What are we really?

The sweet scent of gardenias, primroses, and wisteria entered Weiss' bedroom window as the new summer breeze brought it in. The pages of the journal in her hand ruffled with the breeze flowing in her room. Weiss looked up and met eyes with Ruby who watched her from her windowsill, a small smile on her lips.

"What?" Weiss asked, wondering what on this Earth was Ruby staring her at for.

The huntress shrugged with a little smile on her lips before turning away and leaving Weiss to continue her reading but, that's not what she wants her to do. How were they supposed to get better with each other? After breaking Weiss' trust...It was going to be hard to gain it back again. They were fragile, like a wound freshly cut.

Other than the distant sounds of the city, their night in the home was quiet and peaceful. Ruby thought of things they can do during the break since the semester is over but the impending danger that someone might target them for the death of Adam Taurus is not helping her think.

"You've been reading your family's journals for weeks now, Weiss. Perhaps you should take a break." Ruby suggested with a soft voice. Weiss looked up at her with slight disbelief in her eyes.

"I have been trying to figure out what...who in our line knows what to do with these powers. I don't know how to use them and you've seen what I can do--" Weiss replied, her voice slightly shaking as the thought of her killing someone with her magic slowly made her terrified once more.  The color of life she takes out of pure rage, watching the life of a person leave their eyes--It's not something one can remove from their minds easily or ever.

Ruby got off the windowsill and took the heiress' hands off the books and in her own, kneeling beside her seat to give her as much comfort as she can give to her, to support as much as she is allowed to. "Hey, hey...Shhh...Breathe.." Ruby softly chided. "Breathe in~" Weiss shakily did as Ruby told her, taking her hands and holding them together. The brunette looked up in the girl's eyes to hold her attention, distracting her to whatever thoughts have invaded her mind.

"That's it, now relax...Breathe out." Ruby knew that this might not help at all but if there was a chance that it did, she wanted to at least try. Trying is better than not trying at all. After a while with Weiss, she has learned that every effort is recognized even if it fails or is simple. When you think Weiss wasn't looking, she does.

Weiss did a few breathing exercises but it was hard to remove the image. Red blood. Red tipped hair. Red blade. Red. That cursed color was going to haunt her for the rest of her life.

She opened her eyes and realized that she was staring at Ruby Rose closely that she can see the details in her eyes, how fluffy Ruby's lashes were, her skin so pale and smooth, her cheeks slightly pink, lips a little dry from sitting the window, her hair a little longer than when she first met her. This girl is the definition of red in every sense but how? How can she not be bothered by this?

Ruby has red all over her, she is the definition of the color itself. A vampire as a huntress, what can match better than that? But how come? How come she doesn't fear Ruby? How come her type of crimson was different from that one she has witnessed the other night?

Hers was the type of red you'll see with the dying embers of a fire, warm, the exact type that you will be delighted to see. Red, just like roses in summer, like sweet red wine that one can indulge in, and like love's furry and beauty. Weiss wasn't nervous with that side of the color which confused her.

The heiress has been staring at Ruby as her thoughts passed through like a train in a rush. Upon realizing that she was, she turned to the floor to avert her gaze and to hide her flushed cheeks. She's been avoiding talking or any kind of conversation with Ruby because she had quite some words she can tell her. It made her feel pathetic that she was afraid to talk to anyone after what had happened.

"I won't force you to talk or stick around to wait for you to do it, Weiss." Ruby declared, disappointment being hinted in her tone.

For an unknown reason, Weiss turned to the vampire to hold her hand in place, as if her body just wanted Ruby to stay and her brain just didn't want to realize that fact at all. Tears were welling in her eyes when she looked up to meet Ruby's. "Please, stay."

Why? What for? She doesn't have to because the heiress herself knew that she won't talk about anything unless provoked to do so. So why was she desperate to keep Ruby close?

"Weiss..."

"I-I know I can't get myself together and I can't think properly enough to know what to tell or ask of you." She told the huntress, her heart ready to burst. Weiss wanted to say so much but it was overwhelming her. It has been for days.

Her tears started falling, dropping like liquid crystals on her plush furniture. Ruby was startled and surprised to see Weiss cry in front of her. This cold-hearted heiress had spilled her tears behind closed doors with her and for her, a side of her that no one else has ever seen.

Ruby softly smiled and leaned in to rest her forehead on Weiss'. "You can tell me anything. No need to hold back, Princess."

Weiss sniffled, intertwining her hand with Ruby. "I'm scared. I don't know what to do and what would happen. My powers just get out of hand when I feel too much and when my emotions take hold of reason."

Ruby can't help but smile. This girl deserves credit for even thinking about people's welfare before hers. "You're one of the strongest ladies I know. You overcame so much even without me, you use your head to fix situations you're in, everyone in the team thinks you're one kick-ass heiress. What I don't understand is, why don't you recognize your strength?" The huntress asked, cupping Weiss' cheek, gently running her thumb over a tear.

