Chapter 18: The Cruelty Of The Diamonds (Part 1)
Just because the Star Forge runs off of suns, doesn't mean that the Authority's Droids do. So where does all that power come from? Why, from special plants that produce fuel.
Gems don't know how to grow crops since they didn't need to eat, and Droids definitely were out of the question. So there was one option left.
Humans.
During the war, as a way to get back at Rose Quartz, Black Diamond took DNA samples from hundreds of Humans, and with some testing, he managed to perfect the art of cloning. These Humans live in primitive huts, and have special earrings that tell them what to do during specific times of the day. They spend most of the day farming these plants, but if they...step out of line, they'll pay the price, leaving the others in tears.
The clones are purposely given a lifespan of 40 years, so whenever they are forced into a 20 year sentence, they may not have much time left. They spend their sentence building 50 foot statues of the tactical Droid Krios, and setting them up, or mining resources for Droid maintenance.
On this day, overseen by B-1s, hundreds of Human clones worked to the bare bone pulling up a statue in a large pit, under a hot sun.
(Singing starts at 1:21)
/(♪)\
Look down, look down,
Don't look 'em in the eye!
Look down, look down,
You're here until you die.
Statue Slave: The sun is strong! It's hot as Hell below!
Look down, look down,
There's twenty years to go.
Statue Slave: I've done no wrong! Sweet Alpha, here my prayer!
Look down, look down,
Sweet Alpha doesn't care!
Statue Slave: She does! I'll wait! I know that she is true!
Look down, look down
They've all forgotten you!
Statue Slave: When I get free, you won't see me 'ere for dust!
Look down, look down
Don't look 'em in the eye!
Statue Slave: How long, Alpha...before you let me die?!
Look down, look down,
You'll always be a slave!
Look down, look down,
You're standing in your grave.
Once it was in place, and the clones were going back to their cells, Krios, along with a pair of B-2s, the grey Droids, approached a Human with tan skin, and long black hair.
Kiros: Now, Clone-24601, your time is up and your parole's begun. You know what that means.
24601: Yes, it means I'm free...
Krios: No. It means you get your Ticket-of-Warning. You are a thief.
24601: I stole a ration card!
Kiros: You robbed an outpost.
24601: I broke a scrub unit.
24601: My wife's child was close to death. We were starving!
Krios: You will starve again. Unless you learn the meaning of the law.
24601: I know the meaning of those 19 years...a slave of the law!
Krios: Five years for what you did. The rest because you tried to run. Yes, 24601.
David: My name is David Young.
Krios: I am Kiros. Do not forget my name. Do not forget me, 24601...
Look down, look down,
You'll always be a slave!
Look down, look down,
You're standing in your grave...
After that exchange, the shock collar on David's neck was removed, and a pair of B-1s escorted him back to his village.
(B1)"Don't mess up again, 24601, you won't get a second chance."
(David)"Whatever..."
(B1)"What's with that guy?"
(Other B1)"He's a violent clone, you know how it is."
In the village, the other Humans tried their best to look happy around the Droids, while working harder than they were before they showed up.
(Human)"David! You're alive!"
(David)"Don't feel like it."
(Human)"What happened back there?!"
(David)"I don't wanna talk about it..."
(Human)"But you were gone for twenty years! Didn't som-"
(David)"I don't want to talk about it! Just be useful and tell me if Samantha is still here!"
(Human)"U-U-Uh, yeah, she's still here!"
(David)"Thank Alpha..."
After so many years, he still remembered the location of his mud hut. It was the very last one there large metal wall, sealing them all off from the rest of the planet. Inside, a woman with brown hair sat next to the window.
(David)"Samantha, I'm back."
She broke her gaze from the outside once that familiar voice, and was seconds away from tears.
(Samantha)"D-David...? David!"
She ran into his arms faster than he had ever ran in her life.
(Samantha)"David, I...I never thought I'd ever see you again!"
(David)"I know, I'm sorry I had to leave."
He couldn't help but notice that the room was missing someone.
(David)"Samantha, where's Thomas?"
(Samantha)"Well, while you were away...he stepped out of line."
(David)"What?"
(Samantha)"He tried to climb the wall, then two of those smaller robots caught him. He managed to get one of their guns, then...so many showed up, and they...they kept shooting him for three minutes."
