Chapter 36: A Missing Puzzle

Evelyn's POV

"Are you serious!" I gritted my teeth looking at that face.

"Who's that hottie..." Chrissy squealed next to me. And then he stood up with his hands-on hips pushing his suit jacket away which revealed his gun attached near the belt.
Chrissy next to me, gasped.

"Don't worry... he'll not hurt us." I whispered. I was sure. A day with him and I almost... already knew him. "What are you doing here Riccardo!?" I directed my question at him stepping inside the house.

"I've come here to get you. Why else do you think?" He sounded stern. Not ready to listen to anything I say. "Let's go." He gritted his teeth.

"Eve!" That was Nick's voice coming from behind, huffing. "Eve! Don't you understand! You've already been abducted; we haven't even had the time to-" he was ready to give me long lecture until he saw Riccardo behind me inside the house.

I turned around to see him looking behind me at Riccardo. Enough! "How did you both know where I was?" I turned my head from left to right looking at them both repeatedly. But I guess I still hadn't understood the seriousness of the situation until Nick pushed me out of the door and both of them pounced upon each other.

"NICK!!" I screamed trying to hold him back. "Nick! Stop." I pulled at his arm that forced Nick to endure a blow thrown at his face.

I quickly let go of his arm. Shit! I ran out to get someone to help me other than Chrissy.
"Mark! Mark!" I called standing near the door who was leaning on the car's deck, I shouted until he noticed. I ran back to hold them, but they only just kicked and punched each other. My living room was messy with their jacket thrown here and there and my vases thrown and furniture broken, all in a few minutes.

Mark came in holding a gun in his hand pointing at them but couldn't exactly point at them.

"Nick! Nick... Riccardo! Riccardo... Ric" I stopped myself before I'd get hurt. "Riccardo... I'll agree to come with you if you stop fighting." I shouted. But that did no good.

Both of them sent a glance at me, Riccardo smirked in response, and Nick... even more furious. My comment and his smirk only just irked him. But then I realised, that this fight was not over me. It was for something else. Mark gave me a stare, instructing me to stand in place and ran out determined. But I obviously didn't obey. I stood helpless, breathing heavily, only for a moment, because I quickly grabbed the gun Riccardo had near his waist.

"Both of you! Stop! Or I'm going to shoot." I said and stretched my arm pointing the gun at them to emphasise that I really would. There was no use, because that didn't affect them even a tiny bit. By now they had pushed my sofa, that had fallen backwards, and Nick had a gash on his head that was bleeding profusely. Riccardo had a bloody nose. But this couldn't continue, and I could definitely not lose a husband. Or a brother who I still hadn't gotten a chance to know.
"You both stop right now, or I shoot myself." There was moment of hesitance from but looking at me holding the gun to my head, they stopped.

"You wouldn't." Nick said gruffly.

"Try me." I replied and Riccardo let go of his collar. Nick knew me to an extent, but Riccardo didn't. I had the gun to my head, but I wouldn't harm my baby for these two idiots. But they didn't know that.

"Stop what you're doing... keep the gun aside! And stop interfering-"

"Don't order me around Nick!" I glared at him. "Now! Tell me how did you both know I'm here?!" I asked, only see them throwing glares at each other. "Howw...??" I emphasised and they finally acknowledged me by looking at me.

"Rand"

"Rand"

They both said at the same time.

"Rand...?" But that asshole said he'd keep my secret. Bloody bugger! "He told both of you!"

"So, you were the bastard he was talking to? To come get my Eve..." Nick looked like he was doing some calculations in his mind then rammed his head onto Riccardo's. The force had Riccardo back away a good distance.

"Nick! Oh god.... you were already bleeding and now this..." I ran to him but when Riccardo came forward, I held the gun against him. "Stop right there Riccardo!" By this time Mark was back with some other men following him. All holding guns and Chrissy looked almost ready to faint as she held on to the curtain at the far end of the room.

"Are they done?"

"I think so Mark.... I think we'll be fine. Could you please take Chrissy outside?" I asked pointing to her at the corner.

