Everyone's Invisible!
Chapter Twenty-Six: Everyone's Invisible!
Annabeth's P.O.V.
GRYFFINDOR WON. The last weekend of May was full of parties in the common room, which I was certain to avoid. Gryffindor had just won against Ravenclaw in Quidditch, thus winning the Quidditch season. The Quidditch Cup.
"Don't you think it's a little too loud in here?" I asked Percy, as we stood at the edge of room.
He looked up at me and asked, "What?"
"Don't you think it's too loud?" I raised my voice a little.
"Oh," Percy said. "Yeah."
"Follow me." I held out my hand. Even though he may not have heard me, he understood. Together we weaved through the crowd of students and made it out the portrait hole. We stood facing each other, just outside the common room. You could hear the humming of voices coming through the door.
"Don't you think we could be overheard?" Percy asked me, "We are out in the open."
"So? We're next to the portrait. We have a clean view of whoever comes in and out that door."
"But still... I saw Flitwick talking to some sixth year Ravenclaws about prefect duties."
"And why would they be over here? Listening to two totally average Gryffindor students conversation. Honestly Percy, you've been spending too much time with me. You're worrying. I'm supposed to be worrisome one, and you're supposed to be Kelp Head. It'll be fine."
He paused a moment before replying, "You're right, Wisegirl. I guess it's not like it will matter if we're caught. The NEWTs are on Monday, and from that point on, it'll be over. No more wizard school for us, and we'll never have to see any of the people in this Hades hole ever again."
I stopped and put my hands on his shoulders, "Hogwarts... certainly has been an experience. But I want Camp. In other-words, Jackson, you couldn't have said it better."
I leaned in to kiss him and our lips met. I felt that warm feeling in my stomach that I always felt when I kissed Percy Jackson. After about a minute I pulled away, finding myself staring right into his bright green eyes.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" he asked me.
"Hmm... about three times a day, at the least." I smiled.
"Ah, shut up. I love you."
"Same to you." I grabbed his hand. "It sounds like the party's dulled down a little bit. Want to go back?"
"Sure."
* * *
The NEWTs were terrible. I didn't understand half of the questions on any of the written tests, I probably failed my potions, and when it came to casting spells... I didn't even want to get into that. At the beginning, I at least had some confidence I would do well. But now I'd lost all hope. I guess... I'm just not the right person for magic. I wonder if Mom would be disappointed in me.
On the bright side, I didn't burn all my hair off like Percy. Okay, yeah. That didn't actually happen, thank the Gods. But I think it's safe to say that it almost happened. He was terrible at memorizing spells. Though for me, the tables were turned in the opposite direction; I was great at remembering them.
"I wish you three good luck on the OWLs," I told Piper, Leo, and Nico on the weekend before the fifth year tests started. "If it's anything like the NEWTs...."
"You'll fail miserably like us and never have the faith to look McGonagall in the eyes again when she sees that you didn't even have the power to transfigure your hair a different color; which is apparently one of the simplest standards on the Transfiguration NEWT," Percy said solemnly.
There was a moment of awkward silence before Leo lost it.
"Excuse me, what?" He started to laugh.
"True story," I said as Piper and Nico joined in on the laughter.
"I already know I'm going to fail," said Leo, "but I doubt that ever happening to me."
And so the week went on, nothing too exciting occurring until Wednesday of the second week of exams. That was when the whole of the fifth year witnessed Hagrid being sacked and McGonagall being placed in St. Mungo's, which I found out was basically a hospital for wizards.... It was nice to know there was Professors such as her willing to fight for people like Hagrid, and then there was Umbridge who set those men on him in the first place.
I still needed to get my revenge on that toad. But of course, the person who kept sneaking nifflers into her office was already doing it for me.
But it was when Piper ran into the Common Room after the last exam to find me everything changed. I had been sitting by the empty fireplace reading a book I had found on Divination. I would've been in the library, but the Common Room was empty so I didn't see the need to. I was only on the second chapter, seeing as how long it took me to piece the words together, due to my dyslexia. She came tumbling through the portrait hole, eyes wild.
"It happened. The vision I saw in Katoptris."
"What?" I had no clue what she was talking about whatsoever. Something she had seen in Katoptris... had just happened. This couldn't be good.
"What do you mean, 'what'?" she asked frantically.
"You never told me about any visions in Katoptris," I told her slowly.
