"Sometimes, unplanned things make the best memories"

"Ammi, why is-" I called out to my ammi as I entered the house and the first thing I noticed was a girl, on the floor, flat on her face! She can't be my sister as we have only boys here with Ammi, so the question is, Who is this clumsy girl?
"Who are you?" I asked her.
She looked up, her green eyes shining devilishly.
"Oh salaam" she said getting up.
"Was salaam and who are you?" I asked her getting straight to the point.
It was almost 10pm and she was in my effing house for Allah's sake!
"Who are you?"I asked again
"Ahh Ha-' she said but my ammi cut her off.
"Kaif, meet Hasti" she said, enthusiastically.
'Ammi who is this?" I asked, turning to my mother.
She gave me a small smile.
"Kaif, this is Hasti, niece of Maya aunty" she replied and I wrecked my brain to think who this aunty was.
Oh right. Mom's friend who lived I forgot where.
"Oh.. and what is she kindly doing in my house?" I questioned, glancing over to the girl standing by the staircase.
"Kaif, calm down and be nice! She will be living with us here. For a few weeks" Ammi scolded/ told me while the devil in question grinned from her position.
I sighed before nodding my head in surrender. I was too tired to talk or argue anyway.
I'll deal with it tomorrow.
After the night salutations to my mother, I retired to my room.
We lived in Woodside park, London and this place was pretty much home. I loved it here and since the tragedy of my father, ammi and I along with my little brother Zakaryah have been living here.
I sighed as I set on my bed, taking off my tie and coat.
Abba.... No Kaif you will not let him come between your dreams and ammi!
Yuo that's it.
I went to my closet and took out my clothes to shower and have rest.
After shower and a fresh set of clothes, I set by the open window of my room overlooking the green backyard of my home. It's a friday night and the air's cold. Perks of having christmas near, I guess.
After a while, I decided to Tahajjud before retiring to bed.
I guess life is uninteresting nowadays.
✳️
The next morning was more of a hassle. Usually on weekends I work from home or take ammi and Zaki out.
"Salaam ammi, Zaki" I said as I set down beside my brother at the breakfast table.
I looked around and realized the clumsy girl was not around. Huh, must've gone home.
I took my plate of pancakes and cut the piece taking it to my mouth.
"AARHHHH!" screamed a female voice so loud that even the pancake form my fork fell. Spoke too soon.
I tilted my head towards the origin of the sound and sure enough, she set there with a smug look on her face, glaring at the floor. As if it was the floors fault that she fell.
"Stupid Floor!" She said, hitting it.
"What the-?" I said, raising an eyebrow as my brother howled in laughter while my mother ran to aid the girl.
Zakaryah was my little bother, 18 year old childish human with a dry sense of humour.
"Bhai I think she is disastrous!" whispered Zaki from beside me and I chuckled in return. True that brother.
"Zaki being rude is bad" I whispered back and he stuck out his tongue at me.
Finally Ammi Joined the table with her trailing behind.
"As salaam alaikum" she said, almost shyly.
I muttered my reply before continuing to eat my breakfast.
"So, you are Kaif?" She asked, after a while. A while of complete and utter peaceful silence.
I raised an eyebrow yet again.
She actually had the audacity to shrug and continue speaking as of my cold shoulder was nonexistent.
"I heard alot about you, Kaif is this, Kaif is that and what not!" she exaggerated with her hands going around in gestures. So much that I was afraid she might stab one of us with the fork in her hands.
What was wrong with this girl?!
"Excuse me?" I said, incredulously.
"Oh excused!" she replied happily munching away her food.
I placed my fork down and studied her.
She had a fair complexion, thin eyebrows and devilish green eyes. Her smile was pre- idiotic and her cheeks had dimples. She had on her hijab that was blue and wore long sleeved sweater on top.
"Stop staring its rude!" she said, smirking up at me.
I was taken back. What?
"I was not staring, I was observing." I stated through gritted teeth.
Ammi smiled and Zaki chuckled but immediately covered it up with a cough when I gave him a glare.
