Two Steps Back
Ruby looked up at Weiss in horror.
How can she kill someone like her? Someone who had done nothing but treat her kindly while the world knows she's an abomination? Why would Weiss even think that? What kind of sick twist is it that her dreams coincide with her own?
"Y-You can't be serious." The silence Weiss gave her was enough to confirm that those dreams were as she told.
Death in her hands, over and over again. Could it be possible that this was her curse instead? To have someone she loves die to her fault? But why? She suffered long in a cold prison alone, forgotten.
She knew Destiny has something for them the day Weiss set her free, the moment she laid eyes on Weiss. But dying in her arms was not something she wanted to happen. Her dream and own are too similar. Too close. It's not far away from being true.
Weiss looked away from Ruby with despair in her eyes. Once her eyes laid on the room, her breath hitched, her heart beating fast in fear.
"What have I done..." She whispered to herself as she saw the destruction she has brought upon the room. Everything coated with ice. Everything frozen.
Ruby was still reeling herself in when Weiss saw the room. "You must have used your semblance in your sleep?"
"This isn't my semblance, Ruby. Creation from ice is my semblance, not destruction." Weiss wilted on her spot, looking down at her shaking and pale hands. "Is this...what our bloodline gave me?"
Ruby can't answer her. Nothing like this has happened to anyone she knew. Even her magic was nothing this strong in comparison. "I don't know, Weiss."
Silence fell around them as the room hummed with power from the cold. "I hate it."
Weiss slipped away from the bed, her feet touching the frozen ground. Crystallized and cold, the room was quiet. It felt like her room back in Atlas. Where she often spent a lot of time reading. Where she watched inside out as the ice of Atlas remain around their properties.
"I don't want it." She said picking up a frosted scalpel on a tray. As if she thought and willed it, the object defrosted and in hand. The scalpel glinted under the lights from the chandelier. "I have lived too long in the cold. I don't want to create it."
Ruby approached the girl and snatched the blade from her hand in case she wanted to harm herself. "It's a part of you now. No amount of magic can remove what has been your centuries and generations before you have been born."
Weiss looked up at Ruby, a pained look in her eyes. "Ruby the cold is cruel. Unforgiving. My family, the high society of Atlas-- Everyone around me knows this."
The vampire knows she can't take away that pain. That doesn't mean that the engraved mindset given to Weiss is unchangeable. Ruby can help her cope with it like her mother has helped her with her transition.
"You know, the cold is beautiful. Winter nights can be so nice with a loved one by the fire, snuggling. Winter brings people closer Weiss." Ruby pointed out, taking Weiss' hand in hers before pulling her in her arms. "The cold brought me closer to you."
The heiress didn't know what to do but stand in surprise as Ruby embraced her, warmth spreading around her. "You dolt, you sound too cheesy."
"You're warming up to me at least...~ " Ruby pointed out.
Weiss gave back the embrace and watched as the room unfroze and crept back to normal. She smiled. "It looks like it."
They pulled away after, their smiles staying as they did. It wasn't until then did Ruby hear someone running down the hall up to the main floor. Weiss must have heard it too if it made the girl break to a run.
"Who's there?!" She asked, running barefoot. Ruby went ahead and ran to catch the eavesdropper who is no other than Velvet.
Startled, the doctor pulled out a hard light dust copy of Gambol Shroud as a gun.
"No, wait!!" Weiss ran at the end of the hall where they were and removed the two from each other. "Velvet!"
"Miss Weiss! I went to check on you once I came from school but Ruby got there first and I saw the whole room frozen! Then next the room was back to normal! What is going on?" Velvet cried out demanding answers from the two.
Ruby forgot and was careless to think no one would find them at this hour there. Having a witness to their conversations were not good. Not for Weiss, not for her. She started to think of something to solve the problem.
Weiss bit her lip with furrowed brows while looking at Velvet, trying to think of what to say. "I trust Ruby with my life. You weren't supposed to see us, Velvet." Weiss frowned, trying to think of something to fix the issue in hand.
"I'll tell your father what I saw! Miss Weiss, something is wrong with you!" Velvet tried to step back but Weiss grabbed on to her hand to stop the Faunus from going anywhere. "Let go of me!"