"I didn't? I swear I did. Anyway, Harry passed out in the middle of the test. He wouldn't stop screaming... and they took him to the Hospital Wing."
"But... what the Hades happened?" I whizzed my head around the room to check we weren't being overheard.
"Like I'd know," Piper crossed her arms.
"Well there must've been something...."
There was a moment of silence between us before she spoke once more, "Where's Percy?"
"I don't know. He said he was going to check out the lake before we left. And what about the other two? Where are they?"
"Other two... Nico and Leo. Right. Uh... I kind of told them to keep an eye on Harry."
"That can be a good thing... or a bad," I said. "Shall we go find them?"
We ran through the corridors, not missing a beat. We had to catch up with Nico and Leo. They were following Harry, and if he saw them.... let's just say that I knew the two of them weren't particularly the best actors. Finally, we arrived at the Hospital Wing, where Leo and Nico were just outside.
"Harry just left," Leo told Piper. That was odd, I didn't see him on the way here.
"Great," Piper said. "He could be anywhere by now. Unless..."
"Unless what?" I asked.
"I may know where he may be. In another vision I saw him and Hermione in a corridor near Umbridge's office. You were there with your Yankee's cap."
"So?" I asked.
"Somehow you're going to be there. I learned in Rome that you can't prevent what you already know is going to happen."
* * *
So there I was, waiting at the end of a corridor with my Yankee's cap in hand. According to Piper, in this vision Harry and Hermione were using some kind of cloaking fabric as a disguise. This is where I found out what they were up to.
I quickly put the cap on as I saw the two of them approach down the opposite end of the corridor. They quickly disappeared from my sight, as they slipped back into an indention in the wall. Still invisible, I quickly moved to the other side of the corridor to get a better view of them.
But what was odd, was that the crowd around the corner started to vanquish. Then, I heard a familiar girl's voice carry down towards where I was standing.
"No, sorry, you're going to have to go round by the swiveling staircase, someone's let off Garroting Gas just along here..." For some reason Ginny Weasley was helping Harry and Hermione with a distraction. What were they up to?
I looked back over at the alcove in the wall... only to discover neither of them were standing there. How could they have slipped past me? Wait, they can also turn invisible. Styx. I thought I'd lost them for good when I noticed Umbridge's door snap shut.
It made no sense to me why they would want to sneak inside her office. There was nothing in there that I knew of that could be useful. Unless... could they be the one's sneaking in the nifflers? No. They couldn't be. Hermione Granger would never do that.
I didn't have much time to think when I saw Umbridge herself coming back towards her office. Hades... She was followed closely behind by a group of five Slytherins who seemed to be restraining Ron, Ginny, and Luna. And at that, I knew I had to get out of there. Umbridge was going to discover Harry and Hermione in her office... and I knew shouldn't be anywhere near here when that did happen.
I made sure to report to Piper and the others what I had seen. I also took the time to catch Percy up. But the scariest thing about the situation... I never saw any of them return to the Common Room that night. I only saw Harry the next morning.
We were sitting in the Great Hall once more, both OWLs and NEWTs were over and everybody seemed to be in a good mood. Until a black owl flew into the hall, which was odd because owls weren't to have arrive yet.
I was more shocked when the strange owl came to a halt in front of Piper, dropping a package in front of her.
"What-" she picked up the package slowly and examined the wrapping. "It's from Hecate."
And at the exact moment, I saw a certain black-haired boy pass the doors of the Great Hall. It puzzled me why Harry was avoiding the Hall completely....
Me: I do not own any of the characters. All characters either belong to Rick Riordan or J.K. Rowling.
Piper: How come I never get my own Disclaimer? It's mostly Harry, Percy, Nico, and Leo. Am I just... ignored or something?
Me: Piper you're a cool character. It's just, you're not as- what's the word? You're not as hilariously annoying as any of them.
Leo: But- but- annoying? What do you mean by that?
Calypso: Leo, look at a mirror. You'll figure it out....
Ron: Trust us Leo. This is an intervention.
Me: No it's not.
Leo: Wait, when did Ron get here?
Percy: Leo, be quiet. We're having an intervention.
Dionysus: Did I hear you say 'intervention', Peter? Please tell me Dad isn't making me go to another one of those. The last one was bad enough.
Everyone: *Backs away*
Whoa... that was a long chapter. Hope that made up for the lack of updates, even though it's very miserable and unedited. Also, last Thursday was my one year anniversary for this book. I guess that's cool.