Hasti put her fork down and folded her arms on the table. She looked at me and sighed
"Why are you so grumpy? You could beat Grumpy the Dwarf!" she told me in an innocent, childlike voice.
I gave her a puzzled look. Grumpy? Me? And who the hell was Grumpy the Dwarf?!
"Okay Okay I now its winter and people get cold and angry in this season but- masi" she said, shifting her gaze from me to my mother.
"Does he always change with the seasons?" she questioned, her voice laced with mockery.
"Not really Hasti ji, just sometimes" Zaki answered her. I narrowed my eyes at my brother. Wait till I get my hands on you brother. Just wait.
Hasti laughed and I growled at her.
Goodness, why do I have a feeling I just invited trouble in my peaceful life?
✳️
After breakfast, I thought of having a nice cup of hot chocolate and doing my work in the study.
"Masi, I am going out!" screamed Hasti as the front door closed.
Then my study door opened and in came the Royal Idiot, namely Hasti.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her without looking up from my work.
"Seriously? Back to the grumpy mode? What's with you?!" she questioned.
I sighed and looked up to her.
"Oh sorry, did not realize I was talking to Her Royal Highness, the Queen of Idiots!" I said and she grinned at me. "So let me rephrase my sentence, What do I owe the pleasure of your presence here?" I asked her
"Oh you know- just that I do not know this place and...... Care to show me around?" she asked me and I rolled my eyes. That's why we have Google maps.
I shook my head and replied "Ask Zaki"
"He is busy!" she whined taking a seat infront of my desk.
"Ask Ammi" I replied, going back to work.
"She went out" came her reply as I saw a hand reach out to pick my stack of pen. The marvel own collection, might I add.
"Then wait for them and please do not play with that!" I said to her looking up from my work.
"No- just show me the way!!!" she whined and for good 5 minute she kept whining.
"FINE!" I said, giving up. This woman was incorrigible.
That stopped her form whining and she grinned.
"Get yor coat, we going to the mall" I said to her and she grinned, her eyes twinkling like a devil.
An hour later we were at the mall, she was laughing around her jokes and i was getting annoyed.
"Hasti can you stop laughing!?" I told her and she laughed even harder.
"No! I am hella hilarious!" she said, before laughing again at her own pun. I don't get any of it, just for the kind information.
I sighed as we walked to the food court.
"I want pizza!" she said as she set on one of the many chairs around here.
"Fine, but stay here." I told her before I walked to the counter to place our orders.
I can't believe I am with her at the mall! A girl I just met hours ago! And one who infuriates me. God.
"Yes Mr. shahaan!?" squealed the girl at the counter.
"Ah.. hi, can I get a large pizza with cheese and no pineapples, please" I ordered and she managed to write it down without dropping her book. Every time I come here and this girl serves me, she manages to drop her book, pen or anything to the ground. She would then search for it making me wait. It always happened.
"That would be 10 pounds sir!" She said as I handed her the money.
"That table ther-" I said turning around to look for Hasti.
But she wasn't there. Nor was any sign of her entire existence.
Am I hallucinating or is this really happening?
"Ah just a minute-" I said as I opened my phone and dialled Ammi's number
"Kaif?" she said
"Hasti is uh.... missing?" I made it sound like a question.
"WHAT?! What do you mean missing? And why'd you call me instead of looking for her? Kaif, You better look for her at any costs. I don't want to see even a scratch on her" I have never seen or heard my mother so angry before.
And I knew hell would break lose if I didn't find this Royal Idiot.
"Give me that" I said as I sighed and walked out of the food court to look for the missing human.
"Where is she?!" I muttered to myself, looking around. I have been in this floor for what seemed like ages but was merely minutes. I guess she went to the next floor. Problem was, which floor? It was a 13 story mall. Which floor?
I should have known she would do such things.
There was apparently only one thing I could do. And that was just pray.
Ya Allah just let her be safe or else my mother will beat the pulp out of me with her sandals, rolling pin and even those hose pipes around the house.
Yup, I am so dead.
