Hello hello! Thanks for dropping in, again I didn't want to draw out the last chapter explaining why I chose  Longma to be Sea Gazer's form and talk about the compass + extra. So this space is dedicated to just that.

Let's begin!

Research?

I didn't want to stick with being a crane, I thought about it for a while but with how elusive Sea Gazer seemed to be and since he was a long past adeptus with no true description, aside from learning about him in a limited event (*sigh, I could also go on about how I feel about those) I was like: "Why not be one of the most mythical beasts on par with the Qilin?" if I could find one that is, and here we are.

So! From some extensive digging, Longma are described as a dragon-scaled pegasus. And were said to be, war horses with the ability to shift the weather and alter rivers. With this knowledge, I adapted Sea Gazer's personality and nature accordingly, with some added wisdom and a sprinkle of being a little eccentric too.

So Sea Gazer finding no threat in Jianyu is warranted, Sea Gazer has the means to well, dispose of the doll himself if he was going to be an issue. Jianyu's strength this early on could not rival nor compare to Sea Gazer's might. Sea Gazer purposely didn't dwell on his tactical prowess and well, Jian didn't ask and he didn't see the need to share.  Being relatively easygoing, fighting was the very last resort he'd take. But again he was no stranger to getting his... hooves dirty. Ha ha, ah... I'll see myself out 🙃

Why Sea Gazer?

I wanted Scaramouche or Jianyu in this AU to parallel that connection he had with Katsuragi, an important ancestor to Kazuha, that in itself is another can of worms, and you all aren't here for that so to condense what I am getting at. Katsuragi taught Scara a lot of what he knows in life and I really wanted to bring that to this story as well and show that type of bond developing and solidifying between Sea Gazer and Jianyu. So believe me, I'm hoping and praying you all were able to experience that genuine connection they have. Sea Gazer took it upon himself to be a teacher and mentor to Jianyu and wanted to include him into their way of life when he had no reason to. Jianyu was under Cloud Retainer's watch and had nothing to do with him but just watch a troubled child in their eyes. Yet Sea Gazer saw more than that and wanted to make sure Jianyu saw that too. So in a sense, Sea Gazer had become like a father/guardian figure in Jianyu's life and hopefully, even if just a little, had an influence on that harsh outlook of his.

His invention?

If many didn't know, it was said that Sea Gazer was in possession of the artifact and possibly the inventor of the fantastic compass. I wanted to nod to that a bit. For those who are curious about my direction with the compass, the details of the compass' original belonging gets a little muddied as I researched. I received two different versions that kinda converged. But how he came into possession of said item deviated. So in this AU I decided to follow down the route Sea Gazer was always in possession of this machinery and had created it. The website was telling me he either always had it or in the same vein he got it from someone and then gave it to someone else. For my mental health, he created it. 😵‍💫

What does he look like physically?

If you know the adepti; rarely do they ever appear old, so rest assured he is not. I gave Sea Gazer a vague physical description on purpose because he is a memory of Jianyu's we are exploring aside from the eyes and nature. His eyes were the most memorable feature because they are without pupils and have a pearl-like and gold iridescent glimmer. No, he is not blind, he just has no pupils which is a carried-over and distinctive trait of his divine beast. His nature, surprisingly gentle and empathetic towards him when no one else aside from Cloud Retainer has been that understanding or at least tried to be.

Ah... if I ever get around to it, I'd sketch out exactly how he looks to me but I wanted Sea Gazer to be however you all would like to imagine him. This image above pictures how I imagine his true form to be, just add some feathered wings and smaller to no antlers. Coloration can be adjusted.