I waited until they left and signaled the other men who had come along, to leave as well. They didn't obviously but when Nick looked at them, they left with a nod. I kept an eye on them both as I moved to get a first aid kit that was right next to me in the table drawer.

Riccardo was standing far away, his aura stiff as he looked ready to fight. He eyed me and Nick, obviously disapproving my movements. I sat next to Nick who looked conflicted. I tried to dab the cotton on his head, but he held my hand. "I told you to stay out of this Katherine Evelyn Linard. You don't know anything that's happened." He hissed. Back to 'Katherine' again?

"I know... I know what you're trying to hide. He already told me. I'm his sister, aren't I? And you were trying to hide that from me all these days..."

"What!" He stood up.

Nicholas's POV

I looked back and forth between them. And from no angle did they look like siblings. No no... "I'm damn fvcking sure! He's trying to manipulate you, isn't he?" I glared at him.

But I looked back at Eve when she pulled at my hand. There was some kind of belief she had entrusted on this bastard. But my girl is so naive and innocent.

"You had Rand planted at our house, haven't you?" I asked Riccardo. He slowly nodded his head with his arms crossed across his chest.

"Rand?" Eve still looked confused. "Hmm.... he always seemed strange."

Evelyn's POV

"But.. but.. if you really wanted me to know that I'm your sister then you should've just come forward and told me... why set someone inside our house."

"Evelyn!"

"Wait Nick... let me talk." He turned around murmuring something to himself. Obviously cursing me as he ran his fingers through his hair.

It was when he pulled a gun from his leg. "Nick put it down! Nick." I ran to stand in between them. "Are you both crazy. Nick!" I slapped him on the cheek when he pushed me aside.
Shit! My eyes were wide while I covered my mouth with my hands. "Sorry." I said sheepishly. "Please." I looked at him sadly.

"This. Is not about you, Evelyn. So, stay out of it." His voice was too cautious. He was trying to warn me.

"Whatever it is, you can talk about it? I don't want my husband and brother hating and fighting with each other."

"He lied to you Eve! He's not your brother."

"I never!... I didn't lie about Evelyn. You are my sister." To me he looked sincere. Why can't Nick see that?

"No matter what! Eve is going nowhere with you. You either get out or I'll have to break the promise I gave to my sister." Isabella? What does she have to do with all this?

"You let me go with Eve or I'll have to break the promise I gave to my wife." Riccardo repeated.

"Who you killed." Nick said with gritted teeth. I thought Nick killed his wife.

"You killed my wife!"

"No, you killed my sister."

I was only standing on the sidelines listening to them both blame each other. Isabella is perfectly fine.

"Isabella is perfectly alright, isn't she? Nick?" I shook his shoulders.

"He's talking about... Niyah." Riccardo said. That 'name' was almost a whisper.

"Who's Niyah?" Why is that so much had been hidden from me.
"Isabella? Is that why you took her?" Is he talking about Isabella? But she's perfectly alright.

"No... it's Niyah. My sister." He swallowed. "Twin sister." He held my hand tightly for support. But it was too much for me to take in.

"I don't want understand. You had a twin... sister?" I took in long deep breaths. But nothing helped. I suddenly felt heavy like something was weighing down on my chest.

"Eve... Babe.... you want sit down?" He asked. Riccardo quickly pulled the sofa back to the right position as Nick pulled me to sit down on his lap.

Riccardo stood behind him. "Is she alright?" He asked. Nick looked at me asking me with his eyes. I nodded my head letting him know I'm perfectly fine.

"Yeah. I'm absolutely fine! Who's Niyah...? Isn't her name Isabella? Isn't that what your parents call her?" I asked. I was fine. There was only a moment where it was too much to take in so I had to have a few deep breaths.

"Eve... honey... that's not Isabella." he pulled me close and kissed my cheek. "We should go home." He smiled. Fake smiled.

"No!" Riccardo interrupted before he even stood up. "Uh... we'll go home-"

"Shut up! I'll decide where I should go. Now! Do you both plan on telling me today or next year. Who's Niyah?" I gritted my teeth.

