You walked down the streets to Magnolia with your exceed partner, Layla, towards the greatest guild in the world: Fairy Tail. You smiled as you walked towards the doors, having a good feeling about coming here. You turned and looked at Layla. "You ready, Layla?"

The purple exceed nodded. "Yup!"

Taking one last deep breath, you reached over and opened the doors, and found that right away you got hit with a table. You swayed on your feet, slightly dizzy from the hit as Layla laughed at you. She can be mean like that sometimes.

Slightly angry now, you furrowed your eyebrows and searched in the crowd to see who could have done that. Spotting a pink-haired guy fighting a black-haired guy(with only his underwear on, I might add) and seeing that he had a table in his hands, you decided to assume that he was the one who threw the table at you. You quickly rushed over and joined the fight, and neither of the guys questioned it, apparently. You quickly discovered that the pink-haired guy's magic was fire and the black-haired guy's was ice, and with yours as water, you decided to join the black-haired guy's side and try to defeat the fire wizard.

Until you found out that he was a Dragon Slayer, like yourself. You're a water dragon slayer, and had searched far and wide for another Dragon Slayer. You had heard of the ones in Fairy Tail and Sabertooth, and decided to go to Fairy Tail because it sounded a lot more fun. So, when the battle began to cease, you introduced yourself to him.

"Hey, sorry 'bout that," You awkwardly scratched the back of your head. "I didn't realize that I was fighting another Dragon Slayer."

"What?" The pink-haired guy smiled brightly. "Really? Awesome! You'll fit right in! That is, if you're here to join."

"Yeah." You smiled just as brightly and held out your hand to shake. "My name's (Y/N), and I'm a Water Dragon Slayer."

"Natsu," He shook your hand. "And I'm a Fire Dragon Slayer."

"And I'm Gray," The black-haired guy held out his hand to shake yours. "I'm an ice-mage."

"Nice to meet you, Gray," You smiled. "And that would explain why you're in your underwear."

Gray looked down. "Crap! Not again!" And he went off to find his clothes.

After quickly joining the Fairy Tail guild, you immediately made friends with Juvia and formed a team with her. You two were very similar, especially with your magic types: She's a water mage, and you're a water dragon slayer. You seemed to make friends with Gray as well after you and Natsu got into fights. But then again, like him and Gray, you're water and he's fire. You guys just don't mix.

But, you also found out quickly of Juvia's raging crush for Gray. He obviously tried to avoid it, seeming not to like her clingy nature, but you were never sure if he actually returned her feelings. Unfortunately, you discovered that you had a crush on him as well. And that was a problem, because you didn't want to get on Juvia's bad side or lose her as a friend just because you both have a crush on the same guy.

So, instead of pursuing your feelings, you decided to push them down into a deep place in your heart, never to be released. You were still friends with both Gray and Juvia, and you didn't want to ruin that. So you went on missions, bought a house, and continued to live life without pursuing your real feelings. It seemed easier that way.

You walked to the guild, with Layla one day.  It was a bright and beautiful day, and you were in a great mood. Humming along as you walked, you entered the guild to find that, once again, everyone was fighting. You smirked and jumped into the crowd, immediately finding Natsu and Gray and began to fight them until Erza came and yelled at everyone to stop.

Erza's scary.

It was later that day when you were sitting with Lucy and Levy, talking about stuff with Layla talking to Lily(it was obvious she had a crush on him), when Juvia came up to you with a job in hand. "(Y/N)-chan, Juvia and Gray-sama were going to go on a job. Would you like to come with?"

You smirked slightly, and shook your head 'no'. You pretended to instead try to get Juvia and Gray together which seemed to hide your own feelings. Besides, Juvia and Gray knew each other for longer, so you thought that it would be rude to try and take Gray away from your best friend. "Nah, Juvia. You and Gray go on this mission. That way, maybe you both can finally get together!"

Juvia blushed, but smiled. "Alright, (Y/N)-chan. Juvia will see you later!" She waved as she went towards the doors where Gray was.

Not long after, Erza invited you to go on a job with Team Natsu, to which you decided that you wanted to go on it. Unfortunately, you quickly discovered that you and Natsu bickered a lot more like him and Gray more than you thought, when while waiting for Erza to arrive at the train station with Lucy, Happy, Layla, Wendy, and Charles, you two started a glare and name-calling war.

"Hot head!"

"Water freak!"

"Fire bastard!"

"Boiled brains!"

"Guys, Erza's coming." Happy warned with a smirk.

