Let's talk about text adventures

For those of you who don't know, a text adventure is sort of like an RPG, but in words. You navigate different rooms, and the game describes them for you. You type in what you are doing, and then your character does that. Here is an example:

(The game text will be in bold while the player's typing will be in the default font.)

You wake up in a room with purple walls and a green floor, with doors on the east, west, and north sides.

Search room

There is a fountain in the middle of the room. It's dried up.

Move west

You go into the western door. It turns out to be a closet.

Search room

There is a broom, and a roll of toilet paper.

Take broom

You take the broom.

Take toilet paper

You take the toilet paper.

This is a text adventure. Get it now? It's basically what all games were until someone found a way to make games with a visual display. But my brother (being a nerd, he takes computer programming in school) decided to make his own text adventure. He completely abandoned his other project, an RPG where your character is a lemon. A really cute lemon. I'll try to find a picture.

Okay, so I couldn't find the right pic, but whatever. I dunno why I wrote this chapter, but hopefully you learned something today.

Bye!
