Chapter 3: A Mysterious Sighting

Noah and Doyle had made it to the beach. Doyle looked at his water proof watch. It was about 7 o'clock. There were usually not many people at the beach this early in the morning. That's another reason why they loved going so early at this time.

"Yah! Free reign of the beach!" shouted Noah running toward the water. He threw down his bag and surfboard a safe distance away from the water.

Noah ran down the beach to the water, sand kicking up through the air, with Doyle close behind. They reached the water and started jumping over the waves that kept splashing in. Doyle reached down and swished his hands through the water. A moment later he held up a huge light purple shell.

"Cool," he exclaimed and then threw it out into the ocean.

After a while playing in the ocean water, Noah went back up shore and claimed his surfboard and also brought over Doyle's stripped orange one. As he was jogging back to the water, he froze as he looked out to sea.

Doyle looked to Noah and yelled, "You okay?"

No answer at first and then Noah started walking towards the water again and said,

"Sorry... I thought I saw something in the water,"

"Like what?"

"I don't know never mind..."

"Are you sure?"

"Yah.... I don't want to go surfing anymore though,"

"No problem," Doyle said looking down at his watch, "Holy cow! I have a soccer tournament that starts in an hour! I have to go!"

"Okay, here's your board," Noah said handing him his surfboard.

They started walking up shore again. Doyle dried himself with his towel and then tied it around his waist. Then he grabbed his water bottle and waved to Noah.

Noah waved and then grabbed his bag and surfboard. He started trudging up a sand hill, but his stomach rumbled. He remember all he had eaten was an apple and a bagel. He grabbed a granola bar out of his bag and unwrapped it. Taking a bit, he sat down under a shaded Palm tree and about 12 seagulls crowded him.

Noah pulled out his half eaten sandwich that was now squished and looked gross, and pulled it into 5 small pieces and threw it across the sand. The seagulls went flying after it quickly. They were soon all fighting over the bread and making loud screaming sounds.

Noah finished his granola bar and grabbed one of his water bottles. He watched the birds attack the bread as he drank the cold water. He looked around the beach. Looking towards the ocean now and watched calmly the ocean waves that were still crashing on the shoreline. He smelt the fresh salty air and felt the warm air brush past his face.

After a while, he decided he would go home. He walked to the nearest trashcan and threw away his trash. Looking at the beach one last time he noticed the same thing that had freighted him earlier. He watched a hug fin pop out of the water and then in a blink of an eye, it was gone.

He knew what shark's looks like and how big the ones in Florida were. He had only seen one type of shark at this particular beach in his time. A Spinner shark. Every time he saw one, they were always spinning while jumping through the air. He had seen many of them.

The fin that he had just seen in the water was way bigger than any shark fin or dolphin or even a whales body. Noah took his eyes off the water and walked up the street and crossed it. He started walking toward the library.

-----

Noah walked into the library and went right over to his secret place. He knew the librarian really well and she let Noah have a very small room in the corner of the library all to himself. The librarian loved Noah since he was like six, and Noah always came back to this library. From when he was six to ten years he had joined reading clubs and story times. Now a days, he just read for fun in his secret room, at home, at school, or on the beach.

He opened the door to his small room and went inside. He looked around. It was like his own bedroom. Without a bed of course. It had two small windows with blue curtains, a trashcan, a clock, a small box that Noah had painted when he was seven that was filled to the brim with packages of gum, and a single blue and orange beanbag chair. There was also a bookshelf that contained all of Noah's favorite stories. Such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Narnia, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a couple of Zelda comics.

Noah set down his bag and surfboard in the room and grabbed a piece of gum and went out of the room chewing loudly. The librarian promised to always keep Noah supplied with as much gum as he wanted in promise that Noah would always come back to her library. It seemed like a good deal to Noah.

Noah walked quickly over to the "s" area in the kid section. He ran his fingers down the bindings of all the books. He saw Scorpions, snakes, skunks, squirrels, salamanders, spiders, sloths, sea turtle, sea slug, sheep, serval, sting ray, swan, and the finally he found shark books.

There were only 6 books left about sharks. There were usually a ton. Noah pulled all 6 out and saw what the covers were. One about Lemon sharks, one about Great Whites, one about Tiger sharks, one about Basking sharks, and the last two said "All Different Types of Sharks". Number 1 and number 2. Noah put back the first four he had looked at and took the last two books back to his secret room.

He opened the door and sat down in his beanbag chair. He was still chewing his gum as he opened the number one shark book. He flipped to the index page and read outload.

"Bahamas Sawshark, Basking Shark, Bideye Sixgill Shark, Blacktip Reef Shark, Blue Shark, Bluegray Shark, Bluntnose Sixgill Shark, Bull Shark, Broadnose Sevengill Shark, Bronze Whaler Shark, Burmese Bamboo Shark, Carribian Reef Shark, Copper Shark, Cookie Cutter Shark, Crested Bullhead Shark, and Frilled Shark,"

Then he read out load the number 2 shark book index.

"Galapagos Bullhead Shark, Goblin Shark, Grey Reef Shark, Great Hammerhead Shark, Great White Shark, Greenland Shark, Hammerhead Shark, Horn Shark, Japanese Sawshark, many other sharks, Tiger Shark, Whitetip Shark, Zebra Bullhead Shark, and Zebra Shark,"

When he was done reading that, he turned to the Goblin shark page. Noah gasped as he looked at the horrible sight of the Goblin Shark. It had a long nose and strange teeth everywhere. He hadn't found what he was looking for. He was looking for a big shark, like awesomely, but scary big, because that's the fin he had seen in the ocean this morning.

A/N: If you have any questions about sharks, please ask. I think they are cool and i know lots about them.
