Night 2: Tracking Down the Party Monster
Evelyna's POV
As the day quickly faded into night, Tyler, Val, Kristin, Delia, Jenna, Chris, Robin, Shannon, Kristina, the AIMS crew and I all exited the house. Layna and Dani were remaining behind in the house with Gudas. And I didn't exactly want to tear them away. Especially Layna. We made it to the side of the house and down to the tree line.
There, we paused. The AIMS crew, Buck, Huckleberry, Jeff and Trapper all had rifles with them. Tyler, who was wearing his green Dallas Stars home jersey and jeans for some reason (even though it was summer in Texas and it was still hotter than holy hell at night), took Jeff's from him, so that the team's researcher could get his thermocam ready to go. Trapper turned to all of us.
"Pep talk time!" I exclaimed.
Val, who had on a loose fitting long-sleeved dress shirt and jeans, looked down at me. He had rolled the sleeves up to his elbows. Apparently these hockey players didn't know temperature differences or care about being hot. I didn't care much, because Val looked cuter than...well...cute. If that makes any sense. He just looked so cute and sexy in the white shirt. "Pep talk? I thought that only for sports?" He cocked his head to the side.
"It can also be for a mission or a hunt," I replied. "You're s' cute."
"I know, you say so many time."
"Because you are!" I cooed, nuzzling against his arm.
Trapper ignored the two of us and launched into his speech. "Alright, we're going after the Dallas Texas Goatman, this Party Monster is dangerous. He's not afraid of humans, seems to have a bit of mind control and he has the ability to speak."
"Not to mention kidnap and tie up a six-foot hockey player!" Tyler remarked, raising the gun up in his hands.
"So it knows how to use its hands too!" Trapper added on, nodding his head at Tyler.
"That I don't believe," Buck stated.
"Me neither," Kristin remarked, rolling her eyes and folding her arms across her chest. "I still think this is more of a practical joke played on Tyler by some weird fans...probably from Anaheim or Boston..."
Trapper faced him and said, "Now over the years, Buck and Kristin, we've learned that there's always a little bit of truth in every little folklore legend."
"Oh yeah, it started somewhere," Huckleberry commented.
"Well, we're here tonight and going to find out just what is true and what is not true. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with Tyler's story and his facts. Maybe its all lies or maybe it is all real. Whatever the case we don't know until we find out for ourselves."
"Yeah!" everyone shouted.
"Y'all ready to go after this son of a bitch?" Trapper asked.
"Hells yeah!" Tyler and Chris exclaimed.
"Let's go get this party pooper!" Huckleberry exclaimed, clicking his gun into the ready mode.
Tyler clicked Jeff's gun and Buck and Trapper then cocked their own rifles. Jeff turned his thermocam on and we all ventured into the woods, entering the path we'd been down the previous night. It was mostly silent, except for a few crickets.
"We're starting this night investigation right here on Kristin's property not far from where the hockey player for the Dallas Stars was found," Trapper said into a camera as they continued deeper into the woods.
"I didn't know Texas had this much brush," Buck commented. "I was thinking more flat and less grassy."
"If this folklore is true, that this Dallas Goatman can read our thoughts, control our minds and speak to us, than this is beyond a doubt the most dangerous bigfoot that this team has ever encountered."
I noticed Tyler gripping the gun tightly and he looked nervous and tense. I wasn't so sure it was a good idea to have him come and I could see that maybe he was re-thinking coming as well. But suddenly the nervousness vanished and he fought through his momentary panic. He padded forward and joined the leader of the AIMS team.
"Tyler?" Trapper questioned.
Tyler gulped and gripped the gun in his hand, which were beginning to sweat. The poor guy was absolutely terrified, but he wasn't about to give in or call it. He was braving the elements and I had to give him props for doing so. If only he wasn't so 'Tyler Seguin'-ish. "I figure I should show you...uh...where I was tied up to the tree," he whispered.
Trapper halted and everyone followed suit. "Yes, that would be a good idea. We might be able find some prints or some concrete evidence. Yes, show us, Tyler."
Tyler dipped his head and took command, leading them back down the open pathway and past the open patch of brush, where Val had been attacked. There were a ton of broken branches which were pointed out by Buck. Jeff kept the thermocam running and kept it pointed in every which way, looking for any signs of heat or movement.
The Dallas Star halted at the tree and he suddenly fell forward into the trunk, dropping the gun. I rushed forward, pulling my Russian love behind me. Tyler dropped his head and looked as though he were out of breath or something. I reached out and put a hand on his shoulder. He jerked backward and spun to me.
"Tyler, are you--?" I began to ask.
"H-He's near!" Tyler stammered. "He-He-He's playing with my m-mind!"
"The Goatman?" Trapper questioned.
