Chapter 7: Dreams or Nightmares?

Hiccup

After the Chariot ride, we got the rest of the day to chill before training. I was on the roof again and I was still bothered about the dream I had a couple nights ago. I heard footsteps behind me and I turned around to see Jack.

He had his hands in his pockets as he walked over to me. He took one hand from his pocket and placed it on the railings. I sat down with my head on my knees.

"Hiccup, are the games bothering you?" he asked.

I lifted my head and looked at him. I've always looked up to Jack like an older brother. He and the others would always take care of me. But, that's just it. I'm the weak link in the chain. Once inside the games, it's a bloodbath and it's everyone for themselves. I'm probably going to die first, falling to my doom like inside my dream.

Jack came over and put a hand on my shoulder.

"I know for a fact that you aren't weak, Hiccup. Punzie, Merida and I will always have your back. So, don't worry." he encouraged.

He went back inside the building and I followed him. We saw everyone eating at the table, including Sandy. Toothiana kept talking to Sandy and our mentors about the chariot and I kept picking at the food in front of me. After a while, I just stood up and I went to my room.

Merida

Hiccup just left the table. Something must be eating at him. I wonder if it's that dream he had a couple days ago. He did seem frighten about it.

After dinner, I went to Hiccup's room to talk to him. I found him curled up in his bed, asleep. His shaggy brown hair was almost covering his eyes. His expression turned grim.

I hope he isn't having another nightmare.

Hiccup

I was in the arena. The cornocorpia was in the middle. Merida was about three people away from me and she was targeting the bow and arrows.

Rapunzel (who was about six people away from me) tried her best to look as brave as Merida did but, I could could tell that she was fearing for her life.

Jack, who was right next to me, was signing me to run as soon as the timer went off.

The timer only had ten seconds left.

Nine...

Eight...

Seven...

Six...

Five...

Four...

Three...

Two...

One...

The timer went off and the tributes from Districts 1 and 2 went for the bloodbath. I ran as fast as I could but, the tribute that I recognized to be Fishlegs, tackled me and brought a knife to my neck. My life is over. I knew that I would die first.

I woke up in a cold sweat. Merida was clutching my a hand and she held a worried expression on her freckled face.

I breathed hard. That was probably the worst nightmare yet.

"Are ye alright, Hiccup?" she asked.

I wiped the sweat of my face and answered, "I'm fine, Merida. You should go to sleep."

"I was asleep but, I heard ye screaming so, I came here to see if ye were alright."

I touched her freckled face as she blushed. It was kinda obvious that I have a crush on her but, I'm not sure if she'd like a geek like me.

"I'm fine, Merida. Really!" I exclaimed.

"I'm going to stay here, ok?" she asked.

"Okay," I answered.

I laid back on the bed an Merida climbed in. She snuggled onto my chest and she fell asleep. Her curly red hair was everywhere. I put my arm around her waist and pulled her closer.

This was the first night since The Reaping, that I haven't had a nightmare.
