Run Off or Out

It was getting late for dinner but it was served regardless as Weiss instructed the kitchen staff. Nothing else was discussed in the parlor after Ruby left, Yang and Blake making clear to her that Ruby was more suited to explain more. Weiss did try to ask them but they trusted that Ruby would explain soon.

How soon? The heiress was curious and needed to know more of the situation.

Thankfully, Ruby returned for dinner to join them for food since tea wasn't enough for her to survive the night. Weiss sat as the head of the household as she always did. Dinner was served and everything looked scrumptious, from the soup, the salad, the main course and everything else.

But the heiress had many other things in her mind as the odd and unnatural silence engulfed and drowned the dinning hall. She can tell easily that Ruby was not going to say anymore than she did earlier, Yang and Blake didn't seem to have the same need like her to know more of the story.

What was Cinder to them? Who was Adam really? Why did this upset Ruby? What happened...?

She needed to know the truth or at least the  answers to hundreds of her questions. The princess didn't exactly know how she'd get it.

In the middle of the meal, it was unbearable. She needed to know. Blake and Yang knew who they were up to but her? She was clueless.

"Ruby...What was your relationship to Cinder?" Weiss asked softly, looking up through her thick snow white lashes.

Ruby didn't bat an eye but stopped eating her food. Yang and Blake paused eating and looked at the two. This isn't a good sign, is it?

"Why do you need to know? All I just want you to do is avoid a fight with them so things won't get messy." The huntress adviced, her voice stern and hard.

Her blonde sister gave her a look. "Ruby, don't be like that..."

"Like what, Yang?" Ruby snapped, her eyes dark.

Yang sank in her seat like a child being scolded  at. Weiss bit her tongue but her mouth got the better of her. "Because I need the reason to fight them. I just can't fight someone who's innocent to me."

"Believe me, they are no where near innocent, Weiss. Please, drop this right now." Ruby hissed where it was obvious that she didn't want to snap at the heiress, avoiding conflict between them.

Weiss frowned. "I am as liable as Yang and Blake when the fight comes to us. I need to know who we are up against, Ruby. I can't just raise my sword for someone else's vengeance that I don't know." She gazed at Ruby and slowly found herself getting more and more frustrated as the seconds pass.

"You promised me no secrets, Ruby. This is the one thing I'm asking you to tell me quickly. You promised!" The heiress argued, her emotions seething through the room in frost, a cold white blanket of cold on the marble floors.

Ruby found the situation very frustrating for her as well. The topic of her losing her mother was simply too much to think about when its the torture that was given to her in that prison. Clearly this was traumatic even for her, especially for her.

Her eyes were were full of agitation and fury when she turned to Weiss who was as furious and more. "Why do you care so much?  Your need to know everything and anything is getting to my nerves--"

"And here I thought you would give me the simple truth I ask of you. Blake and Yang didn't tell me anything and you refuse me the same truth?!" Weiss stood from her seat, her chair falling and shattering from the impact. Her eyes were glossy with tears, her voice shaking and raising.  "Was it really wise for me to even let you stay in my home if you break your promises as fast as you give them?"

Before Ruby could even return a reply to Weiss, she was gone through the room doors and out of the home quickly, fleeting away with tears flowing down her cheeks. She was mad at the fact that the girl easily just brushed her off like that it was an unimportant detail that she didn't have to know even if it was. It was annoying, insulting and frustrating.

The repetitive though of it was enough for her to repeatedly find the urge to cut someone's throat. Weiss took this as sign for her to cool of but how? Ruby mislead her for weeks to think that they were close enough to share intimate moments, and they have. Unfortunately, intimate was not enough for Ruby to trust her with heavier secrets.

Her feet brought her to the bare and almost empty streets of Vale, downtown near the slums. Just how far was she walking? She could care less. Her misery was drowning her in pain that she can't stop crying about.

What was that stupid promise for? What is she even to Ruby? Had it all been just for Ruby to pass the time? She could bet a thousand lien that she was not worth anything to Ruby but a pawn to a chess board.