Tyler nodded. Val looked at me and whispered, "Как вы думаете, монстр может понять русски? (Do you think the monster can understand Russian?)"
I shrugged. I know he'd said something about a monster and Russian, so I took a stab and replied, "Нет я так не думаю. (No, I don't think so.)"
I saw Val spin and look toward the woods to the side. He howled out, "Эй монстр оставить Тайлера в покое! Мне нужно его на льду! Пусть будет! (Hey monster leave Tyler alone! I need him on the ice! Let him be!)"
"Что ты делаешь? (What are you doing?)" I questioned.
Buck, Trapper and Huckleberry were looking at us strangely. Jeff was busy scanning with his thermocam, which Kristin was interested in.
"Russian," I clarified. "He's a Russian."
Suddenly a random gust of wind blew at us and we all stiffened up. Tyler snatched the gun back up and pointed it at the wind.
"Кто здесь? (Who's there?)" Val and I demanded in Russian and then clarified in English with, "Who there?"
The breeze died down and the woods fell deathly silent all around. It was really creepy.
Suddenly we heard Trapper cuss and then saw him pointing down at the ground at the base of the tree. "Look at this," he said as he brushed away some of the leaves and revealed a massive hoof-shaped print in the ground.
"That ain't no goat or sheep...too big to be so," Buck remarked.
Trapper spun to one of the cameramen and stated, "We were going through the woods and came upon the tree where Tyler had been tethered to by the Goatman and we found one of his prints! I know now that there is evil in these woods."
Jeff focused the thermocam past the tree and scanned the woods again, but nothing came up still. "Hey Trapper, maybe we should continue on? See what else we can find...maybe a den or something?"
Tyler nodded. "Yeah, I'm feeling sort of uncomfortable being around here."
"Of course you feel that way," Jenna spoke. "You were restrained to a tree with ropes by a scary bigfoot-goat creature! Who wouldn't be uncomfortable about that? You poor baby, you." She pouted her lip at Tyler.
Shannon looked at her sister, Kristina and shrugged. "Could just be a predator?"
"Like a Nashville Predator?" Kristina questioned.
Shannon laughed.
Robin leaned over and whispered, "Good one."
There was a moment of silence that fell over the group as they trekked on.
Suddenly there was a loud baa-like roar that came from the trees ahead. The AIMS team all jumped forward, pointing their guns in the direction. They all exclaimed, "Whoa! What was that? What was that?" Tyler followed suit. Jeff had the thermocam up and had it pointed in the direction of the sound. He gasped.
"Anything on the thermo?" Trapper asked.
"I see him! I see him! He's up ahead, moving through the trees!" Jeff exclaimed.
I hugged Val close to me and saw Jenna and Delia close to Tyler, flanking him. They had their fists up, ready to fight if anything attacked them or went after the Dallas Star. Shannon, Robin and Kristina held the right side, while Chris and Kristin had the left with Val and I.
The noise came again, this time from the left side, close to where Tyler was. It was going to attack us and chance getting Tyler, I could feel it and it wasn't scared to either. It was bad. It was really bad.
And that's when Tyler broke away from the group and darted off into the woods.
"Tyler, no!" Jenna screamed.
"TYLER!! Tyler, come back!" we all screamed for him and took off running after him.
He vanished from sight into the thick brush but we kept on his path as best as we could, hoping that his headstrong moment hadn't taken him right into the monster's trap. But then again, maybe it wasn't him making the call at all. The monster had to have control of his mind. And that, I feared was what had happened and was true.
"Tyler!" everyone called as we pressed on. "Tyler?!"
"Where'd he go?" Trapper questioned.
We eventually skidded to a halt, seeing the Dallas Star standing in a bright ray of moonlight in an open area in the middle of a circle of trees. He was just standing there, staring ahead of him. The gun was dangling at his side. The way the moonlight hit him, it was almost like the sky were casting a spotlight on him and it was really creepy.
"Tyler, what are you doing?" Buck asked.
"Come on back here son," Huckleberry added on, calmly.
Tyler gradually rotated around and he looked at us. Well it was more like he was looking through us. Then he began to walk back toward us at a slow and steady pace. Something wasn't right.
I was about to follow through with my gut instinct and rush forward (somehow with Val or leaving him) to get to Tyler, when a flash of silvery white fur leapt from the left side of the trees and grabbed Tyler with one swift arm scoop. The creature paused in the moonlight, holding onto Tyler. It's massive furry human arm wrapped tightly around the forward's arms.
It looked at us and I felt my blood run cold. It's two beady red eyes glowed in the light and we could see the horns...the hooved feet...the goat-human look it had. It was real. Tyler had been telling the truth and he was in a heap of trouble. But no one could move. Not even the professional hunters.
