Arc 0-Chapter 6: Magic and Monsters
After going over the plan, the four retuned to the mine's entrance ready to enact it. Many of them were nervous, though they wouldn't admit. Isaac himself felt worried, and a little sacred. This was his plan, and if it failed, he knew he would never forgive himself. With that said, it was time.
"Hey beasty! O-o-o-over here!" Grim called out, shuttering a little. The sound of the creature's steps shook the ground like last time. The thing emerged from the mine's entrance, facing Grim, Ace and Deuce, Isaac hiding in the shrubbery.
"Grrr... Leeeeaaaaave!!!" The monster growled.
"Ahh! It-it's coming!" The feline exclaimed.
"Remember the plan. Get it as far away from the mine as possible and distract it." Deuce reminds. The creature approaches, looking ready to strike. "Now! Over here, beast!" The blue haired boy provokes and they rush from the entrance, the monster follows and they began attacking it, this time together.
"That's my que." Isaac thought. With the monster distracted, he quickly slips past the battle and makes his way down into the mine. He reaches the area where they first ran into the creature and goes where he saw the shine. He notices the shine again, seeing something sticking out from the ground.
Isaac manages to dig up the crystal, finding in a clear blue with shades of red and green. He holds it up, swearing he felt an odd sensation from the crystal. It was surprisingly soothing, especially with his burnt bleeding hands.
Suddenly, he hears a loud crashing sound from outside the mine. It kinda sounded like when Deuce summoned that cauldron that dropped down on Ace. Ouch! That sounded like it hurt. It was then, Grim, Ace and Deuce all came rushing in.
"Awesome, man! You found a magic crystal!" Ace praises and Grim whoops.
"What happened to the monster?" Isaac asked, not seeing the thing anywhere.
"I summoned a cauldron and pinned it. So we decided to come down to check on you." Deuce answers. So that was a cauldron.
"Haaands... Offfffffff!" The monster growls, so loud they could hear it from inside.
"Crap! That thing is breaking free already?!" Ace exclaims.
"Hey, Deuce! Hurry! Throw some more stuff at it!" Grim tells the spade boy.
"Uhh, something heavy?!" The boy began to panic. "Come forth... cauldron!" The teal eyed boy exclaims, another cauldron appears, dropping on the monster. "And um... ummm! Another cauldron!" Another cauldron drops. "One more cauldron!" The boy says, dropping yet another cauldron.
"Dude, do you have nothing but cauldrons in your repertoire?!" Ace asks.
"Shut up! I'm at my wits' end here!" Deuce retorts.
"Who cares anyway? It worked didn't it?" Isaac intervenes. "Come on! Let's get out of here and back to the school before it manages to get up!" He says and they quickly make their way out of the mine and run towards the cottage again.
"That...is...miiiiiine!!" It growls.
"You gotta be kidding me?! It knocked off all that stuff and followed after us!" Ace said in disbelief.
"Stone... Give...it...baaack!" the monster growls and runs towards them.
"Shoot! It's gonna catch us at this rate!" Deuce exclaims.
"It's got to be weaker now. Maybe now you guys have a chance at beating it." Isaac suggests.
"Grr! Fine! Let's finish this then! Don't go letting me down, Mr. Serious!" The red haired boy says.
"Same to you!" The spade boy replies.
"I'll show off my true power!" Grim says, for lack of a better word, fired up. The three proceed to fight against the monster, while Isaac stays behind, watching and instructing them from the back.
"Dammit! We barely left a scratch on it!" Ace cursed while panting. Despite them throwing everything they had at it, the monster had not been harmed. Well, it did take some damage, but not enough.
"Stone...mine..." It growls as it approaches, pick axe raised.
"No!" Isaac shouted and steps forward.
"Stay back! It'll kill you!" Deuce shouts from his crouched position.
"Aw, man, we're in trouble!" Grim exclaims. The fighting left them tired and exhausted of magical power.
"No... No... Get..." Isaac thought, he felt his blood boil as he watched the monster prepare to strike them. He began breathing hard, feeling his adrenaline spike.
"Grrr... Roar!" The monster roars, and swings its axe at them.
"Get away from them!" He shouted. Then a in a blur, the monster was hit by something knocking it back with a growl.
"Holy shit, man! What just happened?" Ace asked shocked.
"I don't know. Wait, is that...?" Deuce says then trails off asking.
"Huh? What are you--Woah! Isaac! What happened to your hair! It's gone white!" Grim exclaims, then he and the others gasped as the boy turns to face them.
Isaac now stood in front of them, but now his dark black hair has turned platinum silver, his previously dark eyes have now become bright gold, his fingernails have turned black and sharpened to claws. Lastly, from his mouth and lips sprout sharp fang-like canines.
"Wh-whoa! Dude, what happened to you?! You changed!" Ace exclaims.
"Huh?" Isaac said confused, then noticed his nails. He checks his hair and looks like he starting to panic. "No! No! No!" In fact he was panicking when he realized his changed appearance.
"C-calm down, I'm sure it's not serious." Deuce tries to console as he approaches the other boy.
"No! Don't look, please!" The boy says, covering his face and turning away. "No! This can't be happening. I didn't want you, anyone to see." He mutters.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Ace asks, only to be cuts by a familiar roar.
"Gyah! It's coming back!" Grim exclaims as the monster comes running back.
"Argh! I've had enough of you!" Isaac curses, then faces the monster again as it raises it axe at him. "Put a sock in it already!" He shouts and strikes the monster head on. What looks like electricity spark as the monster screeches as its literally reduced to rumble.
"Shit!" He realized what he'd done and turned to see the others all shocked into silence. Even Ace, the loud mouth who always had something to say, was quiet.
"D-dude! What was that?! You annihilated that monster?!" Deuce exclaims.
