68. Home calls!

Olivia

"Olivia, please take a seat first," Amelia held me by the shoulder and tried to make me sit. I had given birth barely up to five hours, but the tension inside me showed no signs of calming down. Not when I knew my grandma was battling for her life in the ICU.

"I don't know, Amelia. I'm scared. What if something happens to her? I can't..." I choked on my words. Sarah joined in, and both of them placed comforting hands on my shoulder.

I had been pacing around the hallway of the ICU, waiting for the doctor to show up while I left Logan and Jamie in the room where I had been admitted with the baby.

"You shouldn't stress yourself; you're not strong. She'll be fine. The doctors are skilled, and the operation will be a success," Sarah reassured. I took a sharp breath and nodded my head, not because of anything but to ease their worry.

Thirty minutes turned into an hour before the doctor finally emerged. I rose to my feet and rushed towards him. "Doctor, how is my grandma? Is she okay?" My heart hammered in my chest as I bombarded him with questions.

"Mrs. Elizabeth is safe and sound."

"Does that mean the surgery was a success?" Amelia asked.

"Yes."

I released a sigh of relief, holding onto Amelia's wrist tightly. "Can I see her?"

"I suggest you allow her to rest. The nurses will move her back to her room. Excuse me."

"See, I told you. Now, let's go back inside. We'll check up on her later." My eyes glanced at the closed door before I allowed Amelia and Sarah to lead me to the room.

"You guys should not bother calming her down. She's still going to worry," Logan remarked the moment we stepped inside the room. I didn't miss the glare that Amelia shot at him. I had yet to make amends with him.

"Why wouldn't she be worried? Let her be," Amelia shot back.

"Don't mind him. I will deal with him later. Let all the stress subside," I muttered. They helped me to the bed.

"You heard what the doctor said, that she shouldn't stress herself, yet she ran out of the room without thinking about her condition. Even when I told her the surgery would be a success," Logan continued to express his frustration.

"And so? Is she your grandma or mine?"

"Olivia!" Sarah exclaimed, but I didn't back down.

"Do you expect me to sit and watch her die? Could you bear it if your mother was battling for her life, your only family?" I didn't know what had come over me, but suddenly I was hyperventilating.

Something flickered in Logan's eyes. "I see what this is about. No problem then. Do what you like." With that, he passed the baby to Amelia and walked out of the room. Realization hit me; maybe I had gone a bit overboard.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. "Why do you have to talk to him that way, Olivia? He's only worried," Jamie said, taking the seat Logan had vacated.

"Do I care!" I hissed out, folding my arms across my chest.

"Of course. He seems angry as he walked out. I don't know why I feel like sometimes you're being too hard on him. You know how sensitive talking about his mother is. Remember, he left his work to come stay with you here. You don't even know the effort he put into making sure your grandma gets the transplant done. And now you're saying you don't care. Sometimes, the little things we think won't hurt our partners are what hurts them the most."

If I say Amelia's words didn't touch me, I would be lying. I knew I had gone overboard. I shouldn't have attacked him that way. I got off the bed and slipped on my shoes. "Where are you going?" Sarah asked.

"I can't let him stay angry with me." That's what I said without looking back as I walked out of the room.

I inhaled and exhaled deeply as I caught sight of him seated on the other side of the room. I approached him, my heart filled with regret for my actions. I took the empty seat next to him and placed a hand on his lap. "I'm sorry," I began.

"For what? Did you do anything?" He replied, not meeting my gaze. I knew when he didn't want to show his emotions.

"Look at me," I urged. His gaze was still casted down.

"Please, Logan. I can't bear it when you give me the cold shoulder," I pleaded, pushing my lips forward while I shook his legs.

I heard him let out a sigh. "Why would I even stay angry with you? I can't even if I want to. Seeing you sad is as painful as touching a part of my body. I know you had a lot going on, which is why you reacted that way." I knew he hated to see me in tears, but at that moment, I couldn't stop myself.

