Carrie laughed a little. "Look a little different, huh?" She said. She tossed her hair, exactly the way Sue or Chris would. Her once scraggly, flat hair was now bouncy and full of life.
"What happened to you?" Chris asked.
"I got better, right? Am I finally good enough for your impossible standards?" Carrie asked. Something was wrong. She wasn't even the same person. What was with this complete 180?
"No comments about how everyone except you and your mom are going to hell?" Chris asked with a smirk.
Carrie's smile faded, before returning. "I realized that we're all going there anyway. Even me. So..." She leaned in tauntingly. "Might as well engage in a little sin, right?" She giggled. "Sue, Tommy, see you in English?"
"Yeah. Sure." Sue said with a fake smile.
Carrie waved to Chris before walking away. Chris turned back to Sue, her former friend. "Who does she think she is?" She asked. "She's no different than before."
Sue gritted her teeth. "You are going to stay away from her. She went through something terrible after the prom. You touch her again, and I will get your ass expelled." She said. It was the first time that Sue seemed genuinely threatening.
Tommy placed a hand on her shoulder, letting Sue regain her composure. "We've been trying to help her get better." Sue said. "This is her way of coping with what happened. So just stay away from her this time, okay?" Then she and Tommy walked away together, hand in hand.
Chris took a second to glance back at Carrie. Never mind. She thought. I guess I do have a little hate left.
