Chapter Four: Talking Part One (Percy)

I walked out of my room and cabin and straight through the trees to Nico's cabin.

I knew that someone was framing me, but no one was going to make Nico go against me, he was like my little brother or something. He's the only one who actually understands how I feel, I can't loose him, not now.

I got to his cabin and knocked on the door once. I accidentally knocked it down. I winced. Nico was staring at me.

"Sorry about that," I said.

"Its okay," he said. "Actually, have you seen my sword?"

"Yeah," I said. I brought up my hand that was holding onto it so tight, that my fingers were completely white. "Someone's been framing me for stealing things. Here." Nico took it, and I let go.

"Bye," I said.

"Bye," he replied. As I left, I fit the door back into the frame and made hinges from water. I hoped that it would stay.

When I got back to my cabin, I just broke down. I started silently crying into my hands, rocking curled up in a ball on my bed.

Then I heard someone knock on the door. I wiped away the tears, opened it, and saw that it was Ted. He took a look at me and burst into tears. He ran in.

I closed the door behind him.

"I'm so sorry," he said. "I have been framing you for J-Jason, but I won't do it ever again!"

"For Jason?" I asked.

"Yes," Ted said. "He was jealous of you. He threatened me and said that if I didn't do it then he would k-kill me!"

I was suddenly filled with rage.

"I'll talk to him tomorrow, okay?" I said. He nodded. "No one threatens my family and gets away with it. But for now, just stay in here and make sure the door is locked. If he finds a way in, just scream my name as loud as you can, and I'll try my best to come."

He smiled through his tears and hugged me. I hugged him back. I patted his back and said "Don't worry, it'll be okay, it'll all be okay."

Then someone else knocked on the door. I told Ted to go to bed and opened the door. Nico was standing there.

"I want to talk to someone who understands," he said. "Can we talk?"

"Sure," I said, turning to Ted. "Remember what I said." He nodded. "Bye."

Then I walked out and locked the door. Nico and I walked to the beach. We sat down.

We didn't talk for a while. Then he broke the silence.

"I'm glad that there is someone who knows how I feel," he said. I shrugged.

"Sort of," I said. "I just don't want to think that anyone has been through what I've been through." Nico nodded.

"When she talked about what you did in... that pit," Nico said, "what did she mean?" We both shuddered on the word pit.

"Well," I began, "Misery was attacking us with poison. I got mad and used the water in it to send it back towards her. Annabeth got scared because I could do that."

"Well, that is kind of scary," he said.

"Says the guy who can summon skeletons," I replied. Nico blushed.

"I know," Nico said, "but couldn't you control people using the water in their bodies?"

"Maybe," I replied. "But couldn't you control people using the bones in their bodies?"

"Maybe," he said, looking thoughtful. Then at the same time, we high fived. I had used the water in his hand and he had used the bones in my arm.

"It worked!" We said at the same time, smiling.

We didn't talk for a while more.

Then Nico talked. "I think that your trip through the pit might have been harder than mine," he said.

"Probably not," I said. "You saw it how it actually looked."

His eyes widened. "Did you?"

"Well I was about to die. Then I never stopped seeing it that way." We both shuddered.

"I miss eating food," Nico said sadly.

"Me too," I replied.

Once again, we were silent for a while.

Then I talked. "Nico," I said. He looked at me. "You know what it's like to be betrayed. Can we promise each other that we will never betray each other?"

"Yes," he replied. "I swear on the River Styx that I will never betray Percy." Thunder rumbled.

"I swear on the River Styx that I will never betray Nico," I said. It thundered some more. Then we hugged.

We silently cried into each other's shoulders for a few minutes.

A few minutes later we wiped away the tears.

"I used to like you," Nico said. "I've told you that before. But when I told you that you weren't my type- that was a total lie. And now that Will betrayed me. . ."

I looked at Nico. Then I tackled him with a hug. He looked startled, but he hugged me back.

The next thing I knew, I was kissing him.
