Chapter 1

Who is ready for this thing to get started?

♡♡♡♡♡♡◇♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

In the outside world, there is always something chasing you. You don't even have to see it or hear it, your natural life given instincts can tell you when something isn't right. You'll run for safety, for as long as you can to get away from whatever is after you.

Eventually your chaser would grow bored or run after a much less fortunate prey. That's what it's supposed to be, just run and survive. Why couldn't he have been that lucky?

Mono pressed his hand to the TV screen, the familiar fuzzy feeling from the screen and his powers making his fingertips tingle. The slow footsteps behind him only made his racing heart beat faster.

Come on! Come on!

Seconds later, the screen turned white, taking him back into the gross fleshy transmission. He glanced over, seeing the yellow eyes he was both use to but still unsettled by. A heartbeat later, he was spat out by a different TV this time.

He sat up, panting heavily as he tried to take in his surroundings. Another damn apartment, this time it didn't look like he was alone. Off to the side he saw a Viewer staring into another TV just a few feet away from him. Lucky break it seemed like, at least he didn't make it angry.

Okay, escape route, annny escape routes? Oh, there's one up there, just a small climb away, shouldn't be that hard. He didn't waste anymore time, hurrying under a window, climbing up onto a chest in front of it.

The sound of the TV buzzing as something seemed to be exited from it made him let out a groan. Just go away, mister TV man, he really didn't need this right now!

Mono pulled himself onto the window sill, forcing the window up with a small bit of effort. The air filled with the soft sound of white noise, his action slowing down as the feeling of static electricity made his hair want to stand up from under his precious paper bag.

He rolled out from under the window, landing onto and sliding down an overhang. The rain water made the metal slick under him, grim making his coat and pants dirty. He let out a small shriek as he slid to the edge, grabbing onto it before he could fall.

His eyes looked up to look through the glass, seeing the same glare he saw every time he escaped from the weird TV man. Cheekily, Mono stuck his tongue out at him from under his bag. Nice try TV man, but he wasn't planning on being caught today!

He looked down, seeing it was relatively a short drop down to the wet ground below him. He let go, landing on the hard concrete, a small shot of pain going up his back. Okay, not as short as he thought it was-

He took a moment to recover, before looking back up. The overhang shielded a small store underneath it, a dirty cracked glass window with letters Mono couldn't read. He could see TVs on the display window though, so maybe it was a-

Wait, TVs? Uh oh, oh no-

Just as he realized it, the stack of TVs flickered to life, the blacked out outline of a man walking to the screen making Mono let out a small shiek.

He quickly turned, darting down the sidewalk in an attempt to get maybe lose the man before he pulled himself out from the screen. The raindrops pelted on him, his coat luckily waterproof, though his pants and shirt were getting cold and wet from the mist the rainwater brought.

His bag was also getting a bit wet, but it's been through worst, so he wasn't fully worried about it. Right now he just had to get away, cause this freaking guy won't leave him alone!

The edges of his vision turned a soft blue, creeping along to the front, his legs suddenly moving once again in slow motion. Before when he first ran into him, he was on the verge of screaming at seeing how slow he was. He could very easily get caught, but it seemed like it didn't really matter as bean pole man is also very, very slow.

Mentally, he shivered at the thought of how fast that skinny Michael Jackson impersonator  could have been with legs that long. No one in this God forsaken world he lived in didn't need to have legs that quiet literally went all the way up.

He spotted an alleyway just a few feet in front of him, and from the sound up ahead, a TV was in it as well. He looked back, seeing the man slowly walk down the sidewalk, his head low as the rain poured down on him as well, his fedora dripping rainwater, dark eyes glaring at him once again.

Mono turned the corner, able to pull himself away from the man's powers for a second. TV, TV, where was it, OH COME ON-

He looked on top of the dumpster, seeing the TV he had been hearing resting on its lid. He grumbled as he looked at the stack of boxes and trashcans next to it, finding himself having no other option but to climb them.

