Chez Tiresias

Annabeth P.O.V

The thing I've always admired about Thalia is the way she cuts right to the chase. She always says what she is thinking and doesn't mince her words.
Thalia had come right out and asked Luke what was wrong with him whereas I had been too nervous to say anything.
Luke had looked so irritable and I hadn't wanted to annoy him.
When I returned home from having dinner with Thalia and Luke, I had a terrible headache. From my mother, I inherited a tendency to get migraines.
"It's because our brains are too big for our skulls," she always said.
A/N I have a condition called a Chiari I malformation which is when you have an excess of brain tissue which extends out of the skull and into the spinal column. One of its symptoms is frequent headaches. I had a headcanon that children of Athena (my godly parent) suffer from this.
Katie, one of our maids, brought me some aspirin tablets and a glass of water. I took a cold bath and then changed into my favorite nightgown: the ivory silk trimmed with lace.

To help with my headache,  I drank a cup of camomille tea while I waited up for Percy's phone call.  I passed the time by reading Pride and Prejudice. It was very late, so I had a hard time keeping my eyes open.
"Miss Annabeth," Katie said, gently shaking my shoulder to wake me up. I had nodded off; Pride and Prejudice spread open on my lap.
A/N I'm considering writing a Percabeth version of Pride and Prejudice. What do you think of this idea?
"I'm awake," I groaned.
"There's a phone call for you downstairs, Miss."
"Thanks, Katie."

The house telephone is in the entrance hall, so, yawning, I went downstairs to take my call.
"Hello," I said, a loud yawn contorting my face.
"Did I keep you up, Wise Girl?" Percy said on the other end. I could just about picture his smirk.
"For the record, Seaweed Brain, you did."
"Well, we made it safely across the border."
"I'll stop worrying when you've made it back over safely, without getting the police after you."
"Don't worry, Annabeth, this isn't my first time around. Besides, Leo can out drive anyone."
"Promise me you'll be careful, Percy."
"I promise, Wise Girl. Good night."
"Goodnight, Seaweed Brain."
I hung up the telephone and went back upstairs. When I climbed into bed, sleep broke over me like crashing waves.

Luke P. O. V

When the Princess Andromeda docked back in Montauk, I drove Annabeth and Thalia back to the Parthenon. Then I found myself back at the Montauk docks.
I went over to a bar near the waterfront: a seedy dive frequented by sailors and other such riffraff. A girl sat at a table by the window and she waved over to me. She was tall and slim and wore her hair in snake-like pin curls. Her face was pretty but caked with too much smoky eye makeup and burgundy colored lipstick. She was weighed down with rhinestone jewelry and wore a bronze colored satin dress with a matching turban.

"Hey, handsome," she called to me, taking a sip of her Manhattan. From the way she slurred her words, I could tell that this wasn't her first drink.
"Hello Kelly," I replied.
"Come sit with me," she crooked a finger at me, "I already ordered another Manhattan, your favorite."

I sat down at the table with Kelly.  A waitress brought me a Manhattan, which I took a healthy sip from. The alcohol helped steady my nerves, which had been on edge for days.
"Do you have what I'm looking for?" I  asked Kelly.
She lifted up her skirt to reveal a small bag of cocaine strapped to her leg by her garter.
"It's all for you, Mr. Castellan," she giggled loudly.
I pulled her skirt back down before anyone else could notice that she had drugs on her.
"I don't think I'm the only one who's ever been under that skirt."
"Oh, Luke, you know my heart belongs to only you."
"Anyways, how much for the stuff?"
"twenty dollars," Kelly kissed me on the lips, "And if you'd like something more, that'll be another twenty dollars."
I handed Kelly forty dollars.
"Let's go upstairs."

The bar had bedrooms on the floor above it which could be rented for the night. Kelly poured two lines of cocaine onto the dressing table, which we snorted up using rolled up dollar bills. It had been a while since my last fix and I couldn't tell you how much I needed this. This was the first time I had felt like myself in days. I felt blissful and full of energy: like I could take on the world.
Kelly kissed me again and brought me over to the bed. She was just as dangerous and addictive as the cocaine.
Though Kelly was in my arms, I couldn't stop thinking about Annabeth.
Annabeth, with her golden hair and porcelain skin, and her fierce, intelligent grey eyes that lit up whenever she talked about her friends, family, or whatever architecture project she was working on. Wise, beautiful, passionate Annabeth. She was a girl worth cleaning up one's act for but I could never be worthy of her.
Once the high from the cocaine and my lust for Kelly subsided, I was left hating myself. I used to be better than this.
Kelly sat up in bed. She was wearing a black lace brassiere and underpants.

