Skylor's back!
Later, all the ninja and Sensei Wu were eating dinner. Kai had cooked. He had gotten impatient and either burned or undercooked everything. It wasn't the best meal, but everyone was thankful that Cole hadn't made dinner.
There was a knock on the front door. "I'll get it!" Nya called and ran through the living room to the door. When she opened it, she smiled widely. "Skylor!" She exclaimed and gave her friend a big hug. Although they didn't talk a lot in the tournament of elements, Kai had dragged Nya to see Skylor several times and they were now pretty good friends.
When Kai heard the word 'Skylor' he sat bolt upright and turned as red as his outfit. He ran out of the room towards the smooth tone of her voice. The other ninja watched after him. Jay nudged Lloyd. "Do you think he notices his hand is on fire?" Jay said. "Wait for it.." Lloyd snickered. From the entrance hall they heard Kai say "Hi Skylor!" Then, "owowowowow!!!"
Jay and Lloyd burst into quiet laughter.
"Skylor!" Kai said once he regained his dignity. "What are you doing here?" "I'm just visiting some friends." She smiled and brushed past him with ease. Nya steadied her brother as his legs got wobbly and he blushed bright red. "Easy, tiger." She said under her breath and followed Skylor.
After Nya formally introduced Skylor to Pixal (who Zane had rebuilt), they all hung out in the living room together. Jay and Lloyd started a video game tournament. Zane and Pixal sat next to each other on the couch, content to just relax. Nya chatted with Skylor as Kai tried to interject into the conversation, and Cole sat alone, feeling left out as he often did as a ghost. "This is your own fault." He reminded himself. Still, he wished that Nya would talk to him more. She avoided him ever since she unlocked her true potential. Cole knew she was scared of killing him with her water powers. But it was killing him more that Nya was so distant.
Days passed. Skylor stayed with them. Kai made several failed attempts to ask her out. He wondered if she even still liked him. Cole wondered the same about Nya. Although Jay had accused him of only jumping on the Nya bandwagon when he found out they were a perfect match, the truth was he had always admired her. When he found out she was the samurai, he said he wished he had a sister like her, but he was thinking girlfriend. Sadly for him, she was already taken. But when they held hands in that trailer, Cole had felt a connection. And although Jay hadn't officially been dating Nya then, he leapt onto that connection and tried to break it several times. So although in his mind he was obviously a better choice for Nya, Cole was a man of honor and tried to never make a move on her again.
Cole sighed and watched as Jay tried to get Nya to let him feed her some ice cream. She tried to act serious but when Jay made a silly face she cracked up and allowed him to give her a bite. Cole would be the last to admit that he was extremely jealous.
Later that night, Kai was still wondering whether Skylor still liked him. Being the impulsive person that he was, Kai decided to find out with the first idea that popped into his head. He screamed.
Nya woke up to the sound of a scream. Panicking, she realized it was coming from her brother's room. Grabbing a weapon, she raced down the hall where she met Skylor at the door. They looked at each other, nodded, and then Skylor kicked down the door. Nya raced into the room. "What is it? Serpentine? Nindroids? Anacondrai cultists?" She stopped short when she saw that Kai was sitting in bed, unscathed. When she realized it was a trick, Nya burst into a long lecture about how immature it was to worry her like that. But Kai didn't pay attention. He was too distracted by the fact that Skylor had rushed to save him.
