Teambuilding
Upon arriving at Beacon, Weiss and Ruby received a lot of looks. Ruby smiled at her new companion once when she turned her head but Weiss replied with a sigh, developing a dislike for attention.
Both proceeded to the general assembly hall where they were to be gathered as needed to be briefed of what to do later. A few speeches from the teachers. A lot of chatter among old friends. They were then off to change and ready for their first activity in Beacon.
Weiss' interest and attention were not at all at their current activities. She caught herself staring out to nowhere, her mind preoccupied with something else. Ruby was concerned that Weiss will harm herself if she continues to do so.
They went up a hill overlooking the Emerald forest and Weiss could point out where they first saw Yang and where they often ran into big nasty Grimm from the several runs they have been here. Ruby warned her before of a cave just south and the clearing fields had sightings of a king taijitu once but Ruby assured them that they will be fine. Weiss highly doubted that. Not with her current mindset that might get them in trouble.
Professor Ozpin, the headmaster, together with Professor Glinda Goodwitch told them of what will happen to them in the forest. They must form teams of which they will be picked off by making the first eye contact and make their way to a checkpoint to take a relic. Weiss ought to be careful because she needed Ruby to be in her team, Yang if possible, and someone else that seems reliable enough to keep a secret, or an easy one to eliminate when push comes to shove.
All present students prepared herself to be launched about a hundred feet in the air, Weiss skillfully using her glyphs to land smoothly, securing her location. Ruby did the same with her weapon but progressed further into the forest. Weiss is a little nervous that might see Ruby too late so she went ahead to run on that general direction and hope for the best.
Yang had fun. The blonde managed to go halfway and further than the two, watching out for any other enemies that she might have to be wary of while blasting off with her gauntlets to make a good distance.
A few didn't know how to land, especially a poor sap who threw up in the airship but who was Weiss to judge. She has to find Ruby Rose or else the person who does might end up a dead beat by the end of the semester.
Weiss wandered around for half an hour, scouring the place and looking for Ruby, looking at the feet of the people she passed by. They have to make eye contact to make a team so she wasn't breaking rules as she cautiously trod the forest.
"Weiss? Yang?" She heard from not so far, the voice of Ruby calling for them but the girl was evidently running around quickly from the sound of her footsteps. She was a bush and a skip away from the girl.
"Ruby!" She called, making Ruby halt from her run and backtrack to where the white-haired heiress stood. In relief, Weiss smiled and pulled Ruby in a hug. "I am not taking any other teammate or partner. I have to keep an eye on you."
Ruby was flustered red as she laughed with delight. "Weiss~! I'm starting to think you do care about me!" She teased.
The heiress pulled away and shot ice dust to freeze Ruby at her spot. "No, it will be a pain in the behind to have any other teammate than you so take it or leave it, you're coming with me." She said, trying to convince Ruby and herself of it.
In Ruby's language, that means a yes but she shrugged it off. "Whatever you say, Princess."
"Stop calling me that!" She insisted, rolling her eyes and pouting. "We still have to look for your sister. We have to go. "
Ruby wriggled out of the ice and ran after Weiss who was looking for the sources of gunshots or at least going with her intuition. Where would a dragon nest in a forest like this?
Weiss was trying to think but a warning shot from Ruby fired across her stopped her. A huge Ursai stood towering over her but adrenaline started pumping. Weiss stood in position and attacked quickly as Ruby took shots from behind, she rushed the attack, hitting the creature at the weakest spots known and pulled back as she watched it go down and drop dead. It was relieving to know that Ruby can be relied on at these instances but she has to get her head together. Real battles might end up bad if she wasn't paying attention.
"Nice teamwork, dorks." Yang hung down from a tree branch with another girl beside her. Weiss and Ruby nearly jumped out of their shoes and fired at them before Yang and the new girl drop down to a crouch to evade the fire.
"Hey! Careful!" Yang protested.
"Can you show up normally? PLEASE?" Weiss demanded, holding her heart steady. "Some of us are trying to go through the whole stay in Beacon without a heart attack!"
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, the best-known trader and exporter of dust crystals and weapons through the kingdoms." The new girl blurted up, quite shyly as she looked at the three. "Yang Xiao Long and Ruby Rose, siblings. Well known for their skill in combat and rumors of magical lore."
"Uhm..." Weiss stared at the girl who had jet black silky hair that swayed with the wind, bright yellow eyes like headlights and stature of a flexible person, lean, a little skinny, and had a noticeable bow on top of her head. "Who are you?"
"Blake?" Ruby stared at her from top to bottom, trying to look at her. Weiss has no idea who or what this girl was but she didn't seem eager about meeting new people. Especially Weiss.
"Ruby Rose. It's nice to see you again." The dark-haired young lady smiled, bowing at the presence of Ruby. "Yang has told me of you so much since your absence. She also mentioned you've been freed."
"Uuuhhmm...You know her?" Weiss asked, looking at Yang with a highly raised brow.
"Well, yeah. She's my girlfriend." Yang replied, making this Blake girl blush. Go figure, Weiss can see how these two might sneak off just to get downtime for the both of them without Ruby and her in the way. Oh, the horror of school and friends. "Weiss, meet Blake."
"Pleasure, Blake. It really is...if it was tea time and not in the middle of the forest." Weiss sarcastically said. "Sorry, just I don't want to be left behind. We might end up having different teams if we go last." She stated, looking at the acres and acres of land they still have to tread.
"Regardless of that, we're a proper group now and we just have to retrieve something and head to the checkpoint with the other teams." Weiss pointed out, pointing her rapier north of the forest. "Unless you want to stop over for souvenirs, I suggest we better get going."
Ruby looked at Weiss, trying to look for a reason why the girl's tone suddenly changed. Did she not like Blake? Yang was wondering the same thing because Weiss was not usually the type to be too straightforward. Ever since this morning, she had been out of it.
Perhaps it was because of what she read last night, Ruby was guessing. It was hard to think that Weiss Schnee would lose her cool and composure due to a stranger so it must be because of that. The thought of what she saw this morning made Ruby shiver.
"The pleasantries can come after we make it to the end of Professor Ozpin's odd way to make teams so let's go. I'd want to practice finishing Grimm on the way." She spun and walked off, leaving the rest of the group to follow her.
Ruby rushed to check on her quickly. "Hey! What's wrong? Why do you sound so mad?" She asked as she walked right beside the heiress.
"I'm not mad. I'm just...rushing." She replied, a bad excuse for her behavior for the day. She prayed Ruby would buy it but she's an old entity who can see auras, smell scents, and do magic. Weiss highly doubted she could get away from Ruby with a sorry excuse like that.
Ruby stopped Weiss from her walk, talking her ice-cold hand. "Weiss--" The sensation of cold piercing and burning her skin made Ruby pull away from the heiress. She tried to look for something in Weiss' eyes but they were stormy and cold like a blizzard.
"Ruby, we'll talk after." The white-haired girl simply replied, marching off alone ahead giving no explanation as to what is going on with her.
The vampire can only look at her go and leave, brows knit in worry. Yang and Blake were watching not far from behind as the tension got thicker with the two. It was just a weekend, what happened to Weiss?
Ruby doesn't know. Yang doesn't and Blake can only guess. They all can sense that the girl's headspace was attracting Grimm and it wasn't a good thing.
They all went rushing to follow Weiss.
