher? I thought that True Cross Academy was a sacred place of learning where only the highly motivated gathered."
Ryuji glanced back at Rin. "And the students aren't much better either!"
I sighed. Again? "Oh come on! You need to shut the hell up! How do you know that I'm not motivated?" Rin questioned him, annoyed.
Shima sighed as well. "I can tell by the way you act in class!"
Shima and I stood between the two, stuck in their argument.
"Here they go again." He said to me. I nodded, eye twitching. "Yeah. I'm kind of impressed. Where do they get all that energy to fight?" I wondered.
The two stared down one another. "Bon, you're being immature." Shima noted. Konekomaru walked over, grabbing his jersey nervously. "Please stop." He added onto it. "Back off, both of you! Just shut up!"
I frowned. "They're just trying to look out for you, there's no need to yell at them." I said, placing my hands on my hips.
Ryuji just glared at me. "You stay out of this! This is between me and Okumura."
I pointed to myself. "But I am Okumura."
His temple throbbed and he pointed at Rin. "That Okumura!" I shrugged my shoulders.
"You got to be specific here. There's two Okumura students and an Okumura-Sensei. That's the pain with last names, y'know? That's why I prefer to call people by their first."
He fell at my words and stood, annoyed. "Okumura Rin! This is between me and Okumura Rin! Are you happy now?!"
I looked up thoughtfully before closing my eyes and smiling. "A little, yeah."
Shima, Konekomaru, Shiemi, and Rin laughed nervously as Ryuji fell again.
He turned his attention back at Rin. "If you're telling me you're motivated, then why don't you prove it?"
Rin raised an eyebrow. "Prove it? How?" He asked, definitely calmer than Ryuji at this point.
Ryuji turned and pointed at the Leaper down below. "That. If you can touch it and return without getting attacked, you win!"
Huh? Isn't that a little childish? And that's coming from me. That's a little sad Ryuji.
"A Leaper will look into your eyes and try to read your emotions. Fear, anger, grief, jealousy, whatever it sees, you're dead if you waver and look away. Because that's when it'll attack."
He turned back to Rin. "If you're trying to become a true Exorcist, you wouldn't lose control of your emotions over a scrub like that. If you make it back here in one piece, I'll be glad to acknowledge that you're serious about this!"
Eh? But the whole thing isn't even serious in the least. "Wait, Bon!" Shima began.
Ryuji just pointed at himself. "Of course, I'll give it a shot too. Naturally I'll win. What's it gonna be? Make up your mind!"
Everyone stared at Rin, wondering how he'll answer.
"Huh, interesting. Sure I'll do it!" Everyone seemed surprised by his words. Ryuji smirked but it disappeared when Rin continued. "Is that what you thought I'd say? Dumbass." He said nonchalantly.
Pft. I turned, covering my mouth with my hand to stop from laughing.
His answer surprised Ryuji the most. "I'm not doing it. What if I got killed by accident?" That's true, but the real reason is to hide himself.
He can't draw the sword that's on his back. At least not in front of people. That's an instant death sentence.
And I can't afford to command demons in public either. That would be no bueno.
"And besides, I have the same ambition as you." Eh?! Rin don't tell them that! They'll get curious and you have always had trouble shutting that big mouth of yours!
"No way am I gonna risk my life over something petty like this." Rin said, hands in pocket.
"What the . . You told him, didn't you!" He shouted at his friends who held their hands up in defense. "Well . . ." They looked away, unable to face him.
They're also terrible at keeping their mouths shut as well it seems.
"Ambition my foot! You're just spooked, that's all!" Someone sure is a hothead.
And I though Rin was bad. "Say whatever you want." Rin's completely calm.
I've never seen a scene like this before. I took out my phone and took a shot. Have to document this.
Evidence so Yukio believes me.
This angered Ryuji, big shocker there. And he shook in rage.
"Every one of you . . . why don't you try to fight?! Aren't you bitter?! I'm gonna do it. You just stand there and watch!" He slid down the ramp to the field below.
"Ah! Ryuji!" I shouted. "Don't do it!" Rin shouted as well as the other two looked down worriedly.
"What the . . . is he serious?" Paku asked in wonder.
Izumo scoffed. "Oh, he's just gonna turn back right? This is so stupid."
I don't think he's the kind to turn his back though . . . Is he going to be okay?
He's a very angry person. He neared the Leaper, standing a bit in front of it. "I'm gonna become a real Exorcist and defeat Satan!"
Well he's got dreams, that's for sure.
To work hard all this time and get this far, even from a young age. And I thought Yukio was ambitious..
Izumo suddenly started laughing. "Jeez, what is he saying, that he's gonna defeat Satan? What is he, a child?" She laughed.
I shot her a look. She's got a real shitty personality. It's not funny. Someone's dream isn't something to be laughed at.
A person's dream is a precious thing.
The Leaper suddenly roared, seeing Ryuji's anger.
Izumo stood, hands flying to her mouth as Shima and Konekomaru stepped closer. "Bon!" They shouted.
Rin ran forward and leapt high into the air, landing in front of him.
I quickly jumped over and ran to the control tower where the teacher stood during class.
The Leaper bit Rin's torso, but I felt Rin's power as he commanded the demon unknowingly.
I felt his strong power. His command was clear, even to me. 'Let go'. That was incredible command. But I don't think he did it on purpose. I don't think he knew it'd work.
As the dust cleared, we saw the Leaper let go of Rin and stand in front, to which Rin placed his hand on his nose.
I pulled the lever, forcing the chains to pull the Leaper back a bit, out of range of them.
That could have been bad. "What do you think you were doing? Are you an idiot?" Rin said, staring at the Leaper coolly.
"Huh?" Ryuji asked, bewildered by what had just happened. "Listen up, and listen closely! I'm the one who's going to defeat Satan! Stay the hell back!" Rin declared.
Ryuji's seemed beyond confused, it's as if his eyes are spinning. "Huh? Wh-what . . . what the hell?" He stood angrily again. "Listen, you're the idiot! What if you got yourself killed?! And don't copy my ambition!" He shouted at Rin.
Rin merely shrugged. "Huh? I never copied anything. I'm the original." He said as if it was obvious.
"What do you mean 'original'? I'm the one who decided first, you idiot!"
A smile slipped onto my face as I watched the scene below.
"When, huh? What year, what month, what day, what hour, what minute, what second? How many times did the planet spin that day?" Rin questioned him.
Ryuji went up to Rin, head out towards him as he glared at his idiocy.
"What are you, a kid?" He asked him agitatedly. "Look who's talking!" They butted heads, pressing their foreheads against each other and growling at one another.
But it's different. "Looks like you broke the wall, Nii-Chan." I whispered to myself.
I grinned and hopped over the rail and landed on the two. They let out shouts as we fell to the ground, me on top.
I laughed. "Hey, hey! I wanna be friendly too!" I told them happily. They sat up, turning their glares to me.
"We're not friendly!" The roared in sync. I clapped my hands together gleefully. "Awe, you're even in harmony together! I want to be that way to. Alright, let's try it!" I urged.
I read their face and opened my mouth. "Quit it!" The three of us said.
I threw my hands in the air. "Yay!" I jumped to my feet and did a happy dance. The two sighed in defeat, heads drooping.
"What's with your sister?" Ryuji questioned Rin.
My brother merely shook his head. "I honestly don't know."