He pulled himself onto the first box, the cardboard easily binding under his light weight on top of it. He hopped onto the silver trashcan lid, before letting out scream as a bundle of fur exploded from it, an angry raccoon hissing as it climbed out from the can, running off into the alley.

The soft sounds of the man's footsteps snapped him back into reality. Gotta hurry, gotta hurry.

He climbed back onto the trashcan, balancing on the wobbly lid, before climbed onto the dumpster. His vision started to turn blue again, his arms slowly pulling him up. He got to his feet, looking over, seeing the growing reflection of the man along the rippling sidewalk water.

Mono ran to the TV, placing the hands once more onto the screen. This time, he had to get far away, and he wasn't talking just-down-the-block far. He was tired of running, he just wanted to leave this stupid-

Before he knew it, the TV swallowed him back up. He flipped and turned in the transmission, eyes watching him likely always. This time, he wasn't immediately spit out, it took him much longer in the transmission that he was use to. For a moment, he wondered if the TV man would catch him here, was he following him again?

After a few more seconds, he was finally spat out- no, take that back, he was ninety percent sure this time it launched him out by how far he was send flying before crashing into the floor.

He gave a groan, weakly pushing himself up. He felt lightheaded, but it didn't really matter. He opened his eyes, seeing rough, splintering, wooden floorboards under him. He looked up, seeing stacks of books all around him. A library? He didn't know the city even had one.

He stepped out of the room he was in, making sure to leave the TV before tall and skinny could see him through the screen. He stepped out, seeing more shelves, miscellaneous items strewn on them. Blocks, cans, bottles, books, more books, a candle, even more books.

Okay, definitely in a library. He started to make his way around the different shelves, looking around him. Seemed like a pretty deserted place, or at least recently abandoned. Despite the eerie silence, Mono noticed there were not nearly as many cobwebs or dust on things than in other buildings.

The sound of something behind him scuttling made him jump, turning around. Something small ran by, ducking into the shadows, making Mono's heart race. What the hell was that? Another one ran behind him, then another, then another. Great, now it looks like he's surrounded.

He narrowed his eyes under his bag. He felt his hands tremble slightly, but he tried to still them, puffing out his chest as he rose his voice, hoping to scare whatever was around him off.

"H-Hey! I know you're out there! You better leave, or I'll beat you up!" That sounded dumb, great, now he just sounded like an idiot in front of mon-

Mono let out a small scream as he was tripped over by something, snickering and loud laughed behind him. He groaned, holding his now aching head, looking over his shoulder.

Behind him were two small, gray creature, practically rolling on the floor in a fit of laughter. Cone shaped hats were on their heads, flopping slightly as they let out barks of pure laughter and giggles.

Two more were not that far away from him, both having a small piece of rope in their hands. Well, that explained what tripped him, by whatever these things were.

He got up, glaring at them and giving a small growl. The noise made the things stop, before running off down the way he was going. Oh ho ho, hell no, get your little asses back here-

Mono gave chase after the gray creatures, having to jump and scale down a very tall shelve with probably a billion books on them. He heard the small creatures drop onto a desk under him, jumping down to the carpet on the floor.

The boy got to the desk, giving an annoyed growl as the creatures ran off in all different directions. He dropped down onto the ground, starting to chase after one that was running through a doorway.

He entered it, seeing many knocked over and destroyed grandfather clocks. Some of the boards were flipped over, rusted nails barely glinting from a light overhead, to the point they almost blended into the boards.

Mono carefully jumped over a few, continuing to chase the very surprisingly quick pest. It was small enough to squeeze between the nails, which made catching it more tricky since it didn't have to actively keep running around them.

Soon the small creature was slowing down, presumably tiring out from all of its running. Mono smirked, just a little more, and he'll have the little sicker in his-

When Mono put his foot down, the board under him went loose. The end of the plant shot up, two glittering nails on the end flashing before him before he let out a scream of pain.