(Samantha)"He's...he's dead. I tried to stop him nut he wouldn't listen!"
(David)"Listen, it's not your fault. We all want to be free, but those machines put there won't let us. But don't worry,we won't be trapped here for much longer."
(Samantha)"What do you mean?"
(David)"While I was in prison, I met a Human. From another tribe, his name was Boxer. Unlike the rest of us, he was able to escape. He can sneak into the citadel, and he's been gathering weapons and robot parts."
(David)"He's dug tunnels to every tribe on the planet, and he's going to dig one here tonight, under this house. When he does, I'll be able to access his hideout, along with a group of freedom fighters he recruited."
(Samantha)"So, you're going to leave again?"
(David)"I know it sounds like a useless idea. But he said he's got the perfect plan to liberated us, to liberate us all! Don't you want that?"
(Samantha)"...Yes, I do."
(David)"You just have to trust the power of Alpha, she has set this into motion, and will protect us."
(Samantha)"Ok, I trust you."
(Later that night)
At night, the Droids lower their security down to half a dozen B-1s marching around the wall. The earrings on the Human clones will automatically tell them to rest, but they do not know if they are. In David's hut, a hole appeared in the far left, big enough to crawl into. The two were waiting for this moment, it was time.
(Samantha)"Be careful dear, I can't lose you again."
(David)"I will, goodbye."
After a loving embrace, he went down the hole, where he saw a Human with some metal on his body.
(???)"Are you ready?"
(David)"Yes, let's go."
He followed the man, Boxer, through the tunnel.
(David)"So, how did you escape?"
(Boxer)"I was in the mines. I was doing such a good job, that they stopped watching me so much. During my shift, I accidentally mined a hole through the cave, out in the ocean. I took the chance and swam as far as I could until I found an island without Droid influence."
(David)"I didn't think a place like that existed."
(Boxer)"Neither did I, but anything is possible. So afterwards, I knew what I was appointed by Alpha to do. I used my knowledge and mining tools to sneak into the smaller outposts, and I managed to steal ration packs, weapons, and other devices. That's when I learned how to wipe out all the Droids in one swift stroke."
(David)"There is?"
(Boxer)"Yes. You know that huge tower near your village?"
(David)"The citadel?"
(Boxer)"Every Droid on this planet is controlled remotely by a satellite on the very top. If it was to be turned off, all the robots will deactivate. I wanted to do it myself, but the place is loaded with Security Droids."
(David)"So that's why you're requiting people."
(Boxer)"Exactly. Hold up, we're here."
He moved a metal plate aside, and crawled out into a cave lined with weapons and computers.
(Boxer)"David, say hello to the freedom fighters."
There were three other Humans in the room, all wearing large Droid parts as a form of armor. There were two other men, and one woman.
(Boxer)"The tall, dark skin man is Bruce, the strongest among us. The shorter one is his little brother, Terry, and the red haired woman is Rebecca."
(David)"Hello everyone, I assume that Boxer has intro-Hey!"
Terry suddenly held David by the ear, and with a small device, removed some type of computer chip from the back of his head.
(David)"What is that?!"
(Terry)"Micro chip, they'll try tracking you once they notice you've gone missing."
Without a second thought, he stomped on the chip, damaging it beyond repair.
(Boxer)"Now that we have enough people, time to go over the plan."
He turned on a nearby computer, displaying a large rectangular building, with a satellite tower on top.
(Boxer)"By tommorow morning when everyone is at the ration booth, we'll instigate a riot. In all the chaos, they'll send as many Droids as they can to contain the destruction, that's when we move. We'll sneak past the surprised guards, and break in through the ventilation system, which they surprisingly leave unguarded."
(Boxer)"After that, we'll find the security system. Once there, Terry will use his skills to hack in, and deactivate the automatic defensive turrets, allowing more Humans to join in the riot. We'll have to fight our way through the underground Droid Factory, that's where the elevator to the top floor is."
(Boxer)"If we can get passed that, with a few grenades, we can easily dispatch that Krios, and deactivate the satellite."
(David)"Hm, this all sounds a bit risky to me..."
(Bruce)"Risky or not, it'll all be worth it. I've spent half my life on this planet, and I intend on spending the rest as a free man. This goes down tomorrow, so what say you?"
(David)"I say...hand me a gun!"