Given that thought, she wanted to know what will happen if Ruby just found her dead once nice morning. Maybe tomorrow. No no...that would be too easy. Its a bad suggestion by her own mind but what would cause the girl pain?

Before she knew and saw anything out of her daze, Weiss just felt a burning pain from her arm. Blood started spilling from her slice but from who..?

"Well, well, well. Who do we have here?" A man, masked on his eyes, hair red like never ending embers to a fire, dressed dark to blend with the night, a sword in hand.

Weiss couldn't tell who he is but she wondered if anyone of the three knew him. He seems to be knowledgable as to who she, it was unfair to her.

"You look pathetic crying. I wonder what she saw in you, in the whole lot of you, to even join your band of freaks!" He asked, inspecting Weiss who was hurting, shocked and utterly confused.

She tried to think of names and faces of the people that her family had offended and hurt and can't really think of anyone who wouldn't want them dead. "Who are you? What do you want from me? Money? I have more than I could care to spend."

"If it was that simple, Miss Schnee. Alas, its not. You seem to have someone who belongs to me. I want her back." He replied, pointing his blade down her throat.

'Yes please, Just stab me and end me.' is what she thought initially but with the way he is speaking, he seem to be implying that someone she knows must return to him but who? And why?

See this is why one must not keep secret from your friends, kids.

At the mansion, Blake suggested they talk to Ruby but Yang didn't know about that. She was plenty mad about earlier but the blonde did have an unsettled feeling growing by the minute, like a storm brewing.

The two just agreed to try to talk to Ruby for now to find a way for her and Weiss to make-up. It wasn't going to be easy but it's worth a shot for a friend. Yang knocked on her sister's bedroom door, hoping to call her out.

"Ruby? Its me, Yang. Can you come out for a bit?" She requested. Blake had the same worried look on her face like Yang because its been a good two hours since they saw Weiss.

"Weiss isn't home yet! We're worried that something might have happened to her. It's getting late." Blake added, her voice full of worry just as much as it is concerned.

Ruby can hear them just fine inside as she sat on her bed, thinking of a way to fix this herself but with what she just pulled, she might as well be dead. She broke a promise bound by the seal she gave Weiss from when she stayed staying. That night in the forrest...

Flashes of Weiss' eyes, her smile and her gleaming soul made her heart ache with guilt and regret. Deep in the pit of her stomach, she knew something was wrong. She knew something wasn't right just as Yang and Blake had been trying to tell her.

But she can't face Weiss after what she denied her of. She denied her the one important story she needed to know about her. Ruby's eyes welled with tears. Even she can't find herself to remember what those people did to her family, to her.

Selfishness blinded her and it was killing her to think of the many ways the night can go wrong.

"Weiss went out with nothing, Ruby. No weapons, no phone, nothing. We can't reach her." Yang told her from behind the door. Now her worry was suffocating her. She needed to find Weiss. They surely would know of her whereabouts by now right? But if they went out now...where would they find her?

Ruby slipped off her bed and opened the door for the two who attacked her directly with a slap. "Ow. Thanks."

"Thank me later, you ass! Princess isn't here. She's always home reading by evening. You told me!" Yang recalled. "Where can she go at this hour?"

Blake ran to get Weiss' weapons from her room and her scroll with it. "We have to look for her. She might be in trouble." She suggested, dropping the things in Ruby's arms.

The huntress equipped her cloak and better shoes together with Crescent Rose by her waist. "I assume you'll be coming with me?" She inquired as she started walking out of the house, the two of them following her.

"You can't search a whole city this big alone." The blonde insisted as she called bumblebee around.

Blake couldn't agree more. "I'll head out ahead to scout ahead. Keep your scrolls around."

"I'll try to track her in some way. If she's in trouble, I can find her by the scent of her blood easily." Ruby stated. "Stay close and tell me if you find her."

With that, the three of them went out to find Weiss for the night but they might not make it.

Ice on blades, the sound of rumbling and slicing was all anyone could hear for miles as they fought. Injured already, Weiss tried to fight for her life with just magic.

