Chapter Three: Betrayal Part One (Percy)

My brother was nice at first, but then he started to grow distant. He had a thoughtful and troubled look most of the time, and spent a lot of time with Jason.

I started to see my friends things in my bed. I would return them to their owners, but I would always remember the slightly guilty and apologetic look that he had whenever he looked at me.

Sometimes I wouldn't make it to my cabin in time and someone would find their things in my bed. Those people turned on me and didn't like my anymore.

It bothered me a lot. I mean, what kind of friend would frame me for stuff? But I kept up my mask to make myself look normal. The thing is, I've never been normal. Not since I was five, back before I knew I was a demigod, Gabe...

So I just went along with my day, returning things when I found them in my cabin, and training the young campers.

Ted finally got claimed during dinner.

The gods had come down for the award ceremony for the seven, Nico, Thalia, and Reyna.

They appeared in thrones in the middle of the dining pavilion. The parents were walking over to their kids and talking about how proud they were.

Poseidon walked up to me and smiled. He opened his mouth to talk.

"Percy," he said. "I am so prou-" he was cut off by me.

I had punched him straight in the face. Poseidon stumbled and fell backwards, his face bleeding. Everyone stared at me.

"You had another kid," I hissed at him. "Don't you know how hard it is for us kids of the Big Three? Now he is destined to a life of fighting tough monsters and probably dying a very painful death. Why?"

Poseidon opened his mouth to talk, then closed it like a fish. I put my hand out. He grabbed it and I pulled him up. Then I hugged him.

"Thank you," I whispered. "I always wanted a sibling."

Then I took a look at his face and my eyes widened. "I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed. My hand flew to my mouth. I didn't want to be like Gabe. "Are you going to be okay?"

Poseidon nodded. I turned to Apollo.

Apollo nodded and quickly healed it. I walked away and sat at the table that no one was sitting at, as faraway from everyone as possible. I put my head down. I kept whispering and mouthing the words "I'm so sorry" quietly into my arms.

Everyone started talking again, but I just kept saying that over and over.

"Now, the seven, Nico, Calypso, Thalia, Will, and Reyna, please step forward," Zeus said. I walked forwards, along with the rest of them.

"Jason Grace," Zeus boomed. "We offer you partial immortality. Do you accept?"

"Yes," Jason said.

"Reyna, we offer you the same. Do you accept?" Zeus asked.

"Yes," she answered.

"How about you, Leo and Calypso?" He asked.

They both accepted.

Then he everyone looked at me.

"Will you become a god, Percy?" Asked Zeus. The gods looked hopeful.

I thought for a second.

I don't want to see my friends and my mom die while I live. I wouldn't be able to stand that. And after what I did to my dad earlier...

"No thanks," I said, kind of sadly. The gods looked disappointed.

"Well, you can have something else of your choice," Zeus said.

"How about..." I thought about it. "How about you guys make us all some monster proof phones or something? You know, in case we're in trouble and we don't have any drachmas for Iris messages?"

"Granted." Zeus turned to Hephaestus. "You got it?" Hephaestus nodded. We shielded our eyes as he flashed away.

I stepped back and the gods continued.

Some of my friends (Hazel, Will, and Frank) got full immortality and became gods. Nico didn't accept, and I knew why. Anyone who had been to Tartarus would not want to live with the memory.

Or that's what I thought.

"Do you, Annabeth Chase, accept godhood?" Zeus asked. Most of the gods looked doubtful, thinking that she would say no for me.

"Sure," she said. No one talked for a while. Or maybe I just didn't hear them because I was in shock. I felt a hand in my shoulder and looked over to see Nico. He was looking at me with sad eyes. I smiled at him sadly. I realized that Will and his sister Hazel had chosen immortality too, so he felt the way I did- betrayed.

"I'm sorry, Percy," Annabeth said. "But, after what you did down there, well, I don't think I can live with someone who I'm scared of." Then she turned back towards the gods and they made her immortal.

Hephaestus came back a few seconds later with a huge bucket. It was filled to the top with phones. He passed them out to everybody.

"They're also water and fire proof," he announced as he passed one to me.

"Thanks," I said.

"Meeting adjourned," Zeus said. I looked away as all the gods flashed out. As soon as it was finished, I went back to my cabin.

And I saw Nico's sword.
