Chapter 17: Solved Mystery 6-13-16
Noah woke up to Doyle and Robin staring down at him. Doyle to the right and Robin to the left. Robin gave an excited smile with her mouth wide open and Doyle gave a half smile like he was unsure of something.
Noah closed his eyes again for a moment. Noah could feel the softness of the gritty sand underneath him and knew he must be on the beach still. The waves also could be heard crashing down in the distance too. He wondered how long he had been out and what ever happened to the shark.
"Noah?" Doyle said quietly.
Noah opened his eyes again slowly and looked up at his friends again.
"What happened?" Noah asked sitting up a little. He leaned against his elbows. Doyle and Robin gave him his space as they backed up a little.
"He's up! You will never, ever in a hundred years guess what happened to you or the shark or what even happened!!!" Robin said excitedly tossing up her good arm and then having it land on Noah's shoulder.
"I will tell!" said Doyle with a bigger smile.
"Fine, you can tell half of it," responded Robin, "Only because you are his best friend," she said pointing at Doyle with her casted arm.
Noah looked up and saw that he was seated under a palm tree; a very tall one with cocoanuts hanging down from the braches. It reminded him of how hungry he was as his stomach growled. He sat up completely and leaned against the tree taking a deep breath.
"Okay so here's what happened," Doyle started, "Wait, before I start... what was the last thing you do remember?"
Noah was quiet for a moment and tried to remember. Suddenly he did. He remembered falling off that tall boulder after being hit by the monster wave, the shark dragging him to the island using the rope that had been tied to himself, and then the shark jumped into the air with Noah on its back! Noah looked down to his waist and the rope was gone. Doyle or Robin must have untied it off of him. Noah explained this all to Doyle.
Doyle nodded and continued,
"So we saw the shark jump out of the water and over those tall boulders. We saw a tiny dot on its back and Robin said it had to be you. I didn't believe her at the time, but now I see it actually was you. Then once the shark landed, there was an enormous, enormous splash! The water reached all the way over to us!" Doyle stopped to catch his breath. He sounded excited and very happy to see Noah. Then continued,
"After maybe about 5 minutes of waiting patiently, I couldn't take it anymore. I thought you were gone and you had either drown or the shark ate you. I started walking away until Robin pulled me back by my sleeve. She pointed to something in the wavy water. It was the fin of the shark. The last thing I wanted to see since I thought the shark had eaten you. I started walking away again until Robin pulled me back again for a second time,"
"I will tell the rest!" Robin interrupted. Doyle nodded with a smile. He had been too excited to even speak properly anyway. Robin finished off the story,
"I had pulled Doyle back because I saw that the shark had raised his giant head out of the water and was looking straight at Doyle and I. I looked at the shark closer. There was rope in his mouth!" Robin said almost shouting, "Then the shark did something I have only seen sharks do with prey. He pulled his head to the side and flung something in the air. There was something flying through the air now. We didn't know what it was. An unlucky fish maybe? Then Doyle screamed-"
"I don't scream! It was more of a... um... shout," interrupted Doyle crossing his arms over his chest.
"Sure, a shout. And shouted your name! It was then that I realized it was you. Doyle held out his arms and caught you. Well he didn't really catch you because you both fell down, but at least he attempted to. I instantly got upset because I through the shark was showing off that he had killed you, but I was wrong. Way wrong! Doyle said he found a heartbeat in you and that you were going to be fine, hopefully! We looked back to the shark and he had swam away and splashed us once more with a slap of his tail on the tops of the water," Robin finished with an even bigger smile on her face than before.
Noah couldn't think of what to say or do, but he did have one question,
"So... the shark saved me?" he asked with a confused look.
Robin nodded and said, "Looks like he did... Man! I always knew I loved sharks!"
They all shared a laugh and didn't have any words for what had just happened. There mystery had come to an end and they had all solved it together. Doyle and Robin gave turns hugging Noah and eventually they all stood up. It was 6' o clock and Noah had to get home before his parents wondered where he was.
"Oh! here is your bag!" said Robin handing over Noah's bag he had given to her before his brave effort to save the shark.
"Thanks Robin," Noah said.
"This is horrible and I don't know how to say this... but I have to go home now," Noah said quietly.
Doyle put his arm around Noah and said,
"We understand completely. Go home and get some rest. We can meet up tomorrow and talk more. I'm just glad you are okay and came back to us safely. You are always full of surprises my friend... my best friend,"
"Thank you guys. Doyle. Robin," Noah said.
"I don't know what I could do without you, you know," Doyle said. They gave each other one more hug and they walked in different directions. Noah smiled to himself and walked silently through the rain back to his own house. He had a strange feeling in his body about what had just happened and all the work him and his friends went through to help that amazing creature in need. Something he would never ever forget. Ever...
