Backstory
Aurelius was born into the House of Ordell, a noble family hailing from the Westerlands, more specifically they used to be a branch of the ruling House, Lannister, but was given their own lands and name by the (then) King of The Rock as a noble House and vassal of House Lannister.
Aurelius was a rather curious child growing up, loving to hear stories of adventures, dragons and knights and generals. And as expected from nobility, especially as the Heir of a House, was given the best education money could buy, from mathematics, to history, religion and anything in between.
He grew up rather comfortably, but when he was 16, Aurelius requested to explore the world, to know it before he takes up the mantle of Lord, which was granted by his father, and as such, Aurelius went on to discover and explore Westeros, even sailing to Essos.
However, when he was 18, he got word that his father had passed away from illness, and as such, was forced to return home, and was named the new Lord of House Ordell.
Other
As mentioned, Aurelius have visited Essos, and as such, had learned to speak Valyrian, both the Highborn and Bastard dialect.
Do to his family's status and close relations to the Lannisters, Aurelius grew up meeting (and befriending) several of the members of House Lannister.
After the Greyjoy Rebellion, when Lannisport was burned and destroyed, Cadeyrn became the largest and wealthiest port city in the Westerlands.
Throughout the seasons, Aurelius continues to keep the traditional loyalty his family has had to House Lannister, even joining Tywin on the campaign against the Northern "rebels" lead by House Stark, during the early seasons.
But during the events of season 4, Aurelius is secretly preparing to break off and form his own faction/nation.
House Ordell History
The Ordells was branch (thus distant relatives) of the Lannister family, the rulers of the West. They came to surface about 500 years before Aegon and his sisters conquered Westeros and united it under one banner.
Karman Lannister, Lord of House Lannister, which was at the time, the royal family and Kings of the Westerlands. Had a bastard brother who he loved dearly, a man named Ordell Hill of The West, worked as the general of the Lannister armies, often at the front lines to repel any invaders and such, earning fame as one of the brightest military rulers and strategists of the time.
For his services and loyalty, Karman rewarded Ordell by making him a vassal of the Lannisters, given him his own lands, and allowed him to create his own House.
Ordell became known at The Founder after that among his family. And in honor of the first Lord of their House, they renamed it to House Ordell after he passed away, to honor and remember his achievements.
When Aegon arrived in Westeros and started to counqer the Six Kingdoms, the Lannisters and the Gardeners, the royal family of the Reach, joined forces to fight back the Targaryen invaders. The Lord of House Ordell of the time, a man by the name of Mathias Ordell, had urged Loren, the King of the Rock, to not in open combat, over the fact he was worried for the dragons. Loren of course didn't listen, as he and Gardener amassed a massive army, but it was futile as they were burned alive by dragon fire.
House Banner/Words

The Aftermath
After the Lannisters and the Reach bent the knee to the Targaryens, The Ordells had taken Aegon's interest do to their well known experience in combat and warfare, had requested them to join on the battlefield. After some argument, the Lannisters allowed House Ordell to join Targaryen in battle, where they showed themselves as a great instrument in taming the Riverlands, where they were truly recognized for their military might and cavalry.
Locations/Capital
The Ordells were given a decent amount of lands in the northern parts of the Westerlands, more specifically near the borders of the Riverlands and the sea, to continue their duty as the guardians of their homeland.
The home of their House is Sunset Stronghold, located in the northern parts of the Westerlands, a little east of the border into the Riverlands
The keep itself is located on a cliff overlooking the sea shore, as well as the town/city surrounding it, giving it the advantage of high ground and natural protections. The keep also has the lighthouse, helping guide ships to the shore during nights and storms.
The port city surrounding the keep, named Cadeyrn, is massive, and divided up into three different Districts, divided and protected by three distinctive, massive walls.
The city as mentioned, is a port city, as such has a large harbor and docking area for ships. The city also has a Sept, seeing as they are Southerners, the main faith is the Seven. As well as several markets, a Merchants district, and taverns, shops, etc.
The population of Cadeyrn is somewhere between 300,000-400,000.
Along with this, the Ordell's have several vassals and bannermen throughout their territory, who in turn owns and rules over different towns and villages, as well as two large forts along their eastern borders with the Riverlands, that acts as their first and primary defenses against eastern invaders.
House Ordell Military
House Ordell is a highly military oriented House, do too the fact they are tasked with protecting the northern borders of the Westerlands, they have a large army of 5000 infantry and 1300 cavalry, as well as a small fleet of 59 ships under the Ordell Banner. And while they are a smaller number, their cavalry is their strongest unit of soldiers, and every one of them are heavily disiplined and trained in the art of combat.
(As said, while that in of itself is a rather small number of soldiers, compared to some of the larger Houses, the soldiers of House Ordell are more rigorously trained and disciplined, plus if needed, they can hire mercenaries and summon vassals/bannermen to their aid)
Ordell Soldiers
However, when/if the Ordells breaks off and starts their own faction/nation, Aurelius starts to expand the Ordell military, taking in new recruits, reforming and organizing the military structure to make it more stable and suitable for open recruitment. As well as making it a proper economic job for those that join.
This new army becomes known as the "Purple Legion", and is separate military from the Ordell's personal soldiers.
