Chapter 3

(Im changing how I'm writing it now, just so it's less confusing and I'll start using names instead of 2 or 3 separate viewpoints of each chapter.)

Sarah sat in the corridor crying, wondering what she had done wrong to ruin her chance to be with Brendon. Wondering why he said no. 'I thought we would have been great together. He's hot, I'm pretty, we'd make great children.' She could have been his princess. His queen. She sobbed harder, missing the approaching footsteps coming down the corridor.

Brendon swung around the hallway and found Sarah crying on the ground. "Sarah! Please don't cry! I wasn't thinking when i said that. I'm sorry! Please forgive me!" He ran up to her and got on his knees. He hugged her and tried his best to comfort her.

Sarah was surprised because she hadn't expected Brendon. She gasped when he hugged her. She finally registered what he had said and she immediately stopped crying. "So you do want me to be your queen?" she looked up at him, eyes big and hopeful.

Brendon suddenly got uncomfortable and slowly let go. He held onto her hands and looked her in the eyes. "Sarah, love, it's early. I want to get to know you before i make my decision, like i've done with the rest of my suitors." He pitied her, all she wanted was someone to love her, or so he thought.

Sarah took her hands out of his and wiped her once again teary eyes. "Sure Brendon, but i'm an all or nothing girl." She smiled softly and sighed. "once you have me you're not letting go."

Brendon nodded and smiled. "Thank you for understanding. I didn't mean to make you cry. I just need time is all. We can talk with my father and figure out a date to set so we can spend the day getting to know eachother. How does that sound?"

Sarah grimaced. "You mean like a date? Like something the peasants do? Why can we not just choose soon, its so much easier."

Brendon stared at her blankly. "I told you i needed time to figure out who you are. And those peasants are our people  we must protect. Besides, i quite frankly like how they choose their life partners. They want to know them before they're stuck with them . I would like to make sure my queen has a good heart before she helps me rule my land."

Sarah smiled. "I understand, Brendon. I'm sorry if what i said upset you. Please, i'd love to have a date with you and get to know you better." She hugged him tightly. 'if i do this then i can finally marry him. id be queen, id have so much power, id have the most beautiful prince in all the land and we would have such beautiful babies.' She sighed contently and pulled away from Brendon.

"Lets go back to the party, shall we?" Brendon stood up and held his hand our for her to take. "We can enjoy the party for while and before it's over we can speak to my father about a date to get to know each other." Sarah took his hand and he stood her up. He motioned for her to go forward down the hallway. "Ladies first madame."

Sarah smiled and curtseyed. Brendon held her hand as they walked down the hallway and back to the party. There was no more music and quiet murmurs were heard throughout the ballroom. Everyone turned as the pair walked back in. Brendon looked a little annoyed. "Everything is fine, please go back to enjoying the party.

The whole room had blank expressions. Brendon gestured over to the orchestra to start playing music again and they started immediately. The quiet murmurs of the room subsided and things went back to normal for the most part. There we some stares and quiet whispers here and there but it didn't really bother them anymore since they knew everything was fine now.

Sarah and Brendon walked back over to where they were earlier with Dallon. Dallon sat there in the same spot watching all the lovely couples dance to the music. "So is everything really settled or did you say that so there would be no rumors going around the kingdoms?" Dallon spoke quietly.

Brendon shook his head and smiled. "No Dallon, everything is fine now. We worked things out and plan to see eachother again for a date." He held onto Sarah's hand tighter and pulled her in closer.

Dallon smiled as well. "Well im glad that's settled. Do you two intend on dancing tonight? I mean you've done such a lovely job with the party, shouldn't you enjoy it?" Dallon stood up and waived over a waitress and took three glasses of champagne for their little trio. "If you expect me to be talkative and enjoy myself tonight like how you greeted me, then i expect you to enjoy yourself to sir." He passed out the champagne.

Brendon chuckled and took the champagne. "You know what Dallon, i didn't take you to be one to drink, but if you'll enjoy the party, then i will to." He elbowed Dallon and smiled.

Sarah smiled and took her champagne. "Well i think i'll take this next dance with you Brendon." She smiled up at him and siped her champagne. "If you're ready for that, that is." She sounded a little bitter.

Brendon looked down at her quickly. "Um, yeah." He said awkwardly, sensing the remark from earlier in the corridor. He turned to Dallon. "Do you have anyone to dance with Dallon?"

