Wild Jamie Sets The Trap
After a short break to eat and get ready, we broke off in small groups. Val, Kristin and I took Jamie, Willy and Wild Bill back to the marker of the trap. Shannon, Kristina, Buck and Huckleberry went into the woods, back to the open patch where Tyler had been kidnapped. Trapper, Jeff, Dani, Chris and Robin remained behind to get things ready for the final night hunt.
And the word final was meant. Trapper said they'd "catch the "son of a bitch" and Tyler would be found and saved."
Our group made it to the site of the where the trap would be built. Wild Bill and Willy had two trucks loaded with tons of wood slabs, chainsaws and equipment that they could use to build their invention. Kristin, Val and I stood to the side, while Jamie helped the two men unload the trucks. We were observers and figured we could keep watch for the Goatman if he showed up.
"Me and brothers Willy and Jamie found this top notch place to put our trap," Wild Bill commented. "Right up here by a critter four-lane."
I rolled my eyes, Jamie was being classified as a 'brother' now...oh boy. Tyler would love his new friend. He had on a pair of worker's jean overalls and had a fake long press-on beard he'd found at a store and he had a straw sticking out of his mouth, plus a cowboy hat on. It was Redneck Jamie Benn.
"Oh, Jamison Randolph Benn," Kristin muttered to herself.
"It's a good funnel area, I mean primo," Wild Bill finished saying with another 'ok' sign.
I saw Jamie trying the gesture out. He was having fun and I was happy that he was having fun and that he wasn't stuck on the sadness of the realization that Tyler Seguin could be inside the stomach of a goat monster.
Willy stood to the side and addressed one of the cameramen, while he explained how they'd go about assembling the trap. "The first step into constructing this maze trap, is to put two long walls together and get them stood up. And then wind up putting two shorter walls added to each end of that. And then we can start building the maze on the inside."
They all cleared the area and Wild Bill found himself walking through a thick cluster of bur bushes. He swatted at them with a gloved hand and yowled, "Man, get off me stupid!" He made it to the truck and snatched one of the buzzsaws, which he cranked up and stomped back over to the bur plants and began to hack away at them with a staged fury. "Take cover!" he yelled.
"Careful, Bill!" Willy and Jamie flinched and looked away as the marine wildly swung the saw at the burs. Kristin, Val and I turned to look to the side, where we spotted a deer sprint away from us out of fright.
"Way to go Bill, you chased off a deer!" I laughed.
"Everytime I see them briars beating in on you, you just get tougher and meaner," Willy commented as Wild Bill put the saw down and wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, letting out a 'whew.'
"Heck I'd reckon I'd be pissed off too at that happening to me, eh?" Jamie remarked in a weird canadian southern drawl.
There was a moment of awkward silence, followed by roaring laughter and then the trio set to work on get the trap built. Jamie took off his ridiculous costume, stripping down to just his boxers, which had Dallas Star symbols on them. He put on a pair of jeans, but kept his shirt off. Kristin's jaw dropped and I slapped Val's arm and told him to go join in and help out and the Russian actually did so.
I watched as Val removed his shirt and put it in the truck. I fanned my face with my hand as he walked over and helped Jamie to sturdy the boards, while Bill and Willy set them up. Oh, the muscles I saw moving and the nice athletically toned body of the Russian forward...it was too much. Kristin shook me from my fantasy daydream and we walked over and hopped into the back of the empty truck and sat on the edge, watching them and catcalling Jamie and Val as they worked.
"Me, Wild Bill, Val and Jamie's been nailing down all of these boards on all of these walls and all we got left to do is stand 'em up and get our braces all centered out on there and we'll be ready to bring all these maze parts in for my interior walls," Willy informed the filmers around the area.
Within half an hour the base of the trap was set up and ready to go.
"Why you two no help out?" Val called out, holding one of the boards in his hands.
"Because we're ladies and that all looks like man's work...not to mention we're small peoples. But you're both doing great!" Kristin stated.
"And I like watching you work...oh, God that came out wrong and sort of creepy, sorry," I said, blushing bright red again.
Val shrugged and worked with Jamie to hold up the last part of the exterior box part of the trap. Wild Bill tested out the box's support, pulling at the back corner. "Boy you ain't getting out. You can put a stick of dynamite in there and it wouldn't come out. Lord have mercy."
The four men then proceeded to put in the maze part in the interior of the box and got it all set up, which took another thirty minutes.
"We have a box maze trap. All we got left to do is come in and hang the door and set this bait in there when the team gets here and it'll be ready for the Goatman," Willy stated to one of the camera people, before he was joined by a sweating, smiling Jamie Benn.
"Out of curiosity, what's the bait gonna be?" the smiling captain asked.
"That's up to Trapper," Willy informed him. "But I have an idea of what it'll be."
"Instead of this being Fort Knox, it's gonna be Fort Box," Wild Bill said, with another hand gesture, from the interior, still checking everything out to make sure the trap was all ready and good to go. "As in box maze."