She stood up, put her dress back on, grabbed her things and left.
"Kronos says hello," she said as she walked out the door. She was out the door before I could strangle her.  As if I could forget that Kronos Titan owned my family's soul.
The Castellan family that the world saw in the society papers was Hermes Castellan, one of the wealthiest men in the country,  his glamorous and somewhat eccentric wife, May, and Luke, their handsome and charming son, a possible future New York state senator. What they never heard about were my dad's gambling problem and ties to the Titan bootlegging operation, my mother's frequent vacations in the Catskills (at the Saint Lyssa Mental Hospital),  and my own cocaine addiction. The amount of dirt Kronos Titan had on my family could fill the Grand Canyon and the pile kept getting higher.
When I pictured my life as I wanted it to be, I saw myself as a New York senator with Annabeth as my loving wife. My family's money could probably get me my Senate seat but Annabeth was a girl with her own dreams and ambitions and I was a coke-addled mess who would never be good enough for her.  I knew she loved me, but only as a brother and even if that wasn't the case, I would only make her miserable.

Nico P.O.V

I made it to Chez Tiresias about ten minutes before eleven o'clock and sat down at a table near the stage. My view was blocked by a tall centerpiece of crystal beads and ostrich feathers. In between the tables were silver painted palm trees which shone in the candlelight which also made the crystals in the centerpieces sparkle.

The master of ceremonies came on stage and announced the next performer: Little Miss Sunshine. A statuesque, angel-faced blonde wearing a gold beaded dress and turban and a mink-trimmed cape appeared and began to sing  You The Are My Sunshine.

"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms,"  she sang, "But when I woke dear, I was mistaken and I hung my head and cried. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
Little Miss Sunshine shot a wink my direction and slid off her mink trimmed which she threw into the audience. She gave me another wink and fluttered her eagle feather fan.

"I'll always love you and make you happy if you will only say the same. If you leave me to love another, you'll regret it all someday. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
She removed the lower part of her skirt, making her dress shorter, to show off her long, shapely legs. With legs like those, one could forget that Little Miss Sunshine wasn't really a woman.

"You told me once dear, you really loved me, that no one else could come between. But now you've left me to love another; you have shattered all my dreams. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
Little Miss Sunshine took a bow when she had finished her song and the audience applauded.

After the show, I went to the stage door.
"Nico," a voice called to me.
Little Miss Sunshine, now dressed as a man, came out.
"You were great tonight, Will," I said to him.
"Thanks."
He kissed me and we walked off together. Both of us looked around to see if anyone had seen us kiss.
Will performed at Chez Tiresias as Little Miss Sunshine in order to pay for medical school and if anyone found out, his chances of ever having a successful practice would be slim.  If anyone found out that I was sneaking around with a drag queen, they would lose all respect for my family. So we had to keep our relationship a secret.
Will took my hand and kissed it. He laughed when he saw my skull cufflink.
"A bit much, don't you think, Ghost King?" he said.

Reyna P.O.V

I ran into Nico Di Angelo while I was making my rounds that night. The kid was like a little brother to me, though we were on opposite sides of the law, so I asked him how he was.
Will Solace was with him and he was smiling. Nico'd had a rough life: losing his mother and big sister when he was just a little kid and living with a father who wasn't always the warmest person. I was glad Solace made him happy.
That night was first on the beat. I had just finished my training at the Police Academy and was assigned to the precinct where my sister, Hylla, was a sergeant, the first female, the first Puerto Rican, and the youngest in the city of New York.
Hylla said that my new uniform suited me and I'd never felt prouder of myself.
A/N I couldn't find a picture of a police woman's uniform from this time period but I imagine that Reyna's uniform would look like something between these two different uniforms: the first one is from the turn of the century (when US police departments starting allowing female officers) and the other is probably from the 1960s.

I saw no longer just "Reyna" but rather "Officer Ramirez-Arellano."
A man and a girl came walking down the street. The man was tall and imposing and wore an expensive looking suit. The girl, who was roughly twenty or thirty years younger than him, wore a red satin evening dress with a back and neck that were so low it was embarrassing.

They stopped under a streetlight and I could see their faces more clearly. The man had thinning and greying brown hair and serious face with a thin, unpleasant looking mouth. The girl had chocolate brown hair cut in a choppy bob and eyes whose color I couldn't quite make out.
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
It took me a moment to figure it out but I recognized the girl. Her name was Piper and she was seeing Jason Grace. I had been friends with Jason for practically my entire life and at one point I thought we could be more than friends. That was until I heard that he had fallen for some floozy who sang in a speakeasy. A floozy who was apparently two-timing him with someone richer.