"I told you Evelyn! She was my sister. I had to two sisters, Niyah and Phelicia." Now who's Phelicia!
"Me and Niyah were twins... my elder sister by two minutes." He smiled at the memory. "We did everything together. Everything! We... we were closer to each other. Phelicia was always left out. Well we did try to include her in our activities. But she was just too young. Seven years younger than us-"

"Who's Phelicia...?" I asked.

"Phelicia... Isabella Phelicia Perkins. My parents changed her name to Isabella... after Niyah's death. In her memory. For my parents... so that they could use someone to replace her." He sneered as he mentioned his parents. Is that why he hates them? "Well.... Phelicia vanished, and Isabella stayed." pursing his lips for a brief moment he continued. "Like I said, Niyah and I shared everything with each other. We did everything together. One day, she came and told me she had a boyfriend. No crush, no dating, nothing! She just outright comes and tells me she had a boyfriend. By the look in her eyes.... she was already in love. I knew something was wrong. I supported her, for her happiness."

"Didn't you ever question her? Who? How?" He shook his head as 'no' even before I complete my sentence.

"We... had some kind of trust in each other. She'd tell me something, I wouldn't stop her, I would only give my opinion to her. I remember telling her that I sense something really wrong. She didn't agree. But one fine day when I was roaming around with Alex... I found out that the guy she's in love with, is the enemy's son. That was when she asked me for a promise... that I should never be involved in any fight with him, I should never be the reason for his ill. I never interfered... all I know is she came home one day excited, telling me I'm soon to be an uncle. She was pregnant. She.... she left home to tell him.... all I know is that we found out she was dead... her neck was cut deeply... and a knife left behind. It was him." He finished staring ahead with a blank look.

Riccardo's eyes strangely turned wide. Was he lying? "Was it you?" I almost whispered. He shook his head, his eyes filled with pain.

"I found the knife he used to kill my sister.... a knife with his family symbol on it. And then they ran to Italy! Hiding from us." Nick said. He still didn't look back at Riccardo. Good thing! Cause I didn't want them fighting again.

Riccardo said, Nick killed his wife. Nick said, he killed his sister. Both of them are the same girl. He had a sister? Why wasn't I ever told about this? I remember I was eighteen when Nick's parents proposed arranged marriage. He was fresh out of university. He was only three and twenty. I'd guessed he thought himself young...

"When was this? Uh I mean-"

"That was ten years back. I was only eighteen then. Isabella was just a twelve-year-old kid. We changed ourselves in every way possible. Isabella even changed her name, and it stayed. Cause we wanted our mother back to health. But no matter what... nothing could replace her. Day by day, we lost our parents. I lost my sister. Another few years and I was sent to study away from home, away from Isabella. There I get to know, the person who I trusted after my sister was... was... gone. She had cheated on me."

Melanie... That was.... that felt completely lonely. A guy who had everything. Almost lost everything at the same time. It would've been so lonely for him. Trying to find peace and some loyal company.

"I remember I was twenty-three. I had just convinced Daniel to not marry that crazy lady. And then boom! Arranged marriage with you." He chuckled at the memory.

It wasn't just adding up. There was something missing in this story. A missing puzzle.
"But.... if you haven't killed your sister. And if he hasn't killed her too.. then who has? Who did it?" I questioned looking at both of them.

There was a moment of doubt in their eyes.

"He did it!"

"He did it!"

There it is! Both refused to look at each other.
"Stop behaving like immature kids! Think about it! Not for yourself, but for the one who you both truly loved. If there is a chance that you both haven't killed her then.... someone is taking advantage of the fact that you both are enemies and you'd never even converse with each other to know the truth." I explained. Riccardo came forward to sit on the other small chair, with a frown upon their faces, they looked at each other. I could see that they both agreed with what I had said.

"I remember a knife with a symbol of your family lying next to her." Nick gruffly said.

"I remember a knife coated with her blood, a symbol of your family... posted to me. And an address.... that only said, 'She's waiting.' I really thought you didn't want her to be with me and the news of her pregnancy upset you... that's why you killed her."

"And I thought you killed her after she told you she was having a baby."

There was pure horror written on all our faces. Because it was clear someone else was definitely taking advantage of the situation. And we like fools waited all this time.