"Hey, you know how boat docks in lake? Well, that Goatman is like boat and he going to dock in box!" Val tried, smiling innocently. There were crickets and everyone looked at him. He looked down at his feet and blushed. "Just trying fit in."
"Good one Russian kid, bro!" Wild Bill howled, grabbing Val by the shoulders and giving him a little shake.
"Yeah, good one Val!!" I yelled, clapping. "You're s' cute and funny!"
We remained by the trap, waiting for the others to arrive. Before long, the walked into view and spotted us hanging out. We all greeted one another, with Trapper remarking how incredible the trap was and all that. Val and Jamie had found their shirts once more, after the sweat had retreated off of them.
"So what now?" Kristin asked.
"Now it's time to catch that mean son of a bitch!" Jamie grunted, pounding a fist into his hand. "He won't get away with hurting my best friend. And speaking of which, if we do catch this creature in the trap, which I take it we will, can I take his head and frame it on my wall? You know for Tyler..."
"Sure, that's fine, I guess...given Tyler's dead that is," Trapper said. "Alright, so how does this thing work?" He nodded at the trap.
"Well, I got the door connected to a wire, which runs back to where the trigger mechanism is, near the bait. All the the Goatman has to do it lightly bump it or step on it or touch it and the door will come crashing down and contain him inside," Willy explained.
"Well, Willy, you say that trigger system works, but I have to see it work," Trapper chuckled.
"Ha-ha, I got a trigger all set up on it, all we need is someone to test it out," Willy stated, cracking a sly smile. He looked at Buck, the common go-to tester.
"Pick me, I'll do it!" Buck exclaimed, raising his hand to the laughter of the rest of the team. "I'm gonna do it anyway, right?"
Instead, Jamie darted inside, shouting, "No! I'll do it!!"
"Jamie, no!" Chris and Robin screamed and darted inside after him.
"Get 'er done Jamie, bro!" Wild Bill called out, doing his signature gesture.
Jamie found the trigger surprisingly quick and was soon joined by the two girls, who tried to stop him, but he insisted he do this and stayed put. He pulled it before the girls could protest anymore, not even asking if the guys were ready.
"Let 'er rip! Let 'er rip!" Wild Bill screamed.
We watched as the door came down at once, trapping Jamie, Chris and Robin in the trap. We all cheered excitedly.
"Damn that is actually some cool trap there," Kristin remarked, high-fiving Willy.
"That door came down, I mean ka-slam, ka-thwurp...the Goatman gets in there, contained brother," Wild Bill remarked, doing the hand sign again.
"Hey, are you guys gonna let me out?" Jamie questioned. "It worked and I'm not supposed to be in here...so..."
We all laughed at him.
"So, what's the bait?" Jamie asked.
Trapper turned and looked at me. I was staring up into Val's blue eyes, lost in a moment. I snapped my head to him, feeling his gaze on me and blushed bright pink. "For the bait...we were thinking...since this thing likes hockey players so much..."
I frowned and wrapped my arms tightly around the Russian. "You're not using Valeri Nichushkin as the bait! I won't allow it...why not just dress Buck up in hockey gear and stick him in a cage like you did for the Cherokee Devil episode!"
"Not gonna happen," Buck said.
"Why not?" I questioned.
"Because one, I'm not a real hockey player and it probably knows that and two, didn't you say it attacked Val already?" Buck stated.
I sighed. He had a point. Val and Jamie were the only ones who could draw the creature to the trap. I thought about possibly going and being with Val, but I know the Russian forward had to go alone for everything to work out. I finally dropped my hands and looked at him. "Ты в порядке с этим? Будучи приманкой для монстра? (Are you okay with this? Being bait for the monster?)"
"Да. Я должен сделать это для Тайлера. (Yes. I must do it for Tyler.)" Val replied, nodding his head. He turned and faced the leader of the AIMS team. "I do this for Tyler."
Trapper nodded. "We'll make sure, like we had done with Buck, make sure you are safe. There are three options we have. One, you can go in there and chill, two, we can put someone in the bushes camouflaged or three, you can be put in a protective cage. I'll leave it up to you."
Val cocked his head to the side. I tried my best to translate for him, using my phone. He eventually understood and chose the second plan. I felt much better with that, because I volunteered at once to be the one to be camouflaged and hidden in the bush. I was given a gun and helped with my costume and facepaint and then set in my spot. There was a hole in the box, for me to shoot through and hit the monster if he dared to hurt Val.
Val stood in the spot at the far back of the box and looked around awkwardly. I could see he was nervous. And I didn't blame him. I'd never fired a gun before, but I'd certainly do it to save the Russian!
With Val and I in our spots, the others gathered together and we could hear Trapper giving everyone the pep talk, before they walked off and then everything fell deathly silent. The sun vanished and day turned to night.
The hunt was on!
It was time to find Tyler, save him and get a mythological monster.