"See what I'm talking about. Now you're crying. I hate to see these tears in your eyes. Come here." He pulled me to his embrace. The familiar scent of his body engulfed me. I breath out a sigh of relief. This was what I needed. To have him wrap me around his warm embrace. To feel his hand roam around my back and tell me everything will be okay. And that was exactly what he did.

"I love you too much to allow any strand of your hair to get hurt. So don't think I left the room because I was angry. It was because I don't want to make you sad."

I break free from the hug. "You don't have to hold yourself back. If I did something wrong, feel free to scold me. I'm a human being. We make mistake."

"But-" I shut him up by placing my index fingers on his lips.

"I know you promised grandma that you will make me happy but at times I might give you a headache."

Logan squinted his eyes at me. "Are you admitting that you're a troublemaker?" He asked his tone deemed visible of tease.

My eyes darted left to right. "Well not all the time. If I'm a troublemaker, you're a naughty man too." I remarked.

Logan chuckled in return taking a hold of my hand. "Thank you for giving me such priceless gift. I was over the moon when I held our baby in my arms. By the way, we haven't thought of a name for him."

"What do you think of Tristan?"

My brows creased. "Tristan? Is that the first name that came to your mind?"

"Yes. I thought of it yesterday. If it's a boy, I want to name him Tristan and if we had a girl, we will name her Annabelle. You don't like the name Tristan?" At some point, I felt guilty for not discussing it with him first.

Logan wrapped his arms over my body and planted a kiss on my forehead. "I'm okay with any name you come up with. As far as the name doesn't signify anything trouble."

I pulled away again and threw him a glare. "What do you mean? Tristan will not be a troublemaker."

"Only if we don't pamper him too much. Because I'm going to do that. He's my little prince."

"I don't want us to pamper him too much. I will discipline him."

"Don't even try it. From now on, he's my one and only." I was quick in jolting away at his words.

"What about me? Are you shifting your love from me to Tristan?" I pouted folding my arms across my chest.

"Why not? He's the only baby we've got. So he's my one and only."

"Then we should make another."

Logan raised his brows in amusement. "I see. Who was the one hauling insult at me for putting the baby inside her. Now you want another baby. Let's get back home first, we'd definitely make another. I want more of Tristan." He said resting his forehead on mine. We gaze into each other's eyes.

"I love you." He whispered sending a familiar warmth down my heart. This is the man I fell in love with. The man I didn't expect destiny to bring to me. I had thought breaking up with Alex is the end of my love life. I didn't know the end of it was the beginning of a new journey in my life. It brought Logan into my life.

"I love you too, daddy Tristan."

"Say that again."

"Daddy Tristan." I repeated and giggled when Logan leaned and planted a kiss on my lips.

The clearing of voice interrupted our little moment. "If you guys are done with kissing each other's face, Grandma is awake." Jamie's voice cut through.

Logan hands held my tightly as we stood in front of Grandma's room. Jamie was holding Tristan while Sarah and Amelia were by the side. "Take a deep breath." Logan hushed to my ears. I did as he said before my shaky hands pushed the door.

Logan knew I can break down in tears. He circled his arms around my body and we stepped in. Grandma was in a seating position. As soon as she saw me, her eyes shifted down. "Come here." She said. Her voice was low but I was able to hear it.

Logan released his hold from around my body and I slowly trekked towards the bed and got into her embrace. "I'm fine now." She mumbled rubbing her palms on my back.

"And congratulations. I'm seeing the little baby." She said. We break free from the hug. I wiped off the tears that had threatened their way out. Jamie passed the baby to her.

"He's so cute. He has your father's eyes."

"How did you notice? For a one day old baby?" I asked.

"Come here Logan." She said instead ditching my question. Logan pushed forward grabbing the stool and sat down.

"Congratulations to both of you. I wish you two a happy married life. May you stay happy always." That has to be one of the best support I had gotten from her.

