Caladrius

pl. Caladrius

In Roman mythology, the caladrius was a bird with snow-white plumage that lived in the houses of the kings and royalty. Caladrius are blessed with prognostic and healing abilities. It is believed that eating the thighs of a caladrius can cure a blind person. If a caladrius averts its eyes away from an ill person, the person ends up dying of that illness. If a caladrius continues stare, it inhales the disease of a person, flies up near the sun and exhales the disease which ends up incinerating it and healing the ill person. The manner in which it gave its prognosis represents how Christ turned his face away from unrepentant sinners. For those who repent he turned his face towards them, forgiving them. In Christian symbolism the Caladrius represents Christ, who is pure white and stainless, being completely unblemished by sin.

Citizens with a Caladrius birthmark on their shoulder have healing powers and can predict if an illness will end up killing a person or not.
