Chapter 11
"Where did you come from?"
♢ ♢
I stood as the dragon was dealt with and Cedric was led away, probably to see Madam Pomfrey so she can heal his injuries. I wondered what was in the egg..
"The clue to the next level I heard" Draco chirped from next to me, his voice drifting into my ears.
I turned around, shock pulling me out of my daze. "Hm, what?" I asked, turning to face him.
He smiled slightly. "The egg, I've heard it has a clue for the next task in it. A riddle of sorts"
My brows raised. "Where'd you hear that? And where did you come from?" I asked my eyes wide as he slotted next to me again.
He shrugged it off. "Just rumor going about. I only went for a drink while everyone cheered for the 'great' Diggory" He rolled his eyes slightly as he said Cedric's name.
I continued to look at him. "Oh, really? You didn't say, you just headed off. Could've brought me one back, Malfoy"
"Ouch. Back to last name basis. Tough blow" He acted hurt but I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to the arena.
"I called you Malfoy earlier, and besides, it's rude to just walk away you know"
He scoffed and leant against the bars again. "And I have to inform you where I go all the time? Since when did you become my keeper?"
I rolled my eyes. "Can't I have nice Malfoy back for a little bit?"
"No" He said bluntly and harshly.
I shuffled away slightly, retreating. "Don't break the fall or anything will you" I muttered, more to myself than him.
He snarled slightly. "Whatever, Wales"
"Merlin's Beard, you're so hot and cold! One minute you want to tell me what's going on and next you're being like this! What do you want from me?" I asked sharply, my voice quick.
He turned to face me, spinning on his heel quick, grabbing my wrist to turn me so I was face to face with him. "I'm trying to protect you God dammit!" He snapped but his voice was low and quiet, in case anyone heard I suspected.
"From what, Draco?!" I growled in a low voice. He immediately let go of my wrist and hurried off. I called out to him a few times but he ignored me and continued walking, I considered following but decided not to, besides, we had to work on our Giant Wars project together, I could ask him then.
Now, let the Gryffindor party begin...
♢ ♢
Everyone crowded around Harry as he walked into the common room. Cuts all over his face. "Well done Harry!" People cheered as the Weasley twins picked him up -Much to his surprise.
"We knew you wouldn't quit, Harry!" Fred cheered.
"Lose an arm!" George grinned.
"Or a leg!" Fred cheered again until they both paused.
"Quit all together?" George smiled as everyone laughed.
"Never!" They chorused.
"Alright everyone, settle!" Seamus' weak attempt to get everyone to quieten down failed, and so, whilst laughing at him, I took over, raising my arms.
"Guys, guys!" Getting everyone's attention, mumbles being heard until the only thing that could be heard was Harry bright smile.
Seamus handed Harry the golden egg which appeared to have a starfish on top. A clue? Maybe. "Open it, Harry!" He begged, the egg shining as Harry peered at it.
Harry took a few moments to look at it, bathing in his victory. "Who wants me to open it?!" He teased.
There were loud shouts and not many words could be made out, but it was clear everyone wanted to see what was inside.
"You want me to open it?" He continued to tease and everyone shouted, this time louder. I was sure something like this happened at something muggles called Pantomimes, though I was never really sure what one was. Hermione tried explaining it to me once.
Harry laughed, giving in. He slowly twisted the starfish on top and it unfolded. As it unfolded a loud screeching sound came out, causing everyone to cover their ears -some even dropping to the floor. Seamus pulled me closer as I let out a small scream. He wrapped his arm around my back and tucked me into his side. Harry struggled to close the egg but once he did, everyone uncovered their ears and stood back up.
I nodded in thanks at Seamus as we pulled away.
"What the bloody hell was that?!" A voice called from the door. We all turned to see Ron, stood at the doorway with a confused look on his face.
Fred and George immediately stood up, shepherding everyone out of the common room and away from Harry and Ron. "Alright everyone....Erm...Go back to your knitting...This'll be uncomfortable as it is without you nosy sods listening in" George declared causing people to disperse and go about their daily business, which usually consisted of studying.