He clench his eyes shut, unbelievable pain making him scream as he covered them. He pressed his hands to them, feeling blood beginning to cover his hands, messing the inside of his bag.

He tried to open his eyes, but all he was was darkness and the color red, stumbling in shook from the sudden, unexpected attack from the board. He stepped back, only to scream again as he stepped onto another nail, this time right through his foot.

He dropped down on his rear, pulling back and freeing his foot from the nail. The shock in his system helped numb the pain, but his eyes continued to blaze was unspeakable
pain.

He didn't hear the creature let out an alarmed noise, running off, and seeming to call for help. His head ached as he desperately pressed against his eyes to stop the bleeding. He tried again to open his eyes, but unlike the last time, all he saw was darkness.

He couldn't see anything, couldn't even see his on hand that was pressed to his face. His heart raced in his chest. If he couldn't see now, what if he couldn't see again? What if he was stuck this way forever?

He could barely make out the sound of footsteps coming to him, three sets of them. One was a more soft, lighter pair, possibly one of those gray pests, while the others were slightly heavier and more agile.

He felt a hand on his knee, making him let out a small scream. He fumbled, scooting back to get away from whatever was in front of him. The sound of one of the gray pest's soft clicking noise told he was right on his theory. He just didn't know what the other two was. Small monsters? Kids? Probably kids, actually.

His last few run-ins with other kids normally never ended good though. It would normally end them having a fight or the other kid would try and steal from him. If these were other kids, what were they going to do to him?

A quiet, unusually shaky, almost uncertain voice caught his ears. "Is okay, we no hurt." It sounded like the kid, a boy Mono guessed by the sound and tone of the voice. It was like he had trouble speaking, like he wasn't sure himself of what he was saying.

"Is okay, we no hurt," he said again. Mono recoiled as he felt a hand gently touch his injured foot, probably the other kid checking out his wounds. Maybe they were planning on stealing from him, kids were known to lie like that.

"Is hurt?" Yes, he was hurting! What the hell, did you thing he was fine? Mono could only nod his head.

"Where is hurt?" Genius, you're the one who could see-

Slightly annoyed, Mono pointed to his eyes and where he hoped he was pointing to his foot, which was now starting to get feeling back in it.

"Hurt else?" Mono shook his head, no. The boy went quiet after that; Mono not sure what was happening in front of him.

He suddenly felt two pairs arms carefully pull him up, one kid on each side hoisting him up. "You be fine, get help," the boy, which was to his right, said. The kid to his left was silent and hadn't said a word yet.

Slowly but carefully, they helped him walk somewhere. Where? He had no idea. The two didn't say a word as they helped him. With each step, Mono whinced in pain as his foot pressed onto the ground, even when he held it up it still hurt from where the nail stabbed him.

After what felt like forever, he heard noises. More gray pests could be heard, along with kids talking as well. A gasp was heard as he guessed he was brought into view with the help from the others.

"The Angels found someone!"

"They look hurt, quick, someone go get help!"

"Is that blood!"

Mono could almost sense the crowd that was forming around them. He didn't like this, he didn't like the fact he couldn't see what was going on.

He hung his head low, a sudden wave of exhaustion sweeping over him. He felt lightheaded, feeling like he was going to topple over on one of the kids under him. An urgent voice sounded in front of him, footsteps quick as the person ran to him.

"Deary me, they looks like they're going to faint. Six, Seven, take them to my office, I'll try to patch them up the best I can," said the voice.

The kids helped him hobble a few feet, before Mono eventually couldn't hold on much longer, feeling his mind slip from consciousness for a second. The kid to his left started to tug on his arm, holding him up before he could fall over, snapping him out of it for just a bit longer.

A couple of minutes passed, Mono barely able to slug his way, even with the help of the kids under him. They slowly eased him down onto what felt like a bed.

In no time, Mono felt himself pass out.

I probably should have added a warning at the top... whoops.

I tried to be funny, but I might have failed at my attempts.

Hope you all enjoyed!

Take care!
