Lucky Man (RichardHigley) (5)
He has to know how deep the pool
Of luck in which he swims,
Because her heart is his alone,
And has been from the start.
Though not her first, he's now her best,
Her shelter from all storms.
He thinks in not a sacrifice
To fill her every need.
No longer fresh sprung from the egg,
She's grown a brood herself.
From other lives before they met,
Came scars and weeping wounds.
She vowed last time would be the last
She'd trust in any man.
Still and yet, she felt the melt,
In sunlight of his truth.
He too, had suffered slings of old
That marked his very soul,
But never lost that spark of hope
He's half a whole again.
His need is not himself complete.
For that event to fruit,
But maybe healing and support
From that space fit to him.
I said, he's lucky, that's still true,
But that's not all to say.
He laid his footing deep and strong,
Then built his shelter well.
He offered her the grandest dream
That's hers to live at last.
