Chapter 28- Are You Ready?

"This is your pilot speaking. Please remain calm." He continued, "Just a little turbulence; we will be landing soon. Everyone please take your seats and strap up." The pilot spoke through the intercom.

The lights came on and the shaking of the plane from only minutes ago was abruptly severed, just as fast as it came. There were some screams, mostly from the startled passengers.

I stood up briefly assessing the damage that was caused. Everyone seemed to be okay but just a little shaken up. Well, everyone but a very frightened looking Chris. He looked like he had deployed a number two in his pants.

That's funny, I thought he was fearless. I guess I was mistaken. His eyes were wide and staring off into space of nothing. His mouth hung low and wide open, catching any stray flies that might have gotten into the plane. Chris' hands were clamped tightly around Alyson's wrist.

That was when I smelt it. The blood of a human. It had a strong syrupy smell, like red wine made of the finest grapes. I scanned the room to discover where this was coming from. It proved to be a frail attempt in investigating so I got up. I slid out from my seat.

"Where are you going?" Reece asked. "I think you should remain in your seat."

I knew he could smell it too. His jaws remained rigid and sharp as he tried to control himself. I smiled.

"I just feel a little stuffy and shaken up. Don't worry, am heading to the bathroom."

His face contorted into the expression of doubt but he grinned. "I think I should come with you."

I responded with a curt no and moved across him to the aisle.

"I'll be fine." I smiled at Reece, hoping it was enough to get him to lay off.

As soon as I got out, I reached for my carry-on. I got out swabs of peroxide and wrapping bandages. I thought it would be a good idea to carry some essentials, just incase Bryan and Chris decided to do something crazy and get someone hurt. Let's just say I was prepared for a couple bruises and cuts. I slipped them into my pouch and then took out two pads from my suitcase, allowing Reece to see it. I didn't want him being suspicious.

I got up and walked over to Alyson. I saw that Chris still had a strong grip on her hand. His nails weren't elongated, but with the way he gripped her hand showed that if he squeezed it a little more then it would snap. His nails scratched her a bit.

I mind linked Chris and snarled at him. "Chris, you're crushing Alyson's wrist!" He was still, no movement. It didn't even look like he was breathing. "Let go! Now!" My beast roared at him from inside my head and suddenly he let go.

He looked up at me, then at Alyson and he seemed as if he was going to puke. Guilt clawed over his features at the realization he wasn't in control. "I'm so sorry Alyson." The words rushed out in worry. "I really didn't mean to that."

Alyson smiled at him, "It's okay. You were scared. It happens to the best of us."

"Thank you for letting me hold your hand and I am really and truly sorry. It won't happen again."

I sought to make my presence known, "Alyson lets get your wrist cleaned up." She nodded, "Chris don't worry about it. She'll be fine."

He nodded, clearly stressed out and afraid. Afraid of himself. Alyson got up and came with me to the back of the plane. She smiled at me, which kind of surprised me. "Don't tell Scott about this okay?" I was her friend and Scott was my brother. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

"I won't tell Scott anything, but if and when he sees these marks, he will be mad at you. This is none of my business but I think you should tell him on your own terms.

I dressed her wound and we went back to our seats. The plane landed and the ride home with everyone was cheerful. Except for me. I had a lot on my mind. When we got to the house we went our separate ways. It was about eight in the night. I had to prepare for school the next morning. I was one of those kids who didn't particularly like school so one can imagine how idle I was being.

Royale Academy was a stuck up rich school so uniforms were a must. I went to a public school in California. A bit run-down but I didn't mind. We were allowed to wear what we wanted. But what was I to complain about. I had good friends there. We weren't that close but close enough to eat lunch together. There were many times where our teachers got so fed up with the students' attitude they became lethargic and in some cases ignored us completely.

I won't lie. I wasn't a part of the queen bee society, I wasn't a jock, I wasn't a part of the feel-sorry-for-yourself- group, nor was I a nerd. I was more like a lone wolf. And now that everything has happened in my life, it sort of is ironic. I was by myself most of the times. I guess, I was little more of an all rounder.

