A small chat with you, friends
This is not a poem....
This is my experience I felt like sharing with you...
Hope you never mind, friends...
*********
Do you how it feels when a high voltage of nearly 110,000 Volts is just 15 feet above your head and it is bursting out like thunder and spilling fire on to the ground in all direction leaving you, in the middle of night.......
Do you know how it feels when for a few seconds there is fire around you flaming and gulping the dried grass and scrubs with the sounds of a bomb above you.....
Do you know how it feels when suddenly everything reach the climax and the power supply is cut off leaving darkness, stillness and no sound except the light and sound of the flames burning around you...
Do you know how it feels when you run here and there with a single person for your aid with fire extinguishers in your hand to put off the flames to save those costly equipments....
Do you know how it feels when you hurry up here and there, to assess the damage in the darkness and to plan the quickest means to restore back the power supply.......
Do you know how it feels arranging the workers, getting permissions, informing higher officials, bombarding subordinates to carry on the restoration works smoothly as well as quickly.....
Do you know how it feels when a big crowd gathers and start shouting at you and abusing you....
Do you know how it feels to go into the yard, the same place where everything occurred after finishing the repair works, alone without allowing your subordinates to accompany ( for their safety) to switch on the power supply....
Of course you have your safety gadgets, the helmet, gonglets and boots.....
But do you know how it feels when a flash of your daughter, husband, parents come to your mind just before switching..... yes you are well paid to do your duty... but is this worth it...
Do you know how it feels as you switch on, all equipments come to life with a boom spilling out sparks here and there and whirring sounds making the crowd speechless realising the risk factor.....
Do you know how it feels when you hurry swiftly here and there energising the equipments bringing back life to the various parts of the town one by one....
You may seem gallant or daring..... but do you know how it feels when you are shaken within....
Do you know how it feels to see the gathered crowd disperse thanking you with smiling faces......
Do you know how it feels when you see people sleeping peacefully in their air conditioned rooms, children watching television, patients safe in their ICU wards, workers in factories toiling for their living when they get the power supply....
Do you know how the satisfaction feels after finishing your duty efficiently...
Do you know how it feels that your work may not be acknowledged as that of a hero in a movie who acts with dummies... but this is what reality is...
Do you know how it feels when you are one among the thousands of unnoticed, unknown engineers who do their respective duties to make this world a comfortable place to live....
Yes.......
I am proud to be an Engineer.....
I may have taken this profession out of compulsion...
But, this is what I am and I am proud to be an Engineer...
I hope you know how it feels, friends..........
