The Fates Still Have It in for Me

Chapter Seventeen: The Fates Still Have It in for Me
Calypso's P.O.V.

ALL THE HEAD COUNSELORS were required to go to the Big House for some urgent meeting. Since now I was counselor for cabin Twenty Six(Atlas Cabin), I was actually invited to the meetings.

The twenty-first century had shocked me. Percy wasn't lying when he said that there weren't many gardens in New York. All this magical stuff called 'technology'. Apparently Hazel, one of the Roman demigods, felt the same way. She apparently was born seventy years ago, whilst I was born eons ago.

Ever since I arrived at camp, people have been nothing but kind to me. Some people were shocked about my heritage, but it hasn't bothered me much. But what really made me feel sad was Leo. He rescued me from my island just to go on a quest a week later?

I feel like I still bare my curse. I had fell in love with a boy he can't stay with me. As if the fates were on Olympus, looking down at me, laughing, 'You fall in love with Leo Valdez? Ha! Will we send him halfway around the world for ten months!'

When Leo first accepted the quest I was happy for him, but after a week I realized how long it would take him to come back. When we have Iris Messages, he says he can only talk for three minutes. He will barely tell me about his quest. All I know about it is that he's pretending to be a wizard in Europe? I mean, what the Hades!?

I have noticed other things over the past few months. After I left my island, I started growing taller. As if, I wasn't Immortal anymore. I quickly addressed Chiron, the leader of the camp and he had said, "You are Immortal, as long as Ogygia exists. Once you left.... It faded, gone. Therefore, you are now just a mortal. Though you are still a child of a Titan, so my theory is that you are like a demigod. Vulnerable to both monsters and mortals. I am sorry my dear."

I haven't heard from Leo for about nine days. Though, when we last spoke he said something about 'Holiday Break'. Could that possibly mean he's coming back?

I trudge my way to the Big House and sit down at the ping pong table without a second thought, not looking up. Then it occurred to me, something was wrong. Nobody was arguing like they usually were. Most of the time before a meeting, everyone was tense. But today, they were different, they were acting eager.

I look at the other counselors. I see Travis Stoll, co-head counselor for the Hermes Cabin, he's staring expectantly at the door. That's not normal for him.

"Uh, just out of curiosity, would anyone mind telling me what the Hades is going on?" I ask.

"You don't know yet?" Clarisse from the Ares Cabin asks, "I would expect you of all people to know already."

"Well?" I ask.

"Your boyfriend's coming back," Drew said as if it were obvious. Technically, it retrospect, it was obvious.

"Really?" I ask.

"Yep," Nyssa says. "Everyone comes back to Camp for winter break. Even if they are attending a school in Europe full of Hecate's spawn."

"They're not Hecate spawn," Lou countered automatically. "They're witches and wizards."

Nyssa snorts, "Isn't that the same thing?"

"No," Lou says annoyingly. "They were blessed by my mother. There's an obvious difference."

"Whatever," Nyssa says with a smile.

"Don't you mean 'witchever'?" Connor asks her.

"Travis, I swear that is the worst pun I've ever heard," Malcom says.

"I'm Connor!" He exclaims.

"Gods, okay. Calm down," Malcom says in defense.

"When are they going to be here?" Clovis, from the Hypnos Cabin asks sleepily.

"Well, they had to move their stuff back into their cabins, so I assume it's probably going to be about an hour, because Prissy always takes forever," Clarisse snarls at him.

"Well, you're mean," Clovis mutters.

"What did you just say?" Clarisse asks.

"Clarisse, lay off him," Will says.

"No way Solace," she says standing up, "I'll be back with Maimer."

"I advice you not to do that," Drew says. I can here the sorcery in her voice. Clarisse is hesitant, but she sits down. Most everyone(including the Stolls) starts laughing at her.

'You're next,' Clarisse mouths to the daughter of Aphrodite. Yep, we have the arguments, terrible puns, and death threats. Typical meeting at Camp Half-Blood.

