44. Burning hearts
Logan
"So you're telling me that Olivia informed your family that you two are married?" Brian asked as he poured himself a glass of drink.
"I don't think what I said was too cryptic." I replied. I had just briefed him about everything, from how they found out about the pregnancy to Olivia's revelation at the dinner. "Wow. All of this happened and I wasn't aware. Am I really your friend, Logan?" Brian feigned hurt, leaning back on the couch with a pout. That reminded me of how the dinner ended last night.
I expected my family members to react strongly to Olivia's revelation, but all they did was remain silent. Except for Liam, who congratulated her. That kind of annoyed me because he was trying to be overly friendly with her. And Olivia made it worse by not paying attention to me again throughout the dinner. She didn't even cast a glance at me. And when I confronted her, she brushed it off, saying it was nothing. Liam was just trying to establish a bond with her. I'm not naive; I understand Liam's motives.
"I have no time for that," I answered, this time pouring myself a drink to distract myself from the matter. "Liam."
"Liam? What did he do?"
"I don't like the way he's behaving around Olivia. He was acting all buddy-buddy with her last night," I said with a hint of frustration.
What I didn't expect from Brian was his laughter. He always does that whenever I'm talking about something serious. I shot him a glare. "Stop it. I'm being serious here."
"Okay, okay, I'm calm now. But why does it bother you? He knows Olivia is your wife. I'm sure he won't try to flirt with her."
"Flirt?" I found myself repeating. Was he really flirting with her? The way he was smiling at her, though. "He better not."
"He can if he wants to."
"What? I don't understand you. Are we talking about me or about Liam?"
"Of course we're talking about you. Olivia is yours, and you have nothing to worry about." Maybe Brian was right. I shouldn't worry. After all, Olivia is my wife. We know where we stand. But then, why do I still feel uneasy?
Brian sensed my mood and continued. "Seriously, Logan, you shouldn't let all these things bother you."
"I know. But Olivia is tempting me. That woman—" I stopped to take a sharp breath. "She's making me think about her in every possible way. My brain doesn't function properly without her." Brian's lips curved up as he stared at me.
"You're finally admitting you have feelings for her? Last time I recalled, you declined that."
"That was because I wasn't sure about my feelings."
"Now you're sure. And the fact that your brother is acting friendly towards her is making you feel uneasy, and maybe a bit jealous."
"Yes, I am jealous. I don't want her with anyone. Not Liam or any other guy," I admitted. I don't think there's a need for me to pretend about how I feel about Olivia, especially to Brian. "I love her."
"Did you tell her?" I shot him a questioning look. "Do I have to tell her? Actions speak louder than words."
Brian leaned forward, intertwining his fingers together, taking a deep breath. "That's why you need someone like me in your life, to guide you on things like this. How would she know you love her if you don't speak it into words? You can't expect her to know by kissing her, hugging her, or doing things that make her happy. You need to be open about your feelings."
The way he was explaining, you'd think he's a love doctor. The same man who has been single throughout his bachelor's life. "Oh, is that so?" I said, contemplating his words. Do I have to confess to her?
"Why are you acting like someone who has never dated before?"
"Have I?"
"Of course. With Tiffany."
"Tiffany's case is different. I wasn't serious. Olivia is different. You can't compare her to Tiffany. You know what, let's drop the topic. It's already time to close up for work." Thank God I've finished up all the work. I told Abigail to clear my schedule for the whole week. I want to take a full week's rest. My poor brain needs a break from all the office work.
Your focus should be on Olivia. My inner mind reminded. Right. Olivia.
Brian and I left the office together. "Do you have plans for this weekend?" he asked as we made our way out of the building's entrance.
"Yes. I'm accompanying Olivia to the hospital for her checkup. Why?" Brian stopped walking, making me look at him.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm surprised at how much you've changed. Love is sweet indeed." I didn't answer him, knowing it will only lead us into fighting. Brian will forever be a funny person.
"Olivia is sweet," I finally answered as I unlocked my car. "See you, buddy." With that, I stepped into my car, leaving a mouth-agape Brian standing.
I decided to call Olivia on the phone, we haven't really interacted much today. She left for her clinic early, as usual, and didn't reply to the text I had sent her. I placed the phone on speaker mode while I drove away. "Hey," her voice came through.
"Hey?" I repeated. "Is that what you're supposed to say to someone you haven't seen all day? Your husband, for that matter. Did you even miss me?" I declared openly.
Her next answer made a smile form on my lips. "Just say you missed me. Sorry, I've been busy today. I had quite a lot of clients. But I'm getting off now."
"Wait... You're still at the clinic?" I asked. Maybe I could stop by and pick her up.
"Not really. I have closed. I'm on my way to Jamie's house. I want to help her with something. I know what you're thinking about. Just go home, take a shower, eat, rest, and wait for me."