"Thank you Grandma. Hope you are not feeling any pain anywhere?" Logan asked.

"Apart from my lower belly. I'm all good. I can even start working at the restaurant."

I squeezed my face at her reply. "You won't leave this hospital until the doctor confirmed everything is all good."

"Olivia is right, Ma'am. You should get completely better before leaving the hospital," Sarah chimed in.

"And who..." Grandma trailed off as she assessed Sarah and Amelia.

I sat up. "Meet Sarah and Amelia. They came all the way from the city to be with me. They're Logan's brothers' wives."

"Wow. Thank you, Sarah and Amelia, for showing your support towards my granddaughter. I can finally be at peace now, knowing she's in good hands."

"Don't mention it, Ma'am. We're all family. Get well soon."

"You guys shouldn't worry about me. It's time you return back home. I can manage here."

"We will leave only when you've healed completely," Logan chirped in.

"No. I won't allow that. You've been here for how many days now. I want you to go back home and be with your family. It's an order. By the way, what did you name the little boy?"

"Tristan," I announced. Even the rest didn't know the name we had decided.

"Tristan is it. I love the name. Bless you, Tristan," Grandma said, kissing Tristan's forehead.

"So where are we heading now?" Amelia asked as we made our way out of the hospital. Logan had left to book our flight back to New York. Grandma had insisted that we fly back home today. Although I had wanted us to stay for a day or two, she was adamant. We had no choice but to comply.

"Where do you guys want to go? I have a place in mind." Excitement bubbled inside me at the thought of the particular place.

"Shoot!" Sarah exclaimed.

"Do you guys remember the restaurant I told you about that has the best noodles? Jamie can testify."

"Don't tell me we're going to waste more time without stopping there." Sarah raised an eyebrow.

"Trust me, we won't. Let's head there." I led the way, and they followed.

The restaurant owner was happy to see I had brought customers to her restaurant. Because Sarah and Amelia ate more than I did. It was as if I had lost my appetite. They kept praising the woman for having magic hands. I waited until she was out of sight before I attacked them.

"You guys should not forget my husband got an award for his cooking skills." I threw a playful glare at the three of them.

"No one is saying Logan doesn't know how to cook. But-" Sarah started, only for me to cut her off.

"No buts. I'm jealous seeing you praising someone other than my husband." I pouted.

"Wow. Amelia, did you hear her? If only we weren't married, it would've pained us. Jamie, I hope you're not taking her words to heart." Sarah turned to Jamie, who shrugged in return.

"It's nothing I'm not used to. She told me not to get married, that I will suffer for it."

"I said that? When?" I don't remember telling Jamie not to get married. She must be exaggerating the situation.

"Maybe you were out of your mind at that time," Jamie teased.

"I'm sure I was. Because I can't remember what happened or how I ended up in the labor room."

"It's a normal thing. It happens," Amelia chimed in. I had even forgotten she's a doctor.

"By the way, you guys didn't give me the details of how the Costa Rica trip ended for you?" I asked, recalling how Logan and I had left Costa Rica without enjoying it to the end.

I didn't miss the smiles that appeared on Sarah and Amelia's faces. "Don't worry. Let's get back home first. We will give you all the details. And show you the things we bought."

"Damn! You guys went shopping without me!"

"Well... We didn't buy anything big. Just a few things."

"You did. I don't trust you. Going shopping with you ladies is as good as spending all the money. I'm sure Scott and Bernard will get a dent on their credit card."

The three burst out with laughter. "You're funny, really. I pray Tristan won't be a troublemaker like you."

"I want him to be, but I don't want him to be a naughty boy like his father," I replied, then my phone buzzed with a message from Logan, informing me that everything was all set for our journey back home.

I turned the phone screen to face them. "Ladies, home calls!" I cheered. Now that we were preparing to leave, excitement bubbled up inside me. I couldn't wait to get back home, where the heart resides.