"My father...will never hear about this." The heiress said with seething cold anger in her voice. Ruby shivered at the thought of what can Weiss do now that she awakened her abilities. It was going to be a losing battle to control it but she can prevent worse situations by interjecting early.
"Weiss, let me handle this," Ruby advised in a soft voice, taking the heiress' hand off the doctor. "Let's do a little magic."
Weiss recalled Ruby is more than a vampire. She almost forgot about her other abilities. Her skills in magic that doesn't go against nature. Witchcraft.
Ruby placed her hand on Velvet's forehead, her other hand holding on to her hand as for her not to go anywhere. Weiss removed her hold on the doctor and stepped away from the two to keep watch.
Ruby smirked and started chanting, making the doctor struggle in fear. With a small smile, she said "By the power of three, I clear the memories from thee. Let it go once, forget it--be free. The sight of magic, be wiped deep, and let it be lost. I remove it now, trickery be the cost. As I will it, so mote it be."
Thrice did Ruby repeat the chant and Velvet struggled less on each one of them. Once done, Ruby pulled away and took Weiss and ran up to the Grand Hall in front of the main door.
Weiss looked back from where they came from, wondering if it worked. "Will she be alright?" She asks, hiding her hands behind her back, wondering what might happen if she placed her guard down.
"Yeah, she'll be alright. She'll blink awake and wonder what she's doing there. Nothing painful." Ruby replied, smiling a little. "Uhm, are you feeling alright now?"
Weiss curled up her lips, eyes soft as she looked at the vampire."I am. Thank you for your help." She replied and took a step forward closer to Ruby who didn't mind. "I'd be in trouble if you didn't help me back there."
"You're afraid that your father will find out what you have now. He'll use you." Ruby concluded, Weiss nodding as she thought of the same. If her father finds out, Weiss will be nothing but a weapon for Jacques Schnee against his enemies. That shouldn't happen and never would Ruby allow that to happen. A vile man like Jacques may be powerful but his daughter is a force to be reckoned with.
Creation magic is powerful as is. Although Weiss may have had it as her semblance, things have changed overnight. Now it's not just her semblance.
Weiss bit her lip as she thought of the possible outcomes when people find out about her new abilities. Abilities she can barely control. The worst she could think of is his father controlling her tighter than ever before. She'll be a tool for the man.
Ruby stepped forward as she gazes at Weiss' state. Her eyes were keen and full of fear. She can't do anything but pull her in her arms to assure her. "Hey, you won't be found out. Your secret will be safe with me."
Surprised, Weiss froze as Ruby hugged her. She found herself holding on to Ruby as well, her handshaking. Her fears are horrible possibilities that might happen, afraid for her life.
But how can Ruby say so with such ease that she will be safe with her? How can she tell her with no assurance from the future that she's not going to be found by her father ad be used? Maybe that's what she likes about Ruby. The uncertainty she gives her makes her fear. Yet, a part of her looks forward to whatever happens tomorrow when the sun comes up.
Ruby pulled away and gave a small kiss on the heiress' forehead, warm and short. "I'll be your knight, princess. No one will harm you."
Her heart was beating so fast, Weiss knows that Ruby can hear it. Flustered and touched, she buried her face by the brunette's neck. "You say that line to all the girls you like?" She asked.
The vampire gave her a hearty laugh. "No, not at all. Just you, Weiss. Just you."
Weiss looked up at her, pouting. "I almost believed you, you dunce!"
Ruby pulled the girl closer, making Weiss more flustered than she already is. "You don't believe me? You hurt me, Weiss. I don't use pick up lines! Just you! Just now!"
"Ahh!! You annoying bloodsucker!" Weiss shrieked in frustration as she hid her face once more on Ruby's cape. "Carry me to my room, peasant! I need to change for dinner!"
This made Ruby laugh harder. "Yes, your highness--Or would you prefer 'my darling'?"
"Oh don't you get me started, you annoying little--"
"Who's little, excuse me?"
Weiss, defeated by their bicker, stayed silent. She allowed Ruby to carry her in her arms as every maid and butler looked at them as they passed.
"By the way, we have homework." Ruby reminded the white-haired girl in her arms.
Weiss groaned. These weird days are starting to be a routine to Weiss. How long can she deal with this?