"You use your semblance very well for a Schnee! Ha! Maybe I should get you than Blake instead!" Adam shouted.

Weiss found out who this sick bastard was the moment he mentioned Yang and Blake's names. How they took everything from him and how Blake left for a blonde joke like Yang.

"You sick ass! Leave her be!" She ordered as she attacked once more with a freezing blizzard around him. He started freezing quickly but not quick enough as he managed to change the air pressure around him with his sword.

"How can I? I want her to perish and be ashamed that she's siding with a Schnee! A SCHNEE!!" He was enraged. Quickly, he charged Weiss but she was starting to drain. Slowly.

How did she even manage to last this long? She kept her magic under control but even her attacks were mortifying. This fight had been too much for her to even handle in control.

The heiress blocked him with another tower of ice and that kept him stuck in place and she booked it, leaving the area in fear she might destroy everything.

"We're not yet done, Schnee! Far off!" He managed to get free and Weiss did her best to speed out of there, her arm hurting more and more.

Before she knew it, her legs gave out from pain and her aura was drained before she even crashed on a metal pillar under the highway.

Blood. She has never lost this much blood. If Ruby was here, she'll find it a shame to even lose this much in one fight.

She was tired, weak, and had no way to keep herself alive if an attack landed the wrong way.

Adam was not far behind her, brandishing his blade. "What do you have to say for yourself...surely your family would like to have you back...even in separate pieces."

Fuck it all and be dammed. If she kept suppressing her powers, she'll end up in a casket.

"I'm not going down as easy as you think." She wiped off the blood off the side of her lips. "Keep trying, you rat."

This was such an easy way to rile up the man who attacked her straight on.

Weiss threw every sense of control out of the window and did what her instincts told her. He was open everywhere else. He had every intention to murder her with the way he raised his blade but she had better resolve.

She wants to stay alive no matter what.

"You have to pay for what you did to me. Your family degraded me!" He shouted as he tried to land his blade on her. Unfortunately, with no control needed in this fight, she easily overpowered him.

Tossing him to the side with snow was not enough to keep him down. Not even the extreme cold was enough to wear off his aura like he did to her.

Unfortunately, Ruby found the scent of her blood easily from the highway above and the scent of fresh snow. She instructed Yang to jump off the highway and down underneath.

Weiss summoned a solid weapon out of ice in her hands--A weapon she didn't know she can wield so easily like this. A reaper's scythe.

"You tore cities apart, factions divided, scarring my friends. You deserve death in every way." She spat off blood to the side as she dragged her weapon behind her.

Ruby caught her in the act and saw Adam battered underneath a huge pile pf ice and snow. "Weiss..? No...no no...WEISS!!"

Yang got off and grabbed Ruby by her arm. "You can't stop her...not now."

Weiss raised the scythe while Adam was disoriented and down. "You should have stopped when you can."

"And you can't kill me...you coward." He told her as he tried to sit up.

"See you in the underworld." She swung the scythe and decapitated Adam swiftly and cleanly and Ruby can't do anything but watch.

Weiss turned to them, her eyes glowing blue and empty, cold for a moment before she dropped on her knees and fell unconscious. Ruby shivered from a single gaze of whoever that was but ran to catch Weiss in her arms. With that, the fight was over.

"No, no no no...Weiss! Weiss I'm so sorry...What have I done?" She wept as she tried to wake Weiss in her arms. "Weiss, wake up. Please wake up." Tears flowed down her cheeks as she carried the girl in her arms. "Hang in there. Please wake up!"

Yang can only watch with a small smile. Adam is finally gone. Finally.

Unfortunately, this night was not yet a great ending for any of them with this much injuries, Weiss needs to recover for a while.

"I wish it was just me. I wish it was me who fought him...not you." Ruby whispered as she ran home with Blake and Yang riding behind her.

This night can't get any worse or better. But this surely would start the war...for now, they all needed to hope and ask the gods to keep Weiss alive.
