Chapter 2
Dusk drew closer and closer as the party arrived. A line spanning from the gates of the castle and across the kingdom is the residents of the land. At the beginning of the line stood neighbouring princes and princesses from lands next door. It just so happened that the very first in the line of royalty was Prince Dallon and his father. Immediately after them stood Sarah and her parents. The party didn't start for another ten minutes, but as they always say, if you're not early, you're late.
The buzzing of the people radiates throughout everyone, except Dallon's father. He was of course not happy to be at his trade rivals party, but though he didn't want to, he had to admit to himself they've done a good job with the party.
Music could be heard throughout the courtyards and different colored lights could be seen strewn throughout the castle windows. Most of the guards stood outside the castle to keep everyone inside safe. Other guards stayed inside to keep the party calm.
~Brendon~
He looked out the window and smiled down at the kingdom of happy people waiting to have a great night. He made his way up the line and saw the variety of royals. He smiled when he finally saw Sarah. His heart beat got faster and his mind raced with thoughts of her being his queen. He knew he wanted her as his queen.
She had it all. The looks, the manners, the personality, a strong sense of will, and again, the looks. He sighed and turned away from the window to look at himself in the mirror. His father picked out the suit. 'This has been in the family for years. Do NOT. I repeat, do NOT ruin this suit Brendon. If this gets ripped or stained, I will be beyond mad.' The conversation popped back up in his head.
"He underestimates me sometimes." Brendon smiled and sighed. He shook off any nerves he had and made his way downstairs to the ball room. His father walked in at the same time and nodded to his son.
"You look good boy. It 'suits' you." His father laughed at his own joke. "But do be careful son. Remember what I said."
"Dad, please have more faith in me. This is a suit we're talking about. If you trust I can handle a kingdom of people, at least trust me with a piece of cloth." Brendon crossed his arms over his chest.
His father opened his mouth to argue, but as soon as he was about to say something, the gate opened, and the line of people had been revealed. At first glance, he wished he never ordered the meeting with the Weekes', but he knew it had to be done sooner or later, and it was already later.
Brendon watched the family walk in, so he rushed to the door to greet them, not knowing this was the family his father always bickered about. "Hello king-"
"Weekes."
"King Weekes. Hello sir, I hope you find yourself to have an amazing night." Brendon smiled and bowed to him, holding his hand out to the rest of the castle. Then he looked up to his son. "Prince Weekes I presume?"
The tall man nodded quietly. "A man of few words. I see." Brendon smiled brightly to the prince. "I hope that comes to change tonight. Be free sir, have fun, have a great night." He bowed to the young man and held his hand out to the rest of the castle as well.
Brendon turned to Princess Sarah and smiled beautifully. She did a lovely curtsey and smiled back just as bright. "Prince."
"Princess." He took her hand a kissed it, grinning up at her and bowing himself. "How do you do?"
"I'm fine good sir, and how might you be?" She smiled and pulled her hand back to her side, a little too quickly, which of course he noticed.
"Ms. Sarah if you don't want me to do that then just tell me." His smile fell only slightly. "But I'm fine, thank you for asking me dear."
"No, it's very nice when you do that Brendon, I'm just shy is all." She looked down, blushing. She walked by and beside him, pointing at the line. "Don't waist your time on me just yet. You still have a lot of people to get through." She giggled at his blank expression.
"Ah yes, thank you, Sarah." He smiled again and turned to face the rest of the line. 'This is gonna be a long night.' He sighed, and addressed the rest of the line. Every maiden with a kiss on her hand, no matter how tattered or beautiful. And ever sir with a bow and a welcoming hand gesture.

After about half an hour of greeting everyone who came to the party, the gates shut and that was the cut off from the guests. Brendon walked into the ballroom where most of the guests were dancing, drinking, and just having a good time. He smiled at the site in front of him. It was nice to see the room alive and full of people instead of empty and covered in dust.
He found himself walking towards the room. He looked around for Sarah and her parents, hoping to find her and have a dance. He made his way to the top of the steps, looking for the beautiful princess, and he saw her. She stood, talking to another prince. Prince Weekes. He suddenly felt a surge of jealousy coarse through his veins. He made his way to the two royals to see what was going on.
~Dallon~
"Dallon once we get inside, I will be off with the king to discuss a calmer meeting for talking about trade deals. I would much rather you come with me, because these problems will sadly, more than likely be passed on the when your king." His father explained more about the trading deal which bored Dallon.