Me, Ron, Harry and the twins were left standing in the center of the common room. All they're eyes turned and looked at me.
I get the idea and decided I'd better leave. "I'll...be..I'll be going.." I pointed over my shoulder slowly.
Nobody said anything so I took that as my indication to leave. Instead I was going to the library to study for the history of magic homework that had to be in soon.
♢ ♢
When I reached the library it was practically deserted, with only a few bookworms sat -or stood- reading. I decided to search the isles for anything to do with our topic -Giant wars- It wasn't like I hated the subject as such, in fact the subject was okay, it was Professor Binns I didn't like, and more specifically, his way of teaching. He taught stood at the front of the classroom, constantly reading out of a book or boring us with tales from back when he was flesh and blood rather than a ghost.
Once I'd found a book named 'Giant Wars' I picked it up and looked at the blurb, to see if it was worth my time. As I continued reading, I heard the voice of Professor Binns.
"Ah, Miss Wales, how nice it is to see you" I tried to ignore him but he persisted and wasn't planning on leaving me alone so I turned around and put on a smile.
"Shouldn't you be celebrating with Mr Potter on what was a rather tremendous and most nerving battle?" Professor Binns popped in front of me.
I hesitated before answering. "Well, yes, I suppose so, but I thought I better get some studying in, before curfew" I stutter and spluttered, the book still in my right hand.
"And what subject is it that you have decided to come and study?" He asked. He was in a good mood, a better one than normal.
"Err.....I...Well..History of magic. I'm not very good at it, you see sir...." I sighed, giving in.
"Well, I for one disagree, I think you're rather good, Miss Wales...Any who, I should be off. Nice talking to you...Tatar" And with that he waved me goodbye and exited a brief chat. I furrowed my brows and shook my head, that was unusual.
I decided to that it was a good idea to go back to the common room and do some studying before curfew. But whilst I walked down the halls, I bumped into someone, sending us both tumbling to the ground and the large book I had picked up, flying in another direction.
I gasped as I fell on top of them and just as I was about to get up. A certain someone pranced around the corner.
Pansy squealed. "Get a room!" Draco scoffed as I looked up and turned to Pansy.
"They just bumped into each other, besides, I think Wales has her eye on someone else" He smirked slightly, glancing at me.
"Yeah but look, she bumped into The-Gryffindor-That-Can't-Whisper" And with that, I instantly knew who I had absentmindedly walked into. I looked down and saw Seamus, his face a deep shade of purple and red. I climbed off him and muttered a 'sorry' as I did.
Draco wandered towards me and offered me a hand as I picked up the book. "That for us?" He mumbled, obviously catching a glance at the title.
"I thought I'd do some light reading on it, for when we next meet up." I muttered as he stepped away.
"Come on, Draco! We're going to be late!" She whined as he looked at me, his eyes empty. He sighed and slipped out of his disguised trance and followed after her.
Once they left, I turned to face Seamus. "You okay?" I asked as he clambered to his feet.
"What in the Merlins Beard, was that?!" He shouted in outrage and shock.
I looked at my feet. "What was what?"
"Draco, helping you?" His eyes were wide as we strolled down the corridors to get to the common room.
I shrugged. "I don't know. Guess he was feeling nice.."
He scoffed. "Draco Malfoy doesn't feel nice. Don't know if you've forgotten that. But he doesn't" His accent emphasized all his words as we continued to trot towards the common room.
I shrugged, not knowing how to answer.
"I'm tired.." He said, changing the subject as we reached the common room, spending the last few minutes in silence.
In agreement, I nodded. "Me too. Time for bed maybe?" I chuckled as we both yawned.
Seamus nodded. "Oh yeah, definitely" I laughed at him and we separated to go to our dorms, however I spent the next few hours reading and looking out of the window, staring at the moon which seemed to stare right back at me.