I avoided the queen bee and her minions; I didn't participate in sports unless it was for gym class and until two months ago, I had no reason to feel sorry for myself. Even though I loved to go to the library and read books, I still didn't see myself as a nerd. I didn't like drawing attention to myself and I still wasn't a complete and total outcast. I had associates.

I pulled the suitcase inside and flung my bags across the room. I saw it as too much work and a waste of energy to make two trips across a room as big as mine. On the bed was my uniform. It looked really cliche. I put down my sunglasses and stared at it for the longest while. It was the uniform of a prep school girl and I was no where near preppy.

The sapphire blue blazer along with the proud coat of arms of the school was emblazoned in red and sapphire blue. Within the escutcheon of the coat of arms there was a torch, supporting the shield were two lions and above that, was a crown. The words, "Leaders of tomorrow" were written beneath the shield. The hems of the blazer was lined with red.

It was so simple yet it had an aura of authority about it, the brilliant white of the blouse shone when the light hit it perfectly. The sleeves were long. The knee high socks that were sapphire blue was next to my school attire and at the foot of my bed was a pair of black sneakers.

There was a knock on my door and the door was slightly cracked open. Emerging from the doorway was Aiden who poked his head through. "Hey," he greeted me still standing in the doorway.

"Hey," I waved at him. This was unlike Aiden to show at my room. His room was on the upper floor. He normally only came by to play video games or hang out with Scott. So one can imagine that I found this strange, "What's up?"

"Just came to check up on you." I heard what he said but I knew something was up. "Are you ready for your first day tomorrow?"

"Ready?" I turned to looked at my school attire, that was perfectly lain out on my bed. A sigh escaped my lips answering his question. "They sent to you to give me a pep talk?" I asked.

"Yeah, I still don't get the concept of chess." He entered the room, closed the door behind him and stood at the door. His tone was playful. "I have got to find someone to teach me chess so I can stop getting my ass kicked by Bryan. This is his way of punishing me, it seems."

"I see," I nodded my head, "So you guys used me as a bet?" I asked in awe, a little surprised they would do that.

"Lighten up sis, I wouldn't call it a bet per say. It was more like retribution for me pranking Bryan not so long ago." He walked toward the bed and took a seat beside me.

"Am I really that awful?" I probed.

"You're not awful but... Uhh How I say this? Umm, you are quite scary when your face is blank and emotionless, which makes you look like a bloated tigress on her period and having diarrhea. So yes, you are very scary when you're silent."

I put my elbow on my thigh, and rested my head in the palm of my hand.
"And how's that working out for you? Huh?"

"Well, you haven't sent me running, screaming and crying bloody Mary yet, so I think I am good." This made me laugh a bit. Aiden and I hadn't talked like this before.

"So about school? Are you ready?" He questioned.

"It's not that I'm not ready. I just don't want to go through the process of going to a new school again. It wasn't fun then and I don't think it will be now." I sighed again and rubbed my temples.

"It's okay that you don't want to start a new school. I know you're thinking about all the things you'll have to endure through again but just remember that you won't be the new girl forever. And it won't be as hard as you think. You have me, your knight and shining armor or modernly known as, your kick ass brother."

He laughed and I giggled. Then he made the mistake of ruffling my curly hair. How was I suppose to have my hair looking amazing if he ruined it? I slapped his hand and he flinched. "Someone's being a bi-

"I swear to God, if you say it, I will castrate you..." I was aware of how dark and dangerous my voice sounded and I could see Aiden was imagining it. I inwardly laughed.

"Don't worry. Just stay on my good side and we'll be fine." I couldn't hold the laughter in any longer and I burst out laughing.

"You would never do that to me... Right?"

"No promises bruh." I could see him swallow his saliva and then he smiled a bit. "Dinner in five." Then just like that he bolted out of my room to protect his balls or should I say manhood.

I felt guilty. Aiden had come up here to have a talk with me but I was still keeping something from him. Jacob still dimmed my soul but I couldn't tell anyone. Aiden was sometimes arrogant but he cared for his family.
He may be an ass sometimes but when it mattered he was sweet and considerate. At the end of the conversation I felt like everything was going to be alright and even though I still had my doubts about a new school with new people and a new everything. I felt at ease because I had my family.
