Interview- PrairieCreek

PrairieCreek is the author of 2 published books on Wattpad. Her book Prairie Creek won a place in the genre chicklit. I absolutely loved her work personally. The author wrote everything to perfection and had so many creative ideas. It was a true honor for me to interview her ❤️

What makes your book unique?

I set out to write a simple romance and ended up with something much more complex. One of my characters speaks with a heavy dialect. Two are mute snd use American Sign Language, which is "interpreted" by their brother. Most of his interpretations are off-the-wall humorous or just excuses for him to say what he wants passing it off as his brothers' words. :) and now I'm 18 chapters in, and haven't even gotten to the main romance.

What words would you use to describe yourself as an author?

This is a tough one. I'd say "immersed" because when I write, I like to have huge chunks of time where no one bothers me. (Like, days on end-but that's no longer possible. So I have to settle for hours. LOL.) I get so immersed in my story that *it* seems real-and my real life seems unreal. But then I'm hit with the reality of stacks of dirty dishes and laundry and certain family members complaining of hunger and I snap out of it pretty fast. LOL

What are your favorite book genres?

I am a sucker for genre romance, though I'm usually disappointed in the characters actions. I keep reading them, though, hoping to find gems in the trash (and I occasionally do!) I'm also a fan of the classics, from Jane Austen to L.M. Montgomery, from Charles Dickens to Mark Twain. And of course C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, and J.K Rowling. I've read the occasional mystery and thriller, and even delved into non-fiction, such as "Unbroken" and "Philomena."

On Wattpad, I search for interesting books in the General Fiction, Chicklit, and Romance categories, but due to a club I'm in, I've been sampling quite a bit of Science Fiction and Fantasy, too. I'm even reading a sort-of Vampire story, something I didn't think I'd like at all (but so far I do)

What's an interesting fact we might not know about you?

I'm a foster mom. I've studied the effects of neglect, abuse, and trauma on young children and how that impacts them into adulthood. This is why so many of my characters come from horrific backgrounds and have unresolved issues.

How often do you write?

I would love to write daily, but unfortunately people around here think they need those clean clothes and dishes , and a hot meal once in a while. Seriously, though, I'm hoping once my daughter goes back to school I'll have more time to write what I want. I'll also take a break from the review club, since that currently takes up a lot of my reading/writing time.

What's the hardest part of writing in general?

The hardest part is finding the right words to assemble into coherent sentences. I've usually rehearsed each scene multiple times in my head, so I know what happens. Copying down the dialog is easy. I just have trouble figuring out how to describe the scene and actions around the dialog. I can agonize for hours over how to phrase a sentence.

How would/ do you respond to hateful comments?

I've been lucky that so far I haven't had to deal with hateful comments. Depending on what was said, I'd either ignore it or make a neutral (or maybe humorous) comment back. If I was being harassed, I'd delete the comments, mute them and report them to Wattpad. Life is too short to let negative ninnies occupy space in my head. On the other hand, I do welcome constructive criticism.