You and Natsu put your arms around each other. "Hello, Erza!" You both turned around to see her walking up with her mountain of bagage. "We're being best friends as usual!"

"Aye!" Natsu agreed.

"Well, that's good." Erza smiled. "It's great to see that you're getting along."

"Aye..." You both trailed off.

The ride on the train was horrible. You eventually asked Erza to knock you out, which she did without any complaint. Thankfully, when you woke up again, you had arrived at the destination and were off the train. You started to weep tears of joy that became tears of sadness after Layla decided to mention that you still had the ride back on the train. "Can't you just fly me back?" You asked her.

"No way!" She grinned. "It's funny to watch you curl up in agony!"

More tears began to fall. "You're so mean..."

"Aye!"

You and the others walked to the job requester's house, where he told you about a savage beast in the forest that was causing problems. You guys went there and beat it quickly, got the reward(which was 400,000 jewels), split it up between you all, and hopped back on the train, where you asked Erza to knock you out again so that you wouldn't have to face the agony of motion sickness.

When you woke up again, the ride on the train was over and you were revived quickly. You cried in joy, and quickly started to run back to the guild. Maybe Juvia and Gray will be back from their mission, You thought. I wonder how it went. I'll have to ask.

You arrived at the guild, and stopped in confusion when you heard nothing coming from inside of the building. It was actually quiet for once, and it confused you, because the guild hall is never quiet. People laugh and drink and talk and yell loudly, and there is a fight at least once a day. It sounded as though it had been abandoned.

You quickly ran up to the doors and opened them, seeing everyone's blank looks. You frowned, unsure of what could have made everyone look so gloomy. Looking around and walking inside, you asked, "What's going on? Why is it so quiet?" The rest of the team entered the guild, each of them as equally confused. No one answered you, but instead looked away. Something bad had happened, that you knew.

"Guys..." You looked up to see Gray walk towards you. Fear began to escalate in you and your eyes widened when you began to realize what had happened.

"Gray, please say that..." You trailed off, a burning in the back of your throat that would be the start of tears stopping you from continuing.

He looked down, a blank look on his face as well. "Yeah."

A tear rolled down your cheek. "No..." You whispered, and quickly turned and ran out of the guild, not stopping until you had gotten out of Magnolia and to a place of comfort: a lake in the forest. Water would make you more comfortable, but it did nothing to ease away your sorrows at the loss of your friend. "She can't be dead, Juvia is too strong for that..." You whispered. "She can't be..."

"(Y/N)." You turned around to see Gray standing a few feet behind you. You both looked at each other for a moment, before Gray looked down at the ground, his bangs hiding his face.

"G-Gray, you have to tell me that it's not true." You told him, standing up and walking forward to place your hands on his shoulders. He didn't look up at you. "Gray, please! PLEASE!"

Gray looked up and into your eyes. You spotted a tear rolling down his cheek. "Juvia is dead."

Your tears fell at a faster rate. "N-no..."

"It's my fault." Gray continued, looking away from you again.

"No, it isn't," You murmured. "It's mine."

"It's not your fault, (Y/N), it's anything but your fault." Gray argued.

"No, it is," You shook your head. "If I had gone with, then none of this would have happened. She would still be alive. But it's all because I didn't go that my best friend is dead!" You fell forward and Gray wrapped his arms around you, holding you close as you cried into his chest. He brought you both to the ground, where you refused to let go.

"(Y/N)," Gray spoke after a moment. You tried to stop your wailing in order to hear him, but sobs still wracked your body and made you shake. "Juvia told me that she loved me, and to tell you that she loved you too. I'm sure not in that way." You couldn't even manage a small chuckle at Gray's attempt of a joke. "But she also said that you love me too, in the same way she did."

Your sobs finally settled at the news, and you hugged him tighter while nodding. How did she know? You thought, before answering. "Yes, I-I do."

"I did love Juvia the same way she loved me," Gray hugged you closer. "And with her death, I feel like a piece of me has disappeared. I don't feel quite the same with you, (Y/N)."

You nodded in understanding, tears slipping out again. "I understand."

There was silence for a moment. "But maybe in time, I'll be able to feel the same way with you like I did with Juvia."

Your eyes widened and you sat up a bit. "Y-you-?"

"I'm not ready to start yet, though."

You smiled, and nodded, returning to your spot before. Loving the same person as another when they already love them in return is hard. Gray felt lost without Juvia, you understood, but maybe in time you could teach him to love another like he had loved her again.