"Dear Weiss, you try too hard to control your powers when in reality, you know it by heart. You wouldn't be able to do what you did the other night if you did." Ruby told her, smiling softly. "Trust yourself to know the right thing to do and the right way to do them. If that had worked for me, I'm pretty sure it will for you too." The huntress placed a soft kiss on Weiss' forehead which surprised the girl.

The heiress was astonished by the words Ruby was speaking to her right now. "Really? Do you think that would work? And...you flatter me too much. I'm not as great as you make it sound." She told her, sadly smiling up at the vampire in her company.

"Give yourself some credit. I'm telling the truth, you beautiful girl." Ruby assured and gave a kiss on Weiss' cheek.

Weiss has now flushed pink again, her tears had stopped from flowing. It seems that hearing those sweet words from Ruby made her cheer up. Hearing her encouragement was so sweet that she can't help but smile. "Sweet words from a vampire's lips. Should I believe it?" She mockingly asked.

Ruby chuckled. She stood up and pulled Weiss off the chair she had been residing in for hours. "See, you better listen to me on certain things. I am telling you the truth, what part isn't believable, hmm~?"

Weiss was pulled close by Ruby, the girl holding her by her waist, removing distance from their warm bodies. The heiress wrapped her arms around Ruby's neck and looked up at her. "See, you tend to do unbelievable things, Miss Rose." She told her. "You even play my heart around."

Ruby leaned in at Weiss' ears, holding her in a tighter hug. "Do I really~? Hearing that makes me sorta glad, you know."

"Sly snake, Miss Rose." Weiss shivered upon hearing Ruby's breath by her ear and neck. "You like playing with my heart?" She asked.

Ruby placed a soft kiss on Weiss' neck, taking in her cold and refreshingly sweet scent. "Think of it as me trying to win it, Miss Schnee."

Weiss cupped Ruby's cheek and made her meet her eyes, her hand cold on the huntress' cheek. For a long moment, she simply started into Ruby's silver eyes and studied their expression, what was in them and if she was telling the truth. "Are you really, Ruby? Do you mean that?" She inquired.

Ruby held Weiss' hand by her cheek and kissed her palm softly, her eyes turning to her with a soft gaze. "What if I told you it is? Are you welcome to the idea of me trying to?"

The white-haired girl can't help but melt from those words. If ruby had any idea at all, she would be surprised with her progress. "Haven't you been doing it? And...What if I told you you already won it over? What does that make us?"

Ruby can't help but smile from hearing those words escape Weiss' lips. She returned Weiss' hand on her cheek and adored the cold on her fingers. The heiress softly smiled at her with hope in her eyes. "What do you want to make of us?"

"I honestly don't know, Ruby. All this time, you hardly had to try. You're goofy, sweet, warm and beautiful. Smart and very caring. It makes me want to give us a chance." Weiss softly spoke to reply to Ruby.

"Then let's give us a chance. What's the issue if we did?" Ruby asked, kissing the top of Weiss' hand and holding her close once more with both her arms. She watched Weiss' eyes change expression quickly. She can tell she was worried, afraid and looking forward to it. Ruby waited for the girl to answer.

"I'm afraid." Weiss started. "I'm afraid that in the middle of it all, you'll stop liking me or I'll lose you in some other way. I'm afraid to gamble my heart, Ruby. I'm human and you're immortal. In between all that, there are other complications."

Ruby understood her worries very well. "It's my worries as much as it is yours. We won't know if we don't try, Weiss. I know there's something between us already~" She told her, a reminder that it might weigh something against their worries.

Weiss knew that it won't be easy but...what if she finds love with her? What if she's her fated, even if their circumstance was so twisted? Would she refuse it all before it even started knowing that there's a chance?

"Then, I'll gamble with Love." Weiss said, giving her word to Ruby. She kept her eyes on the huntress, giving her a sweet smile. "Let's try our hand, shall we~?"

Ruby chuckled. She always has adored how Weiss had her kind of craziness and bravery to her. It was very charming and she adored her for it~

"It's gonna be a hard game but I'll be with you in it, Princess~" Ruby agreed with a grin.

Weiss leaned close to give Ruby a soft kiss on her lips to which the huntress reciprocated. Their soft and sweet kiss deepened, Weiss pressing closer, Ruby holding her tighter. The night was chilly but turned warmer. Maybe they were more compatible than they thought they were.

Weiss gently nibbled on Ruby's lower lips, smiling into their kiss. They pulled away, laughter escaping their lips after.

"I believe I just got myself a girlfriend." Ruby declared with glee.

"Oh, best believe you did, Miss Rose~" Weiss taunted, pulling away from her new girlfriend's arms and walking out of her study. "Come on, I'm hungry. Let's get food before going to bed."

Ruby followed her out of the room, taking the last words. "We're going to sleep? But the night is young and I have yet to know you know more in bed."

"Ruby Rose!"