Dallon shook his head, "No but i might ask a lady to dance with me if we all dance." He sipped his champagne and looked around the ballroom. "Surely someone would be willing to dance with me."

Brendon nodded and smiled mischievously. He leaned down to Sarah's ear and whispered something while making eye contact with Dallon. "I'm gonna go tell the orchestra to play some music for everyone to dance to. Whoever does not have a partner will dance with Dallon."

Sarah looked up at Dallon and nodded. Brendon went off to go tell the orchestra to play a specific song. He climbed to the top of the step and grabbed a knife off the food table and hit it against his champagne glass. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to do a dance tonight that i would like everyone to participate in please. Everyone please find a partner."

Everyone in the crowd walked around and found a partner except a young man. Dallon looked up at Brendon with fear on his face. Brendon looked back blankly. 'Well that's not how i planned this out.'  Brendon shrugged and walked back down the stairs over to Dallon and Sarah. "Sarah, love, dance with Dallon. It's my job to keep our guests happy and you'll still be with a prince, so dance with him and i'll entertain our... Kind sir over here."

Sarah looked shocked and shook her head, grabbing his arm and keeping him from leaving. "No Brendon! I wanted this dance with you, that was the whole point of this, was it not?" She glared at him.

Brendon took his arm from her grasp. "Listen Sarah, if you can't let me go for one second then I won't be dancing with you at all. Instead, how about you go and dance with our kind fellow if you want to make it up to me."

Sarah looked appalled and stomped her foot on the ground. "Fine! I and not doing this cause I want to though!" She stormed off in the direction of the guy and grabbed his hand. She contained herself before she made it to him because as much as she hated it, she had to be nice to the people so she wouldn't look bad. "I noticed you didn't have a partner, dance with me?" She held out her hand which the young man gladly took.

Brendon huffed and flattened out the wrinkles of his suit. "As much as i like her she is really getting on my nerves." Brendon chugged the rest of his champagne and realized their situation. "Oh... We are the only two left, huh." He chuckled. "Sorry about that Dallon."

Dallon waved it off and finished his champagne. "Don't worry about it. As long as the people are happy then I'm happy." He smiled and looked out to the dancing crowd in front of them.

Brendon chuckled, catching Dallons attention. "What's so funny?"

"Nothing nothing I just thought that since we were the only two without partners, we could be each others partners." Brendon chickled again and smiled up at Dallon.

Dallon laughed a little himself. "That would be a little odd, but then again, you did say that everyone had to participate." Dallon smiled. "Why not humor ourselves, It's only one dance."

'Wait a minute why am i condoning this, I should be dancing with a princess, not a prince. Has that little amount of champagne really got to my head?' Dallon thought.

Brendon stared at him. "I did say that didn't I." Brendon looked at the ground thinking. 'He just asked me to dance with him. i'm supposed to be with a princess, like Sarah, not Dallon.'

Brendon shrugged. "Sure, why not. One dance never hurt anybody."

Both of them walked to the crowd and joined them in dancing. They got some disapproving and weird looks from a few dancers beside them but they didn't seem to care. Once the dance was over Brendon got back to the top of the stairs smiling.

"Thank you for letting me have this dance with everyone. For those of you who gave me the disapproving looks, I did say everyone needed to participate and we were the only ones left so we danced together. There is no need for any hatred for just a simple dance ladies and gentlemen. But please, continue on with your night and help yourself to our food and booze."

Dallon facepalmed and shook his head. "I'm not sure everyone needed an explanation but thank you i guess." Dallon smiled and Brendon did to.

Sarah walked over to them and was frowning. "You two danced with each other while i had to dance with a peasant?"

"Listen love, it made me happy and that's what i wanted. Thank you for doing that and i promise we will have a dance tonight." Brendon looked over at Dallon apologetically. "I'm sorry i made you dance with me, you could have danced with Sarah."

Sarah shook her head. "No you couldn't." She grabbed Brendon's hand. "Can we please go talk to your father about that," she paused, grimacing, "date." She looked up at him with puppy eyes.

Brendon nodded. "Fine, let's go."

Sarah giggled and dragged him across the ballroom to go speak to her father. Brendon glanced back at Dallon who just looked stunned and confused. He mouthed an, 'I'm sorry' and a 'Help me' and giggled as he turned to go with Sarah.