"Father I'll do fine. I don't need to go with you, I know what I'm doing. I have my own plan. Can you trust me please?" He sighed and spoke calmly. His father seemed taken back. He had never talked back like that.
"Fine son. You do whatever it is you want to do and I'll actually try and fix the kingdom. Have a good night." He turned away from his son. As soon as the argument finished, the guards announced the gate was opening, and then the party had started.
Dallon's father met Brendon with a cold stare and walked right past him as soon as he was done with his greeting. Next was me. "Prince Weekes I presume?" He asked and Dallon nodded. He took into consideration how he was quiet at first and told him to let go and have fun.
He took that to heart. And mind. 'He is going to be a very laid back king someday. I hope he doesn't ruin his own kingdom like my father has.' Dallon sighed and nodded, walking past Brendon and into the ballroom. Dallon looked around the room and awe'd at the beautiful room. "They do have a nice home." He smiled and sat at the corner of the room, waiting for something to happen.
-
10 minutes after he had gotten inside, a lovely princess had came up to him. She sat by his side and made conversation. "Hello Prince Dallon." She smiled at him and faced into the crowd of people.
"Hello Princess Sarah." He said calmly, face turned blank. "How are you?" He turned to her, only to find her closer than he wanted her to be. He backed up in his chair, only to see her scoot towards him.
"What's wrong?" She asked, knowing perfectly well what was wrong. "Is it something I did?" She frowned and backed up again, giggling. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to see what you would do." Her smile returned and she sat normally again.
Dallon stayed back, but sat up straight. "Right." He said slowly. "So how are you?" He sat, not facing her. He didn't want to turn to her again.
"I'm fine. Just waiting." She was hiding something but Dallon couldn't tell what. "And if you want to know what," she pointed to Brendon, "him. I'm waiting for him."
Dallon was still suspicious, but didn't think she was lying either. "Oh, are you two getting married? Did he choose you as his princess?" He seemed genuinely surprised.
"No, but I really hope he does. He has told me he has taken a liking to me, and we have almost shared a kiss, but my mother had to ruin things." She smiled bitterly. "But that's okay though. I have a feeling he will choose me. I mean look at me. I'm beautiful, and I'm nice." She smiled at him.
Dallon did have to admit she was very beautiful, just not very humble. "Yes, you are princess, but that's not the key factor to choosing a princess. It's their leadership abilities and things like that." He explained, still not looking at her.
"Well yes I know that but I think he will choose me because-"
"Who will choose you for what, dear?" Brendon stood by Sarah and Dallon. Sarah was startled from looking at Dallon and looked over at Brendon. "Oh, hello Brendon." She smiled at him.
Dallon's eyes widened. "You just call him by his name? No, royal customs?" Now he was very confused.
Brendon and Sarah shook their heads. "Brendon said royal customs shouldn't affect our normal, everyday conversations. Why be so formal with people who you would want to be friends with?"
Dallon nodded. "I mean, I understand, but does that not make you feel different? Not making everything so formal would seem pretty odd to me."
Brendon nodded. "I mean it definitely feels different, but I think we will get used to it. Considering i want to talk to her everyday with her as my wife." He hadn't noticed what he said until he said it. "Wait! That, I didn't mean to say that!" He was blushing bright red and looking at the floor.
Sarah's eyes widened. "You, want me as your queen?" She grabbed onto his arm, smiling widely. "Brendon?"
Dallon tensed up quickly. 'Is this really a conversation to be having now?' He thought to himself as he watched the situation in front of him unfurl.
Brendon froze under Sarah's gaze. "No!" He said loudly, a few people from the crowd stopped to look at the scene, but otherwise the crowd was unaffected.
Sarah's smile fell and tears brimmed her eyes. "No?" She was sad and angry. "N-no?" She stuttered and choked out a sob. "Why not, Brendon?" She spoke louder with each passing sentence. "I'm beautiful, sweet, and I'd make an amazing queen." She let go of him and stood up. By this time, the ballroom grew silent and all eyes were on the situation happening.
"I thought you liked me, Brendon!" She cried and ran across the ballroom into one of the corridors that led out into hallways. The same hallway that happened to be where they met, and almost kissed.
Brendon stood their shocked, jaw dropped and stood still. Everyone stood and looked at Brendon confused and concerned. Dallon sat shocked as well, his tense figure tensed up even more.
'What have I done?' Thought Brendon. 'Of course I want her as my wife. I need to go get her.' And so he ran after Sarah, headed to the same corridor.