Her last line literally made my heart skip a beat. Damn, Olivia. I spared the mobile phone a glance as if she could see me through the phone. "What plans do you have for me?" I asked.
"That is for you to find out. If you dare fall asleep, I will kill you."
I chuckled in return. "I dare not. When my wife is planning something for me. Take care of yourself and don't stay late," I said, my laughter dying down.
"I will. Bye." And the line went dead silent.
"This woman will be the death of me," I muttered before stepping on the accelerator and speeding up.
I had been pacing around my room for the past ten minutes, waiting to hear a knock at my door. I had showered and even taken a short nap, but there's no sign of Olivia. She had sent me a text twenty minutes ago that she was on her way, but she's yet to show up. The curiosity was killing me. What could she be planning that she told me to wait for her?
I reached for my phone, which was lying flat on the bed, and attempted to call her when a knock sounded on my door. I could swear my heart did a flip. "Logan, be yourself," I assured myself, taking in and out a sharp breath before casually walking towards the door.
"I'm here," Olivia exclaimed, opening her arms wide. My eyes were fixated on her. For the life of me, I didn't know how to react. A different woman was standing in front of me. My eyes trailed from her face, down to her body. The dress she wore was hugging her in all the perfect places. It was the first time I had seen her full physique. Even with her visible baby bump, she was glowing. I didn't miss noticing that.
"You're looking... breathtaking," I muffled, barely recognizing my own voice. My insides were thumping abnormally. The smile she gave me in return made it even worse. At that moment, I knew I was whipped by her love. I knew this woman would be the death of me, not with the growing desire inside me.
Olivia stepped inside the room, and I gulped down my saliva. "You should know I'm not going to allow you to leave this room tonight," I said, closing the door behind me.
"And why is that?" she asked, her brows curving up in a confused manner.
My eyes raked her body once again. "Not when you're wearing this tempting dress."
"Well..." she trailed off, throwing her bag on my bed and walked over to me. "I wasn't planning on leaving in the first place. Remember, I told you to wait for me," she said, a hint of amusement in her tone.
She wouldn't expect what was about to come.
"Is that so?" I asked, snaking my arms around her waist. My body instantly reacted to the warmth of her body. "What do you have for me, then?" I asked.
She wrapped her arms around my neck, trailing her fingers down my chest, and began unbuttoning my shirt. "Are you trying to get yourself in trouble? If you unbutton the last button, don't blame me for what I'll do," I warned. Only if she knew how much I was holding myself back, not to pin her to my bed and make love to her. To trail kisses all over her body. To feel myself inside her. She doesn't know how much that had affected my brain the moment she told me to wait for her. The only thought roaming in my head was dirty thoughts.
Olivia went ahead and reached for the last button before she stared straight into my eyes. I don't know if what I saw in her eyes mirrored my own desires, but all I could see was the same intensity I was feeling. "Damn!" I exclaimed, crashing my lips onto hers. Olivia responded with the same speed. I bit her bottom lip, seeking access.
She moaned into the kiss and then pulled away, resting her forehead against mine. We stared at each other as we breathed deeply. The look in her eyes was one of pure desire. She licked her lips.
"I want you, Logan. So badly." she whispered. And that ignited the beast inside me.
"Fuck it! I want you more." I lifted her in my arms, and her legs instinctively went around my waist. I took her mouth and walked us to my bed.
We were in the same room. In the same bed. Yet, it was as if we were making love for the first time. Okay, we were totally out of it the first time, so it shouldn't be counted. Olivia and I were lost in our own world.
My hands roamed all over her body. Olivia had the most amazing skin. It was soft and smooth. It was like touching silk. And her scent was driving me insane. I had the biggest hard-on, but I needed her to feel every bit of pleasure first. My hands caressed her back. They roamed from her shoulders to her spine to her ass, and finally rested on her hips. I pushed her down onto her back, careful not to hurt her baby bump, and moved on top of her. Her chest was heaving, and her face was flushed.
Her eyes were half-lidded, and her lips were parted as she breathed. Her hair was fanned out, and she had a glow all over her face. She looked like a goddess. I kissed her deeply, slowly moving my tongue into her mouth. Our tongues met and fought for dominance. But I let her win, and she moaned as she deepened the kiss. She tasted of the wine we had at dinner last night, and I couldn't get enough.
I pulled away from her lips and trailed kisses on her jaw, down her neck. "I don't think we should go any further." I hushed out. As much as I so badly wanted to feel her inside me, I knew we had to be careful. Not with the baby growing inside her. I didn't want her to have any complications due to my own desires.
"Shut up and kiss me." she jerked me forward by the collar and connected our lips together. Who was I to deny her? I kissed her passionately. We were lost in our own world again.
