Chapter 5: The Raven.
Another story in another location...
A small village existed, it was known about but secluded. Living in the village was a species of creature, anthro wolves with a twist. Their species originated with wings, their arms were replaced with wings back then, they used their feet to pick up meals, but while they became anthro it became increasingly harder to eat, thus they developed arms, causing them to stop using their wings often.
Which is where we are today, a village of this species, some have wings, but most don't. The wings are too small to fly, a few kids learned, but compared to their body they're not able to go fast or fly too high.
And then there's the girl with the largest wings.
Bullied for them often, hating the wings. Never learned how to fly, they were a burden. She went by the name of Raven.
"Hey, Raven! What are you doing after school? Sitting around and being useless?" A rich girl named Christy teased, Raven rolls her eyes and pushes her away with one of her wings. All the other girls giggle. "Maybe you should keep those wings, I mean they're just as useful as you, all they do is push people away!"
The other girl's laughter was normal for Raven. "Shut up. You're like a fucking bowling ball, you get picked up, fingered, thrown into an ally then come back for more, you have no say in anything. You just rely on your dad's money to live, and that's your only personality trait." Raven groans in response, the girls are taken aback, Christy studders and then begins to scream insults at her as others hold her back.
Raven continues walking to class and comes in as the screaming continues. She suddenly hears running coming her direction, she turns to look to see Christy running at her, and before Raven could react, she was punched in the face and hit a wall. Christy began to beat up Raven in the middle of the classroom, as everyone watched. Raven was taken aback, she let Christy beat her up, bruised and bloody, she was angry, Christy was screaming insults as she beat the hell out of Raven.
Before Raven passed out, a teacher stopped Christy and held her off of Raven, who was drifting in and out of consciousness.
A month goes by,
Christy was expelled from school, ruining her academic carrier, and Raven was fully healed. She'd been attacked multiple times but got away before any serious damage was done. She wanted it to end, she wanted to get away from the village.
And that's when a flyer slipped into her door.
"Join the Military! Fight for your country and be known as a hero!"
Raven stared at it, coming to a decision. She was going to join the military.
She packed her bags and signed up to join. Wishing her family goodbye, and giving a final 'fuck you' to her tormentors, she was off to Bootcamp.
She trained there, getting good with guns and becoming extremely strong, she didn't like it much but persevered, coming out as one of the best members.
She fought hard, she rarely got letters from her family, and for once, felt free. She didn't mind the screaming, she was used to it, the pain only drove her determination higher as she continued to fight.
After graduation, she was alone. Nobody from her family showed up. She went to her first day of work, meeting a new person, Ambie.
Ambie was a weird one, she was a gazelle. Most creatures had developed human-like legs, but a small percentage of animals had under-evolved animal legs, Ambie was one of them. She said it was hard to walk and get used to, and she was made fun of for it, and this is where she and Raven bonded.
They partied together, had drinks together, they quickly became best friends, and Raven finally felt as if she was at home.
She never wrote to her family, and had cut most contact with them, and was jealous of Ambie's close relationship to her father, yet happy for it. Raven kept her distance from others but had more friends. All of them went drinking together, a small amount really, talking about what it's like in the military.
And then, the day came. A war had broken loose, and they were at the second line of defense. Fighting, and shooting, it was like a blood bath, yet Ambie and Raven persisted, fighting as best as they could.
First-line down, stuck behind a wall as they were shot at.
The helicopter to get them out of there had left thirty minutes ago and they were stuck on the battlefield. Raven and Ambie were badly injured, Raven crushed her arm and her leg was ripped off, her eye was grazed with a bullet and she couldn't see out of that eye. Ambie's arm was missing, her horns were gone and her snout was broken.
"So, we're going to die, huh?" Raven chuckles, pulling out a water flask and taking a sip. "I never got to experience what it's like without wings yet, but at least we both can fight until the end."
Ambie looks down at her legs. "If we do make it out of here, promise me something." She begs quietly, "Promise me that you won't remove your gorgeous wings. They're large and unique. They're bulletproof, they're a bonus for you, unlike my legs."
Raven looks at Ambie with confusion. Ambie stands up and loads her gun. "We probably won't make it out of here, and that's okay. I'm willing to die fighting." Raven's eyes widened, "But you can't! Where would I be in this world without you?!"
Ambie gives Raven a broken smile, "Hopefully, not here."
She runs out and begins to shoot, screaming as her machine gun begins to run out of bullets as Raven watches, shooting behind her as they were distracted, throwing a grenade at them and hiding behind the wall, taking another sip of water from her flask.
She stopped hearing shooting, and looks over to see Ambie laying on the ground, Raven gasped and grabbed her, diving into another wall.
"Ambie!? Ambie can you hear me?!" She yelled, the sound of gunshots and explosions filling the silence between the two. Ambie opened her eyes weakly, looking down at the gunshot in her chest.
"No no no no! You can't die on me, please!" Raven begged, her tears running down her face and dripping onto Ambie's.
Ambie smiles, "I'm glad that.... you're okay..." she says weakly, "Live... for me..." A final breath passes her lips, and she goes limp in Raven's arms, Raven begins to bawl, sobbing. She didn't want to be there anymore. She picks up Ambie with one arm and begins to limp back to her base, using her wings as protection.
Faster
Faster!
I must go faster!!
She stretches out her wings, going to a cliff and jumping off, her wings forming close together, stretching out once more, breaking the fall as Raven flaps up, sending her shooting into the air, spinning around and zooming off to the military base.
She was being shot at, hissing from pain but she kept going, not noticing that she was flying. A minute passes, she gets back, dropping onto the ground, wheezing, letting Ambie roll out of her arms as she waited for the paramedics to check them up.
Raven loses her vision, and everything goes black, she thought this was her demise, hating how quickly she broke Ambie's promise.
...
..
.
..
...
beep.... beep.... beep...
That sound, it was familiar. Raven opened her eyes, the light began to flood her vision as she looked around, confused. She looks to her sides, seeing people operate on her.
Her limbs fell weak once more, and she passed out one more time.
...
She awoke again, seeing her mother sitting there waiting for her to get up. "You're awake. Thank goodness, we were afraid you'd die!" Her mother shouts worried, confusion was in her mind, a nurse walks in and walks up to Raven.
"You've been all healed up, we decided to give you robotic replacements to your arms and legs, it was experimental, but a success." The nurse explained, "The biggest worry was your eye, can you see out of it?"
Raven wakes up fully, and nods, the nurse explains how her eye was now robotic. Her family began to smother her with shallow love, she pushed them off and got up, trying to keep her balance.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Her mother asks, Raven looks at her with disgust, "You didn't care about my well being until I was hospitalized trying to save my best friend." she spat at them, leaving the room.
'I'm going to pack my things off and live in the city, never to see this place ever again...'
And she did just that, she packed her things, and was preparing to leave. She wanted to check up on Christy though.
She knocked on her parent's door, the parents opened. "GAH! DEMON!" They hollered. "I'm just looking for Christy..." Her parents were frightened but calmed down.
"She moved out, she's living across town with her friend, we have no association with her anymore, now, g-go away!" They suddenly slammed the door shut on Raven, Raven rolls her eyes and begins to fly towards Christy's new place.
She knocked on her door, Christy answered, "Hey bad boy come back here for more?~" She was clearly drunk, and despite Raven's vest being open, with a sports bra on, she was still called a girl. It was confusing.
She found out Christy was a stripper and hooker now, her parents kicked her out for her sinful ways. Raven could care less, she grabbed her bags and left, giving the town the final 'fuck you' it deserved.