"Wait, that hair, and those fangs, it can't be... Isaac, are you a, a vampire?!" Grim exclaims and the said boy flinches.
"What?! Seriously?! A vampire? Come on, man. That's ridiculous." Ace, having snapped out of his silent stupor, finally says. "Isn't it?" He added.
"No, he's right." Isaac spoke and they turn to him. "I am a vampire." He confirms. It was once again silent, before Grim broke it.
"No way! An actual vampire! And judging by your hair and eyes, does that mean you're also a pureblood! This is amazing!" He exclaims.
"So that power earlier, wasn't magic but the power of a vampire then. I have heard that while vampire's don't use magic, they have natural abilities." Deuce mutters to himself.
"Okay, that was pretty cool, just don't bite." Ace admits then says nervously.
"I assure you, I won't. My lips, on your neck... bleh!" Isaac replies. "You know, you guys are taking this surprisingly well." He comments.
"Why not? You just saved us, didn't you?" Deuce says.
"Yeah, and you aren't attacking us now, so that's a plus." Ace adds.
"Plus, I've always wanted to meet a pureblood! This is awesome! I can't believe you let me think you were just some dumb human!" Grim cheers.
"I never said I was human, you just assumed I was." Isaac replies back.
"Huh? But you were human at one point." Ace says.
"No, I was born a vampire. I was never human." The, now platinum, haired boy replies back and the red haired boy looks shocked.
"What, seriously?!" He exclaims.
"Yeah, you dummy. Grim just said he's a pureblood. Meaning he's been a vampire since birth." Deuce says.
"But, you do have human blood right." Ace asks and Isaac gives him an annoyed look. Which was made pretty intimidating by his current appearance.
"Don't you get what pureblood means? It means his is only from a bloodline of vampires. No human at all." Grim explains.
"What? Then how did he look human before?" Ace questions.
"High class vampires can camouflage themselves to appear more human." Deuce answers. "It's not like it's common knowledge, and any knowledge on vampires is little at most." He adds.
"Hang on, if you really are a vampire, and a pureblood at that, then that means you weren't in danger of the fire at all!" Grim exclaims.
"What?!" Ace exclaims next.
"Yes, the fire did actually hit me, but fire doesn't have any effect on me, even magical fire. That's how I came out unscathed." The vampire boy explains.
"Seriously?" The red haired boy sighs.
"So even Grim's fire has no effect, then. Fire can be used against lower class vampires, but it's useless against high class vampires. Doesn't even leave a mark on them." Deuce explains.
"Okay. Well, that monster's gone and we got the crystal, so now we can head on back?" Ace says. "You know, I hate to admit it, but we wouldn't have gotten the crystal if it wasn't for your brilliant plan back there." He compliments Isaac. That was, admittedly weird, coming from him of all people.
"True. We managed to get the crystal thanks to your intuitive instructions. Now we can prevent expulsion. Thank goodness." Deuce says, then sighs in relief.
"Well, glad everything turned out fine then." Isaac replied.
"Yeah, yeah. We're all relieved. But also seriously worn out and battered. We need to head back." The red haired boy says.
"Uh... Yeah, I'm starving from using so much magic... Hm? What's that?" Grim groans then asks as he floats down and picks up something from the ground. It kind of looked like an onyx or obsidian stone.
"Remnants from that monster?" Deuce suggests. "It looks like a magic crystal, but... I've never seen one pitch black before. It almost looks like coal." He says.
"Hey... This thing smells really good..." The feline says while sniffing the rock.
"What? Seriously?!" Ace voices his thoughts.
"This has to be candy that the monster was hiding!" Exclaimed the raccoon-cat.
"I, highly doubt that, Grim." Isaac says then winces and holds his nose. "Ulgh! And there's a really ash like smell coming from it, I think you should just drop it." He says, but the cat wasn't listening.
"Ooooh! I can't hold back! Time to dig in!" The feline ignored him and proceeded to swallow the thing whole.
"I can't believe he actually ate it." The platinum haired boy thought, while letting go of his nose, and suddenly Grim gasps. Uh oh...
"Hey, you alright?" Deuce asked.
"Oh boy... that's why you shouldn't eat things off the ground." Ace groans.
"De...d-d-d-delicious!" The cat suddenly exclaimed. Was he serious? Both Ace and Deuce agreed as they gasped in shock. "It's full-bodied, but also rich with a kind of aromatic sweetness that blooms in my mouth... Like an entire field of flowers!" He described. Okay... Dang it! Now Isaac was hungry. Crap! He was hungry!
"Bleh! Monsters really do have different taste buds from humans." Ace says.
"I guess so... but more than that... Most people wouldn't put a mysterious object in their mouths without thinking." Deuce says. He had a point.
"I'm guessing monsters like him will eat anything." Isaac theorized.
"Gahahahaha! Tasty! Tasty!" Grim cheered while laughing and dancing in the air. "Don't worry, my stomach isn't weak like yours." He said to the three humans.
"Don't come crawling to me when you get sick later." Ace tells him.
"Switching gears here, let's head back to give the crystal to Headmaster Crowley." Deuce says.
"Yeah, I'm just as exhausted, more emotionally than anything." Isaac says as he pulls up his hood and stuffs his hands in his pockets.
"What are you doing?" The heart boy asks.
"I'd rather not draw attention to myself, and my hair and eyes certainly will." The vampire boy replies.
"Can't you just turn back to your human state?" Ace asked.
"I'm trying! But I'm too tense and nervous okay!" He replied, then sighs. "I change into this form whenever my emotions run high, and I can't turn back until my system settles, but I'm having a hard time calming down." He explains and admits.
"Fair point, hopefully you'll settle when we get back. With that, let's get going." The spade boy says next, then they were all enveloped by a bright light and things went suddenly fuzzy.