Right then the door creaks open and there stands Chiron. Behind him are six figures. Annabeth, who've I've only talked to once, which was right before she left for the quest. Then there was Percy. Next there was Jason, who was holding hands who I'm assuming is his girlfriend, Piper. Then there was the son of Hades, whose name I think is Nick. No not Nick, Nico.

Then I see him. Short and scrawny as ever. His untamed, curly, black hair. His strange, but beautiful grin.

"Leo," I say, not paying attention to my surroundings.

"Calypso," He says. At this moment, he looks twice as happy than when he did when he rescued me from Ogygia. That's how I felt. Nothing could ruin this day.

He takes the vacant seat to my left. All I wanted to do was to stare into his eyes. I wanted to talk. I wanted to ask him about his quest. But Chiron had arrived and it was time to start the meeting.

"I have called this meeting- as you know- to discuss the progress of the current quest."

"Yeah, how is that going?" Leo asked smirking.

"Leo," Piper says hitting him the arm approvingly. I suddenly feel a pang of jealousy. I know that Piper is dating Jason, and that she would never date Leo. But, they just seem so close. It pains me to think how much time these past few months a could've been getting to know Leo more. While Piper, gets to see him everyday and actually have real conversations with him.

Not that all conversations with Leo are enjoyable though.... 'My precious Sphere!' I do know for a fact though that I have nothing to worry about. Leo will come back once the quest will be over, and the quest will be over by this summer.... Hopefully.

"Well, Leo," Chiron says, "why don't you tell me."

"Huh?" He says, "Oh yeah, the quest. Well, it's going okay I think."

"Dude, can we get some detail here?" Clarisse asks.

"We might as well start from the beginning of the quest," Annabeth says, taking over for Leo. She explained how Hecate had met them in London and how they made the journey to Hogwarts. Annabeth described the classes very accurately. I could already tell I had a liking for Herbology, but I didn't dare interrupt her. I wanted to know as much as I could about this strange quest.

She finally got to the part about 'Dumbledore's Army' and Nico took over. He told of how some of the wizards were starting to grow suspicious of us. Then, he told the strange story of how Harry had woken up having visions of a snake.

"A demigod dream?" Katie asked, "I thought that dreams like that only happened to us."

"It could be Hypnos messing with him," Lou said glaring at Clovis who was drooling on the table.

"Wha-?" He slurred dreamily.

"CLOVIS!" Travis said banging his hand on the table. Clovis jumped straight up gazing back at everyone who was staring at him.

"What'd I do?" He asked.

"Nothing really," Connor said.

"Lemme sleep then..." He said.

"Real quick, before you go back to sleep," Annabeth said all in one breath.

"Whasamater?" He slurred.

"Is it possible for mortals- sorry wizards- to have Demigod dreams?"

"Uhh.... No. Not really."

"Then why-"

"Look Annabeth," Percy said, "this is our only break from the quest right now. And things always work themselves out in the end. How about we just let things play out for once."

"But-"

"But we still have until the end of the school year for this quest. After that, the two of us cannot go back. They will literally not let us go back! I know we can do this. Are you with me or not?"

"I'm with you," Piper says.

"So am I," Nico agrees.

"Even though I'm not apart of this quest," I say, "I do kind of agree."

"I do see your point, but don't you see we are just making problems for ourselves in the future?" Annabeth protests.

"Look, Annabeth," says Nyssa from across the table, "no one knows whats going to happen. It's like Percy said, things work themselves out sometimes."

"Pretty strange coming from the daughter of Hephaestus," Connor jokes.

"Oh was that a joke? I thought children of Hermes were supposed to have common sense not- oh nevermind."

The bickering started up again. I watched as the conselors started picking fights with each other. At one point, Chiron called order by stomping his foot into the floor.

"I think at this point-" he sighed, "-that's it's best that we all return to our normally scheduled activities. Meeting, ajourned."
